  1. I've been to the Brockwell Park ones a couple of times - I thought they were pretty good although went on a weee bit too long for me
  2. I can do the Dylan Moran role - easy!
  3. Thanks to Quaywe and maxsharp for providing the info (and good luck to Max and family with the whole enterprise) I'm not a gym person myself (as anyone who knows me can testify) but this sounds like a welcome addition to the area Very best of luck (If SOME people feel the need to come on and rubbish it without trying then it's a free world I guess but really....)
  4. I'm looking forward to THIS answer, MP.... ;-)
  5. That hard done by section of society...

  7. Jays of course I do... They are the same guys who did Zig & Zag before they became Anglified... I absolutely love em to bits I have a theory that the 2 religious guys who came to the door in the first episode of Black Books are the guys behind both duos....

  11. Interestingly (for me anyway) it is because of Stoke Newington that I discovered ED - what's the beef with Stokey?
  12. Jah... sorry what can I say... obviously I'm elated but a great match, with so many chances either side it could have been any kind of result
  13. I guess the answer is... it depends A genuinely ferocious recession will leave few survivors an even then the aftermath will take some people down But if we are talking about something along the lines of the early 90s I would say ED is pretty much likely to be ok (overall I mean... individuals and individual businesses will suffer in the short term ) A small area with a pretty mixed demographic but more importantly a pretty loyal and interested population will see the profile of LL largely unchanged in the medium-term.... the mix of bars and restaurants may shrink but will be the first to regrow. Estate agents will inevitably contract - Foxtons may be new and big but that may make them the most exposed The various cafes will largely be ok, the gift shops less so and the food retailers will be fine All of this is from a business perspective - my experience of previous recessions have been in different parts of the country but no less prosperous areas - and money aside they have provided me with some of my best friendships and memories... Going out to various eateries and bars is great and not to be thrown away lightly - but spending less, hanging out at friend's houses etc is underestimated in good times (by the relatively affluent anyway) Worst come to the worst, batten down the hatches, do what needs doing but don't give up on what makes life great - the good times will roll again
  14. Ah - a timely interjection from our man in the East - and one I can only agree with This thread is one of several (see also: City Bonuses, Northern Rock, and Inconvenient Truth) where people seem to want to have it both ways - ie unbridled free-markets are great BECAUSE they provide choice for the all-important consumer (hey, if people are prepared to spend money on odd canon-ball shaped lighters who are we to stop them - let;s have several) and yet when the economy takes a downturn they are still GREAT because they reduce 9 curry houses on LL to just the one required. Boom and bust all over again For many years those of us who have said things are just TOO out there to be sustained we have been dismissed with an "it's different this time" attitude... how dare we question these Gods of the Universe. Their jobs are on the line if they f@@@ up - yeah, yeah.. just THEIR jobs.... psshhhh
  15. As this debacle unfolds im reminded of the recent city bonus thread and the certainty of some people that these idiots who self regulate and self award bonuses are some how worth so much. . if this thing reaches its potential ugly conclusion i have no doubt that they will blame those people who took out mortgages they couldn afford. . Despite that being the business model of these institutions.
  16. Thursday are a better day for most things but in my experience organising anything via the board, you need to keep it in front of people and poll regularly who is definitely coming - you'll get a feeling a couple of days before any event as to it's likely success And I'm sure your comment re Mikese22 isn't a reflection on the man himself ;-) Speaking of events - are ye coming to the forum birthday do upstairs at the Mag on Friday?
  17. BB - I think you hit the nail on the head re: customer base and I have some sympathy with them on that score. If you are in the position of trying to relaunch a pub but want to get rid of the drugs and aggro (NB to anyone about to bring class into the argument - I do not mean getting rid of well behaved punters of any class) then your options are pretty much limited to teh one they have taken. Now, how far one takes those prices is another matter and I think they may have pitched it juuuust ( © Mockney Piers) too harshly but they have time to change And I agree totally with your comments on the over-attentiveness - absolute sweethearts they may be, but we can figure out a way to a table, bar etc...
  18. Louisa "gastropub whore" is a bit strong isn't it? Partly because there are hardly any gastropubs around here (once again for those not listening, ?4 for a hot roll containing 2 good sausages and onions is very yummy but gastro fare it ain't) But also because you seem to have honed in on Asset for some reason - we all give you a hard time in one way or another but you haven't yet called me a gastropub whore (disappointingly I might add) And if you have been over to Tokyo several times you are clearly doing alright for a "south-east london scrubber" - (any implied denigration in that description is by you btw) - so why the hostility? Seriously.... downsouth and I had a good old toe-to-toe in one of the other threads without once descending into name-calling - and I've never met him either so come on... lighten up. please pretty please with cherries on top
  19. my "s" post was done just after the final "math" in Asset's original post - can't help feel it got lost amongst the rest of the posts :'(
  20. What time you finished? you are more than welcome to join myself, Ladygooner and poss a few others at my brothers pub showing the game (ahem) in South Wimbledon - details in the "whats on in ED" forum under the spurs v arsenal thread
  21. you going to the game Jah?
  22. I have heard much about the savers but I did wonder about the mortgage holders - how are they likely to bear the cost - increased charges/rates?
  23. Good news Mark - and thanks to both for the donations
