  1. What about all the Bookies?
  2. well said Bobby...and far better articulated than me...it's absolute madness and council sponsored theft
  3. Snorky - don't be an idealiistic idiot - cPZ of ?90 a year!!!!....is that really gonna make someone think about giving up their ?6 a gallon, ?200 road tax, ?600 a year service, ?500+ insurance, ?X000 car.....the point is we don't want the council grabbing money off us to spend on whatever madcapped scheme they have in mind, filling ED with targeted parking attendant, driving out non-local trade (see what happened to Peckham when the 'geniuses' at Southwark town hall made it clear they didn't want people with cars near it) and, as many have pointed out, just shifting the problem a few streets away. Make no mistake this whole idea is about local politicains trying to get there hands on mine and other car owners money....that's what they like, other peoples money....they can buy more paperclips or the whatever waste of monet scgheme is the political flavour of the month
  4. I once went along with a load of Class Warrites to the massive CND rally (1983?)...funniest part of the day was faux-posh chanting of "Don't bomb Hampstead"
  5. ????

    The Brits....

Goebbells famously absolutely adored his kids
  6. will there be gambling?
  7. You can't park without a ?400 permit
  8. NO....keep money away from the weasels in local government and businesses flourishing in LL..as someone else has pointed out your laughable attempts to link this moneygrab to 'green issues' helps explain why so many of us have such low opinions of politicians and a lack of engagement in the political process Still no survey either
  9. ????

    The Brits....

I only liked the FooFighters (who I normally hate) for their supremeley ironic (who said yanks don't do irony?) acceptance speech....
  10. Careful mikese - attacking a sacred cow like the PO is equivalent to mugging old ladies.....no joined up thinking on this, or any other nationalised industry for that matter, just sentimental rheoteric. Some of us remember how appaling MOST of them were....
  11. yup - the parking hitlers finally put the nail in Peckham for shopping
  12. ????

    The Brits....

....sad that a country that once punched way above its weight in global popular music and way, way, above its weight for youth culture...is left with this dire, shite as a modern representative of our musical 'elite'. *walks away shaking head listening to the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Clash...to name a few
  13. I don't think Louisa deserves that criticism on this occasion Mad. Certainly, there is a kind of ongoing sentiment among some on here that before the arrival of the East Dulwich Deli, SE22 was a dickensian rookery of Ne'er do wells...which is laughable.
  14. So a post office on every corner it is then.......... *shakes head at usual sentimental, irrational 'Public Service' guff slapped all over this thread.....
  15. Indeed - many a saturday night spent in their (the Grove) waiting for the nod for that night's M25 location....ACIEEEEEEED
  16. They may not have been your cup of tea but the Palmerston and East dulwich Tavern were both generally fine in my experience, crikey, try drinking in Camberwell in the 1980s
  17. JBarber RE Subsidies and cars Can you please factor in Road Tax, VAT on new car purchase and VAT on petrol into your equation on subsidy of car owners by non-car owners...oh....and the 'revenue' your uniformed, targeted nazis dishing out tickets to 'illegal' parkers too
  18. Interesting contrast to views on commercially successfull and largely working class clientele Bookies.....
  19. Libraries - rationliasation, yes, hospitals (increasingly questioning but far too complex than to no state subsidy but certainly would like a more commercial focus) parks - no, museum no, schools no. Police - I'd happily see local beat type monitoring run by a private agency leaving the highly paid police to get on with dealing with proper crime not issuing parking tickets and 'easy' crime, armed forces - no. There's a degree of simplification in these responses but how the sacred cowiness off state owned and run businesse should be questioned thoroughly and constatntly.... How many post offices are there in ED? Where else can I buy stamps? Open bank accounts? etc etc
  20. if a Post Office can't make money why should tax payers subsidise it? (difficult concept for politicians to get their nonces round I know).......especially in London where there's plenty of nearby alternatives. You could, maybe, just, make acse for stte support in an isoltaed community.
  21. Frog & Radiator
  22. So a working class area = rough does it?......
  23. Yes Frang, as I said in my original post.... "East Dulwich does indeed feature in a Jeeves....Peckham Rye has far more literary thoroughbredness (to mangulate english)"
