  4. I don't know... but given that a side return extension (say 1.5m x 6m) can cost 40K before you've even starting thinking about the interior... a construction three times that size is not going to be cheap.
  5. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > if an old lady carried some salt or pepper in her bag Is this some kind of typo? Or are you really saying that salt and pepper would deter a knife wielding mugger?

  7. Hermit's Cave is proper innit
  8. James - interesting theory but sounds like a bit of a stretch. Is there actually any evidence at all?
  9. The Actress reminds me a bit of a pub in an airport or station. But The Uplands before it was worse. Strange that people find the EDT boring drinkswise, I think it's one of the better ones... they always seem to have at least one interesting craft beer on tap, plus a few ales. And they rotate them a lot.
  10. Medley Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Harrow is nearly three times as far from central London as ED, so not really an apt comparison. Sorry, I was talking about Bromley... should have clarified that one. Areas like ED, Peckham, Camberwell have a stronger case.
  11. Having had my morning train cancelled twice this week - and enduring trainless weekends for >10 years - I can confirm that national rail is indeed shit. But that doesn't mean that extending the tube out to the Kent borders is the right thing to do, in terms of a scalable infrastructure. Being "on the tube" might give you the impression of being closely connected to London, but in reality sitting on a tube from Barnet or Harrow right into the centre is a pretty bloody unrewarding experience. When you're that far out, what you ideally need is fast/frequent trains with fewer stops.

  13. I kinda like those "oyster" things.

He said that he'd been > told as a child that southerners were bad and that > he should hate them. Maybe it was a Thatcher thing... they thought the south was all in cahoots with Thatcher, scheming against the North. Meanwhile in London we so rarely heard anything about the north (apart from Arthur Scargill and The Smiths), so we were kind of oblivious to it.
  15. TB2 - do you get charged extra doing that route, as you have to leave Clpm High St station and enter Clpm North?
  16. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It is an offence for an ice cream van to sound > it's chimes before 12 noon or after 7pm: Compared to the amount of chavmobiles around with huge subwoofers, or screaching modified scooters... the odd ice cream van is the least of my concerns.

    Northeners...

I remember meeting plenty of people in my student days who would claim in all seriousness that they didn't like London and they did not like Southerners. Many of them had never been to the south, and their opinions usually resulted purely from football and rugby. But it also struck me how they often seemed to hate each other too. Mancs and scousers seem to hate each other more than Londoners. And people from Hull (wherever that is) seemed to have a real dislike of Leeds.
  18. I'm positive that ice cream drug vans exist. Peckham's probably as likely a place as any.
  19. I would have thought that areas like Bromley and Beckenham primarily need fast (i.e. national rail) links to central London with few stops. The tube is better for shorter journeys, isn't it?
  20. Time to put differences aside and unite in ridicule of this sad individual.
  21. I'd go for the bike every time TBH. But a driver claiming they have the judgement to avoid almost any colision with a pedestrian... far fetched to say the least!
  22. But neither Foxtons or Picture House took over their site from independent shops. Franco Manca is taking over the site from another small chain. I get the point of course, but nevertheless, the prediction of "indies squeezed out by chains" has not really materialised yet to any significant extent.
  23. Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Maybe there is only three of them because they are all shit. A very astute observation. However, people have been banging on for at least ten years about chains taking over. What have we got... Cafe Nero, Oliver Bonas, Gourmet Burger... that's about it I think.
  24. A girl I knew at uni once fed her snake with a live mouse. She bought it at a pet shop, and they gave her an information pack on caring for your mouse and everything. Then she took it home and dropped it into the snake's tank. I won't tell you what she does for a living now...
