Of course, that does mean it will be under arguably more government control, but we can change governments. We can't change Murdoch. but that's the point, we can and I suspect we always will be able to change govt BUT BUT BUT.......this is a point of principle NOT a point of pragamtism*. That point of principle being a free press. *please note I said principle not idealism
  8. 'much better now' is confidential patient information in the same way that 'she's dead' would have been

  10. I phone a hospital and say "I have those 5 million sticky plasters you ordered I'm in a van outside" - that's a crappy, unredeemable, useless prank, but only that To phone a hospital pretending to be someoene else and try and gain information on a patient, (even if you pretend to be the queen) is a whole different kettle of fish, and just shows what foooking morons the aussie are. I am sure their intention was just a prank but they must be stupid beyond belief as their actions were actualy illegal I think on that basis (ie attempting to breach private confidentiality by impersonation). The nurse - tragic but we don't know anything yet.

The question is irrelevant - The answer is because it's a minimal market less than 10% of the UK's, they couldn't be that arsed. They largely print UK stories over there anyway, especially sports etc , it's just a few more quid for little extra effort and certainly not worth contemplating potential illegal actions for stories that would by and large only be saleable in Ireland. Plus it's hhardly a full fold of UK papers is it? - the sun and maybe one more? People over here, including a fair few on the left I might add, care about a free press and are less trusting to the state that the irish have traditionally been would be another point worth raising. It's all politics from the shreakers rather than the thinkers. c'est la vie.
  15. You sure they haven't set fire to Domino's deary?

Yeah but anyone noticed how brilliant the papers in Ireland have been at exposing long term cronyism, abusive clerics etc etc?

  20. I used to love them but honestly completley indifferent to them now, my dept in Ireland did have a poker freeroll tournament with a 500 euro jackpot put up by the company though, missed that bit :)
  21. ..well I think he's provided some reasonable ones there. You don't think people come together spontaneously as individuals and do good, ethichal, fun, even political things EVER Strafer? Really? Bizzare challenge - Tollepuddle martyrs, numerous civil rights movements, acid house parties, the EDF Curry Club.....I could go on, and on, and on....
  22. I have missed all my work dos as they are on Friday's/Thursday's in Ireland and can't say I am bothered at all. I used to go out every night but now once every 2 weeks is absolutely fine for me. Sad old git me.
  23. When i was a pro, I loathed the massed ranks of vomiting esseex and kent girl and boy amatuers clogging up the West End and nicking all the taxis. Now it's just the kids. Brilliant (non-ironic) but did have some right old laughs back in the day.
  24. We don't need computers or central heating either....
  25. Though you have a point Jeremy - that's not corporate plus it 'normally' -polish builders aside, maybe - goes into the UK economy in one way or the other.....rather than enriching US shareholders who in some cases who are geeky billioniarres from San Francisco
