  1. Totally agree that the claims of "?1.4m per bus" are nothing short of stupid. (Tottenham MP David Lammy came out with a bizarre quote saying that it's equivalent of a new BMW per seat!). But even once production is scaled up, surely a custom-designed bus will still work out a lot more expensive than a Mercedes or Volvo bus produced in vast quantities? And I would still argue that this is not the right time to be spending money on "Cool Britannia" icons. It does look good though...

    New sofa?

We have an M&S sofa, it's very comfy and the construction is solid. The designs aren't exactly cutting edge, but there's a decent selection of styles and fabrics. The delivery men were very good too, they managed to get it in through the front sash window! I used to have a crappy one from DSF/Courts/Land Of Leather/whatever, the carcass was made from chipboard held together with glue and staples. The M&S one has a solid wood frame and seems very sturdy.

  5. As a local forum, it's a convenient way of getting rid of things you no longer need. But the readership is limited, so if you are determined to get the best price possible, you need to throw it open to a wider audience, i.e. Ebay or Gumtree. Don't start getting abusive because nobody wanted to pay almost ?300 for your crappy old sofa. The person who made the offer was perfectly polite, but in return you're acting like a complete nutter. If you despise the EDF readership so much, I suggest you sod off and flog your old junk elsewhere!
  6. helew - that's not a grey area, anyone walking straight out without waiting for traffic to stop is plain wrong!!
  7. Amen.
  8. Treehugger's right, it can shake you up if you have a near miss, either as a pedestrian or motorist. Miss P, it sounds like you did nothing wrong, it's quite magnanimous of you to offer an apology.
  9. Texts are great, as are emails. Phone calls annoy me as I have to stop whatever I am doing... I can respond to texts when it's conveninent. (I never really was much of a "people person").
  10. Actually I seem to recall that the CW limit used to be 190, which is a much smaller gap than what we have now. Obviously the last thing we need is yet more weight divisions, but it does seem to me that the scale need rebalancing.
  11. Tumbleweed noted!
  12. El Pibe - have you ever taken a bus in India?!
  13. I'd be amazed if it was sold overseas in any significant quantities!
  14. Sure, but I was thinking that if someone breaks the specified T&C, then you'd probably be legally entitled to ask them to leave.
  15. I think they look great, but hard to justify the expense of commissioning a bus specifically for London in these times of austerity. Obviously the cost per unit will come down over time, but it will always be a much more expensive option than a stock double-decker.
  16. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Clev's not moving to CW so I suspect BigMac is just floating between the weights OK... fair enough. But 175lb-200lb is a pretty damn big gap to just float between! (I've never really understood why there are so many lighter divisions, but so few at the heavier end of the scale).
  17. You can always edit the post, PeckhamRose!! You do have to wonder how things like this were ever allowed to happen:
  18. Sue, is there a way to display your own T&C on the website when people buy tickets, saying that the audience is expected to keep quiet during the performance?
  19. Do you mean "Treacle Jr", Katie? Never heard of it.
  20. I see what ibilly means by his "lipstick on a pig" comment (let's face it, Rye Lane is rather unattractive). But if you want to improve the area, you've got to start somewhere... and restoration of period architecture seems like a pretty good start to me. This work will also make the station area feel more open and safer.
  21. Nope, Maccarinelli's next fight is for the British CW title!
  22. Enzo is now back at Cruiserweight (despite his opponent on Saturday being a super-middleweight). It's a very strange episode... but I remember he looked pretty skinny at light-heavy. I don't mean to belittle Cleverly's acheivements, he's had a good career so far and surely is in the top 10 British p4p. But if he wants to be recognised as anything but another alphabet champion, he has to start facing some decent opposition. Glen Johnson would be a good test, before chasing the likes of Dawson, Froch, etc.
  23. Different words, same meaning. He inherited a vacant title, and has never faced a top-10 fighter - let alone one of the top guys like Dawson/Hopkins/Pascal. The very definition of a paper champion!
  24. Nathan Cleverly? Paper champion.
  25. I think Latin is taught in some schools merely because there is a certain prestige attached with it. Especially in the more traditional/established schools. I would find it hard to justify the teaching of an extinct language, while the standard of maths and science in UK schools is so low.
