  1. have to agree on the reasoning here - all of these things were accelerating at pace long before new legislation - the legislation was partly hoped to curb the excesses. That it hasn't is not good news but it ain't the reason behind the culture
  2. depends if you see leaking the news as positive - most people on here don't And whilst your correct on the celebs leaking things to the press to show them in a good light, the names covered are over such a span and so disparate as individuals you would think the leaks would have happened over a period of time - but they didn't. Just one day - booom, here;s a list of stars wot refused it Did they all club together? We should be told!
  3. agree about Radiohead too but the 3 comedy series you mention are quite, quite different from each other - one of them should appeal at least is fat and sugar expensive? I know good CHOCOLATE is expensive but that is a different matter. And yeah it's kind of twee but even tho' many other shops have got in on the act it was a bit of a trailblazer. And kids seem to love it - if I was a kid I'd love it. Actually I love it anyway... is there somewhere else I can go to get chocolate chilis? And I agree about the Arctic Monkeys too
  4. point to note - it's only bleedin' sold out already Feck
  5. You beat me to it Lizzy....
  6. indeed char1ie took me a while to realise it was THEY who put the music on - not someone ripping the p***
  7. I don't think anyone rates it Cassius, much less over-rates it
  8. it appears I am in a minority here, but allow me to make the most of it To my knowledge, most of the people on that list were "outed" by a journalist - not something they "let slip" to be ostentaious And even if they wanted people to know, it's only ostentatious if the value is percieved by the owner - and if a value is attached then they would have accepted it On a different tack - Lot's of people on here throw their hands up when people mention "class" but here we have something which perpetuates the whole bloody thing and it seems to be something to be proud of
  9. ahhhhh... * edited for clarity *
  10. I miss John Peel a lot but if I think to a future time when I'm sat with my mates in a pub I would be happier with the following scenario "when we learned that we were to stand straight and keep our heads slightly bowed, with our hands clasped in front of us. We were not to speak to the Queen until she had spoken to us first, or to offer a handshake unless she did so first. We were not to initiate conversation with the Queen. If she asked us a question, we could respond as we wished (with proper titles and such), but we were not to initiate it ourselves" I thought, "is this bauble worth it? I know she is alleged to bring in more money than she costs for tourism, but she is still only a human being. Why exactly, is this an honour foe ME? I deserve more respect that this" so I just didn't go And then they would buy me a pint...
  11. Now THAT is impressive - to me anyway *Bob* - I fear you have painted yourself into a corner (ooh if that's the thing do I get extra points?)
  12. Lizzy I wouldn't worry You are talking about someone (annaj) who managed to shock Chavwivalawdegree within seconds of meeting her. One day you may find out how hard that is!
  13. OOoooh - and another thing - by the time you get to series 4 of THAT US SERIES I KEEP TALKING ABOUT, the who series foucuses on the education system in inner cities - ie Baltimore. Very very good stuff it is too
  14. Nope - It is interesting but I haven't anything to add to what I said in the other thread at the mo Although I can imagine if a head had less control over a school budget, and it started to struggle, people would say the head's hands are tied and they should be given more control It's a minefield really
  15. you're just going to have to come clean with him Lizzy
  16. *plans are being hatched* * Revenge Plans *
  17. well then, I'm glad I'm not in YOUR office when they come a-knocking
  18. actually I think instead of LOH, it might be LRH technology - L Ron Hubbard. It was just misheard on the video
  19. The video keeps appearing on new sites and getting taken down but it is worth tracking down if you can quote: "The video that was shown at the scientology award ceremony when Tom Cruise was presented with the IAS Freedom Medal of Valor in 2006 has shown up on-line, and although it's getting ripped down as fast as it's put up, you can see it here or download it here. If I had to describe it with one word, it would be oh-my-fucking-god. These people are nuts. At one point he says something to the effect of, "when a scientologist drives by an accident, we have to stop, because we know we're the only ones who can help". Um, or feel free to call 911. Because being trapped under a car and then seeing Tom Cruise run up is just about the most horrible mental image I've ever had. I would seriously just fake my own death at that point. " Some highlights Insane laughter at the end Free use of terms like KSW and SP The bit about how he can't go on holiday because "he knows" Random, unexplained pauses that would put Shatner to shame The concept that Tom Cruise has delivered "LOH technology" (Google draws a blank on this) to over 1 million people on earth
  20. hope no-one was too badly hurt Terrible junction - and not the first accident to happen there. Didn't a car plough into the Bishop last year or the year before?
  21. Haven't seen the film but have heard many fors and againsts I do know that race as an issue over there is substantially different to the UK. Even if you see a US comic touring the UK a lot of material is about race and it leaves UK audiences non-plussed because we seem to just get on with it and mingle much more than the US I know some parts of the UK have enclaves but on the whole we are very good at the whole multi-cultural thing
  22. wow Mogs - I know how much this means to you! I suspect it will get taken down briefly while the appropriate disagreements (ie how much cash) are sorted and it'll be back online shortly after
  23. hopefully trytapas will come on and tell us what was good and bad from his perspective on the opening weekend I know he sought advice about wether to have football/ales etc and is trying to cover several bases (like most pub managers I guess) One to add to the forum drinks list?
  24. well yes there is that of course - but it is a different argument The question raised at the start of the thread was about wether an OBE should be accepted, not about pro or anti-monarchy (happy to join in if it kicks off tho!) (although a part of me suspects that was the intention of the question. Cynical, moi?)
