  1. not sure which thread this one should have gone in - it could have been I heard the news today I'm afraid of Americans (sorry shosh) Political Correctness But it's about Obama ultimately so, here it is: O M G ACTUAL, REAL voters saying things like: "We'll end up slaves. We'll be made slaves just like they was once slaves," or "'Look, someone will kill him. Whoever Obama picks as running mate will end up being president.' Spence's ready smile and chatty manner on the thorny issue of Obama's possible murder gave little clue as to whether he thought it would be a bad thing or not." As the article says, what is unusual about the Appalachian constituents is that they say what others won't. But if this is what honesty is, then political correctness is the only thing fighting such ignorance surely?
  2. thought my preference was in the question -Jaflong as to be worth checking out as the newbie no?
  3. was that a dig? Or was that a play on McLaren Never sure with you AfN
  4. which was it - R&B or gospel? Is there a hybrid? Glad I missed it... R&B = no Gospel = fine (even tho I'm a loooong way from religious) What time of day was it? If it was before 10pm then I would say a fine summer evening in one of the worlds big cities, that sort of thing is the least of one's worries
  5. wot - posted 4 hours ago and no comments or thanks to Andrew? Good work Andrew - although you do have a knack of catching beautiful women in less than flattering poses sometimes! I love the one of Annaj and Lady Macgabhann on the sofa
  6. Yes we have been to curry cabin. About 9 of us that night !
  7. Rosie - do come along. You can just "rock up" phrase © 1999 ;-) no worries, we'll keep a space for you we'll meet downstairs in EDt at around 7:30ish - doors upstairs at 7:45
  8. Franki - no need to apologise - the "cold light of day" is a much underrated phenomenon As for the event, LostThePlot has described it so well I can only echo what he says. I can honestly say I didn't do as badly as I feared but much worse than I am capable. I had no idea that alcohol consumed so quickly would, if the consumer runs immediately, never actually reach the stomach. My hats of to the front runners, who not only ran a mans race but actually competed to the bitter end. Limping in at # 12 or whatever it was I felt no compunction, desire or obligation to down my pint/shot combo. And feel all the better for it I have just returned from a quick visit to Val's the grocer for some essentials, and as I passed I looked down Barry Rd and thought to myself "did that really happen?" Take a bow Boab and surfbobby for organising, the (and there is no other way to describe them) ladies for organising stage 2 drinks and to everyone else for, like, "being there" maaan
  9. so now that week is here.... and a new curry house on the lane.... and lot's of new people at the forum drinks last night said they fancied a curry....
  10. bon3yard - second call in as many days about "having kids". I'm with you.... I know that Lady MacGabhann was mean as a snake to her younger sister but as the eldest in my family i can hand on heart say I was never interested in teasing/winding junior up. I just wanted to be left alone!
  11. Woke up, saw the sun and started singing this XTC - Stupidly Happy shame it's not an actual video - but ignore that and turn the volume up
  12. Hello emmah slightly confused by the "lively pub", "wind down" and "Friday night" combo There should be something out there to satisfy - where have you tried and what didn't work for you? That'll give me a clue as to what you like
  13. 20. "dancing NEXT to hanif kureishi..." maybe? I really really wish I could go but I can't
  21. Loz - it;s a good question - I think having tried the other suitable pubs in the area for the monthly forum drinks (whaddya mean you don't know about them - have a look in the Lounge - it's the first post at the top) there was an opportunity for the Vale to be relieved of the NTV tag. I think a new manager posted some good things on the forum and came across well -but we'll see how tonight goes eh? Coming?
  22. I picked up one of those trolleys for a fiver from (I think) one of the hardware shops in Peckham Twas to carry some stuff the 15 miles from the Glastonbury Gates to My Preferred Camping Spot © It never survived
