  1. Any of the hugely expensive highly overated trinket shops and bars - so for me it's just the bookies and the CPT (and The drum)that I've been to
  2. The recession is coming, watch the boards go up all up 'Hardship' lane - next premises to close will be that new 'market' thingy
  3. I've only been in three times and have thoroughly enjoyed each visit as the staff are normally paralytic (but friendly) and it has an intriguing 'ambience' and atmosphere - i~ll miss it
  4. *wonders back in "1-0 to the cockney boys"
  5. Can we start the classic TV that would have been ruined by going on too long thread...cos most of the decent ones on here come under that

    The Hay Festival

"Hay Festival, a gathering in the staggering beauty of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Writers, comedians and musicians that have the capacity to change our lives, to share new visions of the world, and to do that incredibly sexy thing ? to renew our sense of wonder." Got to make Pseuds corner, surely?
  7. Modern - Damon Albarn, success and good stuff with several bands 70s - Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of life, Story book, Secret lives of plants(?) pure unaldeterated genius, shame about 1980 onwards Lee 'Scratch' Perry MAAAAAAAAAAAd but great 60s - Ray Davies
  8. "aim low and miss" Jeffrey Bernard
  9. "1-0 to the cockney boys"..... *retires from thread chanting
  10. Oh great another shop full of overpriced etc - any chance of another bookies?

    .

Lordship Lane is a crappy road up near Tottenham too as I'm sure others have mentioned - just mention Dulwich and I've never had a problem, I once said the Clockhouse on Pecham Rye and the driver drove off
  12. *has vision "Come and get your Onions people of East Dulwich.... ?5.75 a pound" "oh darkling look at those lovely authyentic onions lets by a few"
  13. The old foresters had a decent pool table and was fine.....I think the Old Palmerston was a dump
  14. mmmm- I'm pretty sure that this concept won't work...on a side street so no passing trade, not enough visibility, not enough scale, not enough differentiation, I wish em well but hope they're all on cheap rents
  15. I dunno how that's happened, the prices for some cheese and some 'on the vine tomatoes' are absolutely criminal in more than one outlet on the Lane
  16. What I find interesting is the crime rate is falling and this coinicides with the prison population rising and yet the predictables, Guardian, Indie etc act as if somehow a the fact that are prisons are filling up with criminals is wrong. We have the highest prison population in europe on the face of it (and on the face of it that's oft reported) but In actual fact if you bring in the crime rate we have one of the lowest in terms of our crime rate.....I'm all for trying to rehabilitate but I'd like the criminals off the streets away from my family and property first and the the crime stas seem to suggets that's the best way of doing it.........rather than a few celebs appealing for the stabbibngs to stop, let's try 5 years of a mandatory 5 (maybe more) year sentence for carrying a knive and see if less of our kids are stabbed to death on the streets of London which now seems to happen weekly.....
  17. Bob - the roads are paid for by road tax and rates, paid by motorists, whilst some parking restrictions are needed, most are jusrt a convenient revenue scheme for the council. You're lovely outdated 'Lovely rita meter maid' view of traffic wardens bears no resemblance to the commission based no scruples idiots with targets who stalk our streets. I've have got off two tickets that were completley unjustified - if you want I can tell you the boring stories behind them but in both i had NOT broken parking laws - by fronting out their demands, appealing and saying that I'd go to court in face of threats of escalating fines...many people don't. It's blackmail.
  18. Interesting how TB, Cholerha, polio, measles, etc were all controlled and in some cases eliminated by mystic 2000 year old shamanic treatments whereas modern western scientific medecine made no impact on them........er.....hang on a minute have I got that right?
  19. In contrast to even 20 years ago, there is almost no moral dissaproval - probably a good thing but not without its consequences on behaviour Plus some rational economic reasons for doing it among those groups (who despite what someone said earlier) that are much more likely to be teenage mums (the poor and uneducated). Plus children give a great deal of meaning to your life whatever class, creed, race etc you are so if you have little aspirations or can't see opportunities to fullfill them, a child can help your sense of worth. Plus in some areas it's almost 'normal' behaviour so peer pressure
  20. Can't they make it into something useful like a bookies?
  21. I would attend but I think only Sean would talk to me
  22. JCTG - the fares didn't go up to make people use their cars - why would profit orientated private train companies want to do that????? They went up because commuters have no choice - if you add in congestion charge and parking a cars still far far more expensive. Are you mad?
  23. Incentivised traffic wardens = lots of parking fines for the council to waste on shit - absolutely nothing to do with any benefit to you or I.
  24. Think about it - Now is just about the busiest time of the year - just after Christmas break, no half terms etc, most people grinding out January...early December's another shit time too
  25. Don't worry about the return with a black cab just give the minicab ur flight number and they'll be there when you get back even if delayed......not know that standard practice Mockney?
