  1. Sean - always happy for an inpromptu Curry Club meet in places further afield. Did you have a date in mind? The next local meet is on 26 November at Nandoori Tights.
  2. It depends whether you gave a verbal warning. I think if you shout "Armed Grumpy Old Man!" a nano-second before letting rip then you can blast away with impunity.
  3. Blackheath is a good one.
  4. It must be said that there are now a number of Staffordshire Gingers rootling round Peckham Rye.
  5. Simply swapping a Personal Message with an ED Chap on the Forum is a surefire way of getting in-pig.
  6. Blimey VSG, that is a cautionary tale and there is no mistakin'. You could turn the children over the Salvation Army at Denmark Hill. They would then be looked after (albeit on an austere manner) and you could go back to the ways of a careerist social butterfly. Everybody will be happy.
  7. I have always been impressed by the fertility and fecundity of the Mothers of ED and their willingness to procreate at a seemingly Leporidinous rate. Good for you ladies, keep keeping it up for Blighty. They spend much of their time wandering between The Plough's Gin and Tonka Toy mornings and JoJoBeBeWannadaMoney with the beloved off-spring tucked into their 3x3 super-buggies. The fug of fumes sometimes to be seen above Lordship Lane is not car fumes but in reality is a heady cocktail vapour of Calpol and Sherry. Having said that there are many career-Ladies in ED who have not thus far not been blessed. They are seldom seen as they gather in the Dulwich Constitutional Club to play snooker and talk about men they have known and the good old days.
  8. I am going to try the walk from LB to Holborn via the South Bank, Wobbly Bridge and St Pauls. If that fails then the walk from Waterloo isnt too bad. Is there a train from LB to Blackfriars or City Thameslink? Still, when the cross river tram is built I will be able to get a tram from Peckham to Holborn in one go! Ho Ho.
  9. Buses are so medieval. Besides, I dont pay for my travelcard ;-) Peckham Rye station is a hole and the chances of bumping into anybody that one would want to bump into are slim and the chances of bumping into somebody and getting stabbed are significant. I may try the walk from LB to Holborn.
  10. What to do, what to do? I have been using ED station for nearly 20 years. I regularly meet chums on the journey to London Bridge and back. I know each tree, each rat that scurries around the path and have counted every incompetently applied layer of paint. Now our office is movng to Holborn. I have a choice I can either continue to get he ED to LB train and enjoy the occasional pleasures of Moos, MrBen, Strawbs, Jaws, LadyGooner, Steph, Azul et al. I then have to get from LB to Holborn. I refuse to use the Northern and Central lines and I am not getting on a bus. So, I can get the train one short stop to Waterloo and walk. or I can walk to Peckham Rye and get a direct train to Blackfriars (and eventually City Thameslink I believe) and walk from there. Its about the same walking time and does not require a change. BUT - get a train from Peckham Rye? Its a hideous station surrounded by giant edible snails and I cant get over a profound sense of sadness at leaving ED station and its attractions. What to do?
  11. In my youth I too would have intervened; but that was 20 years ago in a small town in the Midlands. Nowadays, in London, I would call the Police. Unless it was a friend, direct intervention is just too risky.
  12. Two cats stuck up a drain-pipe?
  13. I too am confused. Are you complaining about a group of noisy girls or was somebody getting bullied and injured? If the latter, then why didnt you call the Police? If the former, well, these are London Teenagers, a bit of end-of-school screeching is fairly low on the richter scale of inner city problems.
  14. I just wish he would get a haircut. They only cost a fiver up west.
  15. "I work as a demolitions expert" - How cool is that! Wish I could drop that into a party conversation. *Doffs cap to the BigBad*
  16. Michael Palaeologus = Venerable words from the God-like one. Bow down and tremble. From Wikipedia: Michael Palaeologus (died 1156) was an early member of the great family of the Palaeologi, which later ruled the Byzantine Empire. He was a general of the emperor Manuel I Comnenus (1143?1180). The general was known as a womanizer and a drunkard; he was rumored to have over fifty mistresses. Thatsmaboy!
  17. I like Brownies but couldnt eat a whole one. Rainbows I find are tender but lack taste. Guides are just tough and stringy. Give me a lightly poached member of the Boys Brigade any day, with fennel.
  18. I have spoken to Jamie and he is more than happy that the two events are compatible. There is a 2nd bar for those that may wish to chat without listening to the music. The music itself will consist of live music and a DJ playing the coolest of cool tunes. All sounds good, so we can stick to plan A and go to Hoopers if that is OK.
  19. I am going to try and talk to Jamie to see what he thinks. If he feels it will be OK, then we can go ahead at Hoopers. If it is otherwise then we can re-arrange to the EDT and agree a future date for Hoopers. We have never and will never get complete agreement about where we go month by month, so as ever, it will be a compromise. Hopefully over the year, everybody will be completeky happy at some point. So far I have managed to leave a message for him on his mobile. I will let you know.
  20. What, as in: "Ooh's that anibblin' on the organic falafel?"
  21. Even to The Vale? :)) Baaaaaa!
  22. Well. as ever, we have no agreement. Not a problem, but somebody has to make a decision at some point in the near future. My concern on Hoopers is that we wont be there to listen to the folk music, we will be there to drink and socialise. How will the musicians and their audeince feel about a biggish group ignoring their performance and nattering away, in what is a small space? Perhaps we should concider their feelings in our deliberations? I am sure Jamie would love to have us there, we just need to liaise with him to ensure that there isnt a clash of incompatable events. The EDT is noisy, but is a popular pub in the centre of things. I have seen quite a few forumites in their in the past week or so. Clearly it has its charms.
  23. Got up late today. 2 croissants and half a big packet of cheesy Nachos with humus. Home made cottage pie for supper.
  24. So, how much time does 1000 or even 5000 posts equate to?
  25. I agree Kel. The last Drinks didnt have a brilliant turn out and it would be good to coax some more new shiny people along by having a more local venue.
