  1. Just bouncing this up a bit so that Wednesday Book Club chums can spot it. 13 days to go curry lovers!!
  2. An elite group of the Curry Clubs finest invaded Berlin last weekend. A jolly time has by all, much mooching about, flea markets perused, East Berlin explored (mostly like Croydon). On Friday night we dined at the Meena Kumari restaurant. Over the years I have tried a number of Berlin curry establishments and have always been disappointed. In These other restaurants food is adapted to German taste which tends to favour cream over spices. Meena Kumari was a revelation. Good spicy food with sauces made in the kitchen. A full range of German beer is available plus bottled Kingfisher (the beer, not the bird). The food is served German style. Mains course is served with rice, no vegetable side dishes, but veggie main courses are available. A fair range of starters and spicy popadoms tempt the taste buds. It is situated in Prenzlauer Berg. www.meenakumari.de
  3. Fascinating history, many thanks. Hornby to a diecast model of the Ruston Bycrus Drag Shovel.
  4. It does feel like ED has settled into a more stable existance. High rents and a flat economy discourages entrepreneurs so what we end up with are larger organisations who have the ability to invest. Bellenden on the other hands is galloping ahead. There seems to be new places opening all of the time, all of them indies. Perhaps the result of lower rents and an economic micro-surge. This caused by wealthier folk moving into the redeveloped/new properties in Peckham; in turn driven by an ED over-flow and by the soon to open Overground line.
  5. UFO, Schenker, marvellous. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Freebird
  6. One post in 3 years. Perhaps you yourself could do with a little game up-ing?
  7. When making Damson Gin or Vodka, freeze and defrost the damsons beforehand. This breaks the flesh down and helps the flavoring of the liquor. It also avoids the pain of pricking each damson.
  8. Northern Exposure, that long ago. Blimey. Anybody spotted re-runs?
  9. Well, if we are going to pay for the things, we might as well get some.
  10. Not heard from anybody since then Quids, so .....
  11. It is marvellous. Reminds me a little of Northern Exposure, a much missed series set in Alaska from about 10 years ago. Looking back Northern Exposure was before its time, it ended up being programmed late in the evening as the schedulers had no idea what it was or what to do with it. Nowadays it would be on BBC4 or similar and be going strong. Anyway, Lillyhammer - bit thumbs up.
  12. Next meeting on Wednesday 24 October at Tandoori Nights.
  13. Well, that was fun. Thanks to Hibbs, Sheila, Brum and Mick-Mac for their fine company.
  14. Can they be put in the Southwark garden waste box if they croak?
  15. You want to believe. You know you do.
  16. Are they organic?
  17. Gardens surgery is great. Recommended. Beware Dr Tran's slightly odd sense of humour.
  18. Hurrah! I'll be in Franklin's Bar from about 7.45. On to Swadesh at 8.30. Cheers M
  19. It would be good to see you Katie. 8.30 as its you Mick Mac.
  20. Well thats one! Lets play it by ear and see who else responds.
  21. Thanks Alan. Clearly people shouldnt feel obliged to come. So, perhaps there is a need to give CC a bit of a rest and a re-boot? Perhaps move the time to the first week of the month (post payday for most) and on a set day of the week. Then people will at least know that curry club will be on say, the first Wednesday of every month.
