  2. I would also suspect that a mass re-print would just fan the flames. While attacks against other newspapers would seem unlikely, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it increasing the likeliness of further terrorist attacks in Paris. Surely this is exactly the kind of material that extremists can use to convince followers and recruits that it's "them-against-us". While a show of defiance sounds like a good idea in theory, it has to be balanced against the greater priority of improving relations with the muslim world. It's easy to say that these people don't represent Islam... but they do appear to represent a significant section of it... and they won't be defeated by air strikes...
  3. I don't see that footballers are so different from other sportspeople, actors, musicians, etc in terms of the "role model" status. Across all forms of entertainment you can find role models (past and present) who have done disgraceful things. I think it begs the wider question of whether certain offenders (e.g. serious assault, sexual abuse, etc) should even be legally allowed to work in sports and entertainment at all. My personal feeling is that they shouldn't... but while I can obviously understand a sponsor threatening withdrawal, it seems inappropriate for the signing to become a commercial decision.
  4. I do Peckham Rye to Moorgate every day. Overground gives you a few different options - walk to Shoreditch High St, or Hammersmith & City via Whitechapel, or Northern and Jubliee via Canada Water. Also City Thameslink is only a 15 min walk from Moorgate, the Thameslink trains to DH and PR seem reasonably reliable. However, none of these routes offer quite the speed and frequency of the old London Bridge service.
  5. Not noticed that myself.

  7. I think there are some valid reasons for name changing, particularly if you previously used your real name (or part of it). I regret registering with my real name for a number of reasons, but can't be arsed to re-register.
  8. Camberwell Arms, Crooked Well, Silk Road, FM Mangal... all really good. Also a few less obvious places like Viet-Cafe, and even the Indian (Safa) is better than the ED curry places.
  9. There is a loose group of long term posters who know (or have met) each other in real life, or have common acquaintances, etc. I'd put myself on the fringe of that group, and people like Otta/SJ/EP closer to the core of it. But it's not as if these people always have the same views, or never get into "forum arguments".
  10. Otta winning X-Factor (and Britain's Top Model in the same year) is more likely than the greens ever becoming a credible political force.
  11. Belgium #1 for culture is one of the most absurd things I've ever read. Not sure what "world order" means, but Germany at #1 raised a silent chuckle.
  12. Alex K Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > under the duvet with Camberwell **shame** Come on now, there's no shame in living in Camberwell. Possibly better than ED for eating and drinking?
  13. red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Otta and Jeremy form a new band, The Clique, and go on to win The X Factor If I ever go anywhere near that show, it will be with a bottle of cheap vodka in one hand, and a box of matches in the other.

Because drivers are still likely to take the corner at an inappropriate speed, and not notice the crossing/crosser until it is too late.
  15. Could you have a pelican crossing over East Dulwich Grove, linked to the existing traffic lights on LL? So whenever anyone wanted to cross, traffic on both roads was stopped? Too extreme?
  16. Tory/UKIP alliance in government The new royal baby to emerge with red hair London House prices down 10% Andy Murray won't reach a grand slam final Chelsea to fail in their bid for the quadruple but get the domestic treble Sorry to see you go, quids ED Picturehouse to open just in time for xmas 2015, amid small scale LWW protests

  18. Just wait until Crystal Palace Rd and Adys Rd become part of the new cycle highway! Then your parking really will be screwed!!
  19. Could there be a pedestrian crossing on East Dulwich Grove, set back maybe 15 metres from the junction? With large speed bumps on LL either side of the junction to prevent drivers speeding round the corner, and railings to prevent pedestrians taking a shortcut?
  20. If there is a "clique" - and I interpret that as a group of long-term members who tend to be on the same side in most arguments - it contains at most three people. Only one of which still lives in London.
  21. Terrible journey this morning... should have known better. Back to Thameslink tomorrow, I think.
  22. Running's a good way of losing a bit of weight - if your knees can take it. Book yourself in on a 10K run in the spring or early summer and set a target time to aim for. That (at least for me) is a decent motivator. Join a gym if you don't fancy running in the cold/dark.
  23. Yeah I agree... avoidance first, then if you have to fight, render them immobile as quickly as possible! (not that I'd fancy my chances of succeeding, you understand) When I used to do Wing Chun, the instructor was a big fan of kicks/stamps to the knees, chops to the throat, fingers in the eyes, jamming your thumb into the trachea, etc. Then get the hell out of there!

In the very first event, the 50 meter swimming heats, Frazier nearly drowned, and only after he was retrieved from the pool did he admit to commentators that he didn't know how to swim. When a reporter asked him why he tried the race, Frazier replied, "How was I to know I couldn't unless I tried it?"
