  1. I'm personally hoping come May, Ots will be in 2nd place, 16 points behind Meds...
  2. That's a good point, GB is the man...
  3. Having thought about it more (and to answer your original question) if you are happy with the size of the existing hearth (ignoring the rear screed for now) it will be better to get a bespoke piece of stone made rather than cutting into the existing floorboards to fit an off-the-shelf piece of stone. The reason being that the hearth and floorboards will have their own support structure beneath which will have to be mucked around with in order to get the new off-the-shelf hearth in...
  4. Probably, therefore you shouldn't let that drive the aesthetic. A nice piece of stone sat next to some old concrete screed? When it was a working fireplace you wouldn't have seen the screed, therefore it wasn't an issue. It's six of one, half a dozen etc if you go with bespoke or ready made. Personally I would think about the overall desired finish and work back from that. For instance does it, or will it have a fireplace surround to it? If you had a stove would you want some space for decorative log storage to sit on the hearth. These things will impact on the size of the hearth. Personally I think it would look a lot better if finished like the above photo, all-in one, going into the fireplace, therefore it will need to be templated to suit. As for finishing flush or not, that's up to you, but the easiest would be to lay the stone on top of the screed and floor boards if required. If you wanted it flush, rather than messing with the floorboards, the screed could probably be lowered so that the stone sits flush...
  5. Will the stone hearth go into the fireplace?... http://www.firesandflues.co.uk/whitedragon/documents/image/Installations%20010.jpg
  6. Yep, maxxi posted earlier how to set one up. And I'll probably be nagging reminding everyone most Fridays...

  9. Oh the allure of a barmaid and her pork scratchings...
  10. The timing is suspicious, but maybe the Board/Wenger have been shocked into action by the fans' reaction to the Villa game...

  14. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Most generous. > > Not that it'll make any bloody difference. No wonder you were keen for your predictons to be included. I've worked out you've predicted 4 correct scores (12 pts) and 6 correct results (6 pts), giving a total score of 18pts, smashing my all time record of 16pts. 18pts would also have put you joint top of the whole national league...someone call an ambulance, I feel a seizure coming on.
  15. Correction: PD joined the online game in time, he just hadn't joined the Mini League. So that just leaves Ots as a late starter who will get points for Week 1. Updated Week 1 table...

  17. Dear Predictors. Last Friday Parkdrive posted his predictions in the Football Focus thread, not realising there was a separate online Mini League. I posted a reply in the thread explaining the changes, but he didn's see it in time before the Saturday kick-off. He is now going to join the Mini League, but of course will be playing catch up. Because he made a genuine attempt to do his predictions, I personally have no objection to working out what his score would've been for Week 1, and adding it at the end of the season. I'm happy to put this one to the vote. Only comment if you disagree, otherwise I will assume you are ok with it...

Having already won The Treble, I'm quite happy to share the love of a world cup win ;-) Joking aside, I enjoyed the Olympic spirit last year and I think a WC win for England would be in simialr vein, a once in a lifetime experience, something the whole country could share in...just as long a Utd player scores the winning goal ;-)

I was alluding to the long term scenario ;-) Despite what Jah thinks(hopes) I'm sure Spurs are already reinvesting the money that they will be getting for Bale in quality players. IMO this is something that Arsenal never really did after selling RVP, Fabregas etc. I'm holding back on my predictions until the transfer window closes, but as things stand I can see Spurs finishing above Arsenal this season. If that happened, as well as not attracting top players by not being in the CL, Arsenal then might have a problem holding onto their best players e.g. Wilshire. Add in the loss of income from the CL and future commercial deals, and you can see how quickly things can unravel. If it can happen to Liverpool it can happen to anyone. None of this is wishful thinking by the way, just how I see it...

But it's how Man > Utd and to a lesser extent Arsenal dominated much > of last 16 years until the BIG money came in . At Utd, Fergie would identify a transfer target, and after getting Board approval(according to Fergie the Glazers never once baulked at one of his targets) David Gill would then go away and conduct the business end of it. Apparently at Arsenal, Wenger gets involved in the wheelin' and dealin', right down to the size of the fee, something Fergie didn't. I think the new Moyes/Woodward axis is run along similar lines...
  22. If Arsenal fans' only hope is to wait for this 'Great Football Crash', then they may have a long wait. We're going through the world's worst financial crisis, and football has hardly blinked. I'm sure there will be a correction, but by then Arsenal may be so far behind it won't make that much difference in the new grand order. Chelsea and City are much more commercially astute then they were a few years ago, and over time will become less reliant on their cash rich benefactors. In the here and now, if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League, there will be a crash of another kind...
