  1. * turns diplomacy switch off * (realises that's the first time he's done that since he last spoke with quids) still, I'm in good company now * tell me, moos; are you as worried by the cardboard donkey as paraded by Michael as I am? Could be worse - it used to be real *
  2. Ever since Piers pointed me in this site's direction I've been an avid vistor This review of Mass Effect (another game I'm enjoying despite it's best efforts) is hilarious Mass Effect
  3. * assumes the Lord reference was sardonic and not reverential * * wonders where the "sniffy" reference came from - I like the new arrivals since my last visit * * still, a sternly scornful woman with arms folded and a raised eyebrow is always welcome * * goes to fix some cocktails *
  4. * thinks to self "I haven't been in the quiet room since last year * * wonders how many of the "new breed" frequent the place * ..... * cautiously opens the door behind the fireplace (they won't know about that, I'll be fine) * * blimey! this place is different... and yet... comfortingly familiar. 8. I'm BOUND to say that if you are THAT close to the bus you are a danger to yourself and the bus (regardless of how commonplace it is) The fact that it's in Peckham remind me of the time the council put in self-raising bollards to stop cars using the bus lanes - look ma, no revenue! That didn't stop idiots pranging their cars as they tried to ride the coat-tails of the bus mind you... I don't think they didn't know about the bollards - I think they were chancing it
  9. which is made all the more difficult when chains/big business "own" everywhere market forces or not, it doesn't HAVE to be this way (see most other civilised drinking countries)
  10. You have a point Brendan, but I think people who exceed a limit tend to do so in percentages - eg 35 in a 30 zone is "ok" - so if they do 25 in a 20 they are still speeding but if they actually collide with someone they are likely to inflict far less damage
  11. BB put it very well - some people do get protective of their favourite joints (I'm one of them) but don't take it personally Re: Chandelier. I find myself going more often, not less. I have had mixed experiences with the staff. I'm not going to sit here and say you couldn't possibly have had 3 bad experiences in a row because I reckon it's quite possible But there isn't anywhere else like it and as you say the tea selection is fantastic. I've not had their sandwiches or cake - but the pastries were ice (if small) and the Bourgignone dish I had was lush recently. And I have to say I have had some good service as well

  24. woodie - you're right - we did rather meander of your original point - sorry They could have been more flexible but equally they have a policy. It's drawn it to my attention so whilst I'm happy to buy stuff for myself in there I will think twice about buying a "surprise" for someone lest they don't like it
