  1. My tip with scratched CD/DVDs is to put them in the freezer - sounds odd but has helped me out several times
  2. But I don't desbelieve you about the woman FHC - I do believe you. And I think I've said that she does sound like an exhibitionist, not just an earth-mother with a desire to breast-feed on a whim... so at this point I think we all agree about her at least
  3. Speechless Absolutely speechless (not at you Asset - but the previous posts) I'm re-reading again... nope - still speechless
  4. ;-) macroban T'was entirely a misread of the sign that caused my original confusion some weeks back - I thought it a pleasant folly to prolong the misinterpretation (not a real word surely)
  5. Asset - I applaud your pedantry.... but as a friend-making device??
  6. a de-Lounge? fair play... Re: prices.. a pint of Peroni costs 3.20 v 3.60 at The Bishop.. one could argue that that is not a bad comparison. Obviously compared to old Plough prices that is a big difference but really... do people think good lager costs the same as Fosters?
  7. CWALD I have been slighted (as has a good friend) by someone who knows neither of us..... The prosecution rests re-edited for further thoughts: I have been slighted by someone who THINKS that random CAPITAL LETTERS and exclamation marks (of all things!!!!!!!!!!!) make a point more forcefully and more righteously If I've read the thread correctly the original poster made a point with which I, DulwichMum and ChavWithALawDegree all essentially agreed (ie - breastfeeding = A Good Thing, but exhibitionism is slightly less edifying) but then the original poster (with an apparant chip on their shoulder the size of a baking potato) decides to attack both myself and DulwichMum by name What gives? PS with a further caveat agreeing with Bob and Keef that the original post appeared to be a spoof but further exposition appeared to give credence to it
  8. Liking the minotaur shock MP - although I tend to like most things with a minotaur attachment The recent GTAIV trailer made me hunt this down: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aVvILUmvwh4&mode=related&search= No ACTUAL video but the track has been a mental soundtrack all week
  9. I can feel the thread already veering away from "here's a good site" to "this site lampoons the Bush government's disrespect towards vegans, which is offensive not just to vegans but bushy vegans in particular" Here's another great site - for chilli-heads everywhere http://www.adrianascaravan.com/content/Shop/CategoryMain.asp?CATEGORYNUMBER=2&CATEGORYNAME='Whole+Chilies'&SECUREID=FU9G49NJ motto: offensively cruel to tongues since 7500 BC
  10. Oi - leave Pope Creepy alone http://images.encarta.msn.com/xrefmedia/sharemed/targets/images/pho/0017b/0017bc35.jpg
  11. Chilli Parcel arrived from [www.chillipepperpete.com] today.. took for EVER to get into it mind. File under "robust" packaging I'm making something similar to this: http://www.toptastes.com/recipes/entrees/yassa.htm but with more variation on the chillis used.... results tomorrow
  12. Linda Barker in SMB foods this afternoon - don't like her TV persona much but she seemed very pleasant
  13. I think Domitianus is obsessed with showing his penis I'm all for women being allowed to breast feed openly and have long been bemused by the anglo-saxon suspicion of same. However, it does sound as if this women is mistaking exhibitionism with child-care The big difference between exposing a breast in public and a penis, is of course that a breast represents no threat to anyone, but some men have a history of using their penis for more brutal means than mere exhibitionism (although the age-old response to any flasher of "ooh look it's like a penis only smaller " remains the best reply to flashers)
  14. The Administrator has ONE night off and the place turns to anarchy
  15. Apparently the top floor has a single room at the rear - it's the Quiet Room
  16. Bumping this relatively thread-ancien on the grounds of the sterling work they did in hosting us forumites last night (with free food and everything) - and a reminder to people to get down their more often. Having a local backstreet bar is a wonderous thing
  17. CitizenEd has an alibi for last night This was the first weekend at the new Plough - I've seen some of the old regulars struggle on the quieter weeknights so worried slightly about the first big weekend night
  18. Very prompt Keef - nice one. And was it you gave me the ciggy?
  19. * Shuffles into the room before anyone else stirs * * Picks up the sorry-ass caftiere and decides it's not up to the job * * grabs a solitary owl from behind the top shelf who though he had survived the cull, paints it white, pops it on ebay as a rarity, and nets several hundred pounds withing 5 minutes * * Takes money down to Argos and buys a fleet of coffee machines * * grinds some Blue Mountain beans and instantly regrets the noise * * finally - sets all the coffee machines to "on" and leaves the room to the sound of percolating heaven *
  20. Welcome to the forum record_spot I'd love to have been the manager who, post music-zone deal, was privvy to the extent of the debts and other problems inherited.... poor soul
  21. *Re-Edited on a proper keyboard* Good to meet you too CWALD - especially now you HAVE a degree ;-) I think everyone may be a little tender headed this morning so if you are suffering from post-drinks-come-down and why-is-noone-responding-to-my-sweet-post don't get paranoid. It's not you it's the rest of us recovering Thanks to Jamie and Viv for being great hosts and great to meet all the regs, the semi regs and the first timers. (no Louisa tho!) And now, to The Quiet Room for some coffee...
  22. The Health side of the debate is (in my opinion) way overplayed. My belief is that secondary smoke DOES have an impact on my health but that has never truly bothered me. As people have pointed out, my alcohol intake is sufficient to ensure my health is already less than perfect But as I've said before - the reason I am glad the choice has been taken away from smokers (no way of saying that nice - I still love my smoker friends) is the same reason I'm glad it's not allowed in buses and offices anymore. The argument that pubs are different holds some water but, as pubs have evolved, that reason too is now moot
  23. I witnessed a very amusing scene at lunchtime there today.... (The Plough that is). I might put it in the relevant thread tho Ed I think you were right about the Herne being nominated but having been in a few times (and thought it fine) it is more in the Franklins/Palmerston ballpark
  24. Wind me up? The very thought. . . there is the old notion that anything. . No matter how unbelievable. . Can be explained with a 2 word suffix. "in america" i am geek enough to have played online games against americans. It doesnt do much to instill hope for the future i can tell you. But this is a sub set. I stand by my old defence that most americans are sound as a pound
  25. Surely anything i say now will sound smug? how bad is the craving. You can still smoke right? And ive offered to have a fag outside tonight out of solidarity
