  1. "telephones/get some earphones sonny so I can read my book in (slightly more) peace" fixed ;-) But agreed also!
  2. and bus journey's go MUCH faster when your brain is whirring through some juicy clues
  3. You'vetouched on a real sore point with me there Al&Em - and a very good example of the problem. By the time it stops again outside The Vale I'm close to .... well, annoyed. What's worse is sometimes people get on one stop and then get off 20 yards later... thanks for that, guys
  4. Buggie - we had realised the same thing as you walked back from the cafe but didn't get to meet again - citizened was the gentleman reclining on the ground, his partner in the deck chair beside him (a lurker on here) and I was the white haired loon in the other deckchair
  5. I think the pent-up demand for a cinema is not quite as feverish as it was for a butchers before William Rose arrived, but it might not be far off. But the only buildings/sites I would have thought suitable candidates have been put to other uses (the gym near Thomas More Hall and Foxton's being the sites I had in mind)
  6. Guardianista - but have to agree with Mockney - The Telegraph was my introduction to cryptics and remains the most accessible. I would never BUY the thing but used to download the crossword page
  7. The weather held and it was lovely to spend time with citizen & CWALD, plus their respective splendid partners and gorgeous children. We belatedly met Buggie as well - hopefully more consistent weather will see a higher turnout next time
  8. I will probably make it for 2.30 ish . Carrying a chair and tin foil
  9. time to step up and commit, people - who is actually going, and when?
  10. amen to that tommy! :)-D
  11. I have a feeling we will be grand - bring it on
  12. I was in a dive bar in San Fran last year and put "Waiting For The Man" on the jukebox. When Lou sang "26 dollars in my hand" the barmaid tutted and say "what's ANYONE going to get for 26 dollars these days?"
  13. Without wishing to sound like a RM fetisist, I can only echo every point Marmora Man makes in that last post. I'm a Ken supporter (give or take) and remember his words before power about Routemasters - and one can oly be suspicious about the swiftness of the bendy bus introduction. I'm not anti-bendy bus by default - I have used many of them perfectly well, but as a model, the conducter/driver/freedom of the RM is nigh on impossible to beat
  14. I thought it might be wandering instead of rambling (wan - reduced healthy appearance?) as for old - O = old sometimes and as it appears inside the word (go round) i think you might have it
  15. Annaj - saw him twice. First time was on the back of a 3 minute excerpt I saw on Channel 4 around 91 and had no real idea what to expect... life wasn't the same afterwards
  16. 2. Stand up comedians A top 10 as of now - I may change many of these 1 Bill Hicks 2 Stewart Lee 3 Reg D Hunter 4 Lenny Bruce 5 Richard Pryor 6 Brendon Burns 7 Eddie Izzard (back in the day - not so much now) 8 Rob Newman 9 Mark Thomas 10 Daniel Kitson
  17. * wanders down to William Rose * * buys a chicken and has it jointed * * gathers the necessary ingredients * * blitttttzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz * * jerk marinade.. sweeeet * * chicken in fridge for 24 hours with that stuff and that's food on Sunday sorted * come on the sun
  18. godd top 10 of top 10s annaj - thinking cap time
  19. ahhh 90s house-piano... nostalgia ok - a variety box to start the weekend Edwyn Collins - Don't Shilly Shally Tricky - Poems (feat Terry Hall) XTC - Dear God Santa Esmerelda - Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
  20. only 5 weeks to go before the weekly column in Time Out (using all the bus routes in London starting at #1) gets to the 12
  21. talk of the discount tyre shop doesn't specifically relate to STD codes so I'm going to claim the tyre shop on LL, opposite Franklins as an (01) shop
  22. whoo hooo tarynlondon... you have hit a forum nerve there! (tis a subject that crops up regularly) Leaving aside the politics of the large supermarkets for a moment, some recommended local shops (not bars/restuarants etc) I use are: SMBS foods (opposite Barclays Bank) Val's supermarket (opposite library) not some special deli but friendly Nisha behind the counter, her recipe suggestions and the Irish black pudding Mrs Robinson - for the odd furniture piece William Rose - for meat unimagined in supermarket-land DIY shop opposite the Bishop Turkish foodshop near there G&B wine shop The Kitchen Shop - next to EDT - seriously expensive but I have bought some genuinely last-me-a-lifetime stuff there Grace & Favour on Northcross Rd for chocolate AJ Farmers for the bits n bobs stuff you might buy in supermarket (scubbers, batteries, etc) there are others - but for now...
  23. why thank you CWALD - but that means you remember the drunken chatup line ;-)
  24. Re: chatting up Look - I've apologised for that night ok????
  25. why don't you guys come join me in the "people who hate people" lounge? "will you be there?" Sure will "then we ain't coming"
