  1. I don't think people stating their preference is "selfish"... nothing wrong with hearing both sides of the argument. Not that it's going to make much difference to anything at the end of the day..

    Hipsters

Stuck in the 90s. I know that feeling. As for the 'hipsters'... I kind of think that anyone who follows a fashion uniform is a bit daft, but they're basically harmless and most of them will probably look back at photos of themselves in a few years time and have a good laugh at their drainpipe jeans, pink DMs, etc. I don't really watch football and you'll certainly never find me at a Hamlet game, but surely the more people going through the gates the better for the club. Unless they're being 'ironic' (i.e. taking the piss)

    Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin are probably top of my list of "music people rave about but I can't quite get into" Pavement also make the top five.
  4. Pizza is just posh cheese on toast anyway. You can get it in Iceland for ?1 - what sort of imbicile would pay more than that for a pizza? Probably the same sort of person who is obsessed with "restaurants" and other post-gentrification yuppie trappings.
  5. It's almost certainly a "something", not a "somebody". And that "something" would be a piece of software on your phone behving strangely, rather than some sort of malign interference.
  6. Is Bromley even in London? I know it's a London Borough in the same way that say Croydon, Enfield or Romford are, but in practise these places are separate towns in their own right, with "suburbs" of their own. I'd say that fast rail links into major London hubs are a better solution for these places than a tube line.
  7. What kind of freakish weirdo is interested in shops, eateries, and other local facilities? Seriously, get a grip!
  8. I agree with lane lover. I find the obsession with shops and commerical premises a little weird.
  9. There are times when positive action in the job market can be justified.

  11. I don't think I've ever been in All Fired Up. It is a good location though...
  12. 5 mins to ED station? Yeah, on a bike!
  13. I'd hate to live in your house, charlesfare. People always knocking on your door at all times of night, and buggering off before you answer! Maybe you should move to a different street, it's never happened to me!
  14. I think that's it, SJ... people are looking for appreciation (despite CGT). Investors would need to be cash rich to make it work though.
  15. Based on nothing more than personal anecdote... I think a basic 3 bed terrace has gone up from around 675K to around 825ish in a year. Closer to 20% than 40%. I think flats might have risen more, though.
  16. We were in the market for a 3 bed terrace last summer. There was nothing matching that description in ED for under 650K - regardless of condition. So at ?420K it was ridiculously under-valued, unless it had major structural defects or something.
  17. Old Kent Rd option sounds good, but would be a missed opporunity if there wasn't an interchange at Queens Rd.
  18. Denmark Hill is only a 5 min walk from Camberwell Green. Loughborough Jn 10 mins. Agree that Northern Camberwell/Burgess Park area is a deadzone though.
  19. Morley's on East Dulwich Rd do burgers - not just chicken! For 6 quid you could probably get two... plus fries and a coke.
  20. Never mind KK! Would be interesting to see Hopkins against Kovalev or Stevenson. Interesting... but not exciting...
  21. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > only those planning to leave London benefit > from increasing prices or those planning to > downsize. I would personally prefer to see prices > that would allow my children to live in London > without waiting for me and my husband to die... Yep. I'm not sitting on stacks of equity, but even if I was, it would mean nothing unless I was going to leave London (or the SE altogether). Which is probably never going to happen. Most people realise that there's no benefit in all of this... The tales of people at parties non-too-subtly boasting about how much their house has appreciated just don't tally with my own experiences.
  22. Flood prevention measures.
  23. I believe the London Assembly recently published a report calling for a housing corporation to build homes directly. It doesn't seem that far fetched to me. Perhaps purchase prices could be means-tested, so that the net result is break-even. Maybe the units could be finished to a very basic/minimal spec to keep prices down, allowing owners to upgrade and add value the properties as and when they were able to. As for the printing money comparison... if printing money has the effect of devaluing a currency, the analogy doesn't seem so bad...
  24. mikeb, it's not just that it would be harder to move "up the ladder". Moving like-for-like (for instance for work reasons) would be impossible unless you have large cash savings. It wouldn't be practical or fair. "Then so be it" doesn't really cut it for me, I'm afraid!
