  2. So probably female.
  3. I was just amused by the implication that Americans are significantly taller than the Brits... like she'll come over here and suddenly find herself in the land of midgets. Like Luke Skywalker in the Ewok Village.
  4. I have absolutely no problem with GCSEs in Design and Technology. What I'm not happy about is children being taken out of the GCSE path to study BTECs in "Horse Care" or "Nail Technology", and then to pretend that these are the equivalent of 2 (or more) GCSEs.

What do you know... the average adult female in the US is half an inch taller than in England. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height Wherever you go, heads will turn. People will whisper to each other... "she must be American, they're ever so tall you know".
  6. People do realise that they don't get to vote on which shops open in their neighbourhood... right?
  7. Alcohol has just become so mainstream.
  8. Jules, as you say, that have to keep the kids safe. Probably best to arrange these sort of things beforehand.
  9. Don't wish to sound mean or negative... but will you actually get any money for a laptop that old, which doesn't even work?
  10. No YouTube at work though... makes it a bit difficult.
  11. Come on... Eminem and House Of Pain?? That's like putting Charles & Eddie on the soul thread. Or Busted on the punk rock thread (which I haven't created yet).
  12. XTC were deeply unfashionable? Really?
  13. Baristas. Oh dear.
  14. Yeah. But only the underground stuff. None of that commercial rubbish.

  16. I disagree, school should be for academic education. If a child is struggling to acheive reasonable grades, maybe it would be better to cut the number of subjects they're taking, and give them extra tuition in the most important ones. Moving GCSE students onto vocational courses seems a bit like giving up on them. Besides, there's plenty of time for vocational training after GCSEs.
  17. Not totally sure how you define trendy. But I'm quite confident that once train loads of Essex boys descend on an area every Friday and Saturday, it is no longer trendy.
  18. Maybe true (I'm way too young) but the criteria is "a decent body of work", which DD definitely have. A lot of people mentioning ELO, but I was under the impression that they'd come full circle and been embraced by the in-crowd (at least Mr Blue Sky was a favourite in the usual Shoreditch haunts back when Shoreditch was trendy).
  19. Iron Maiden is a good call, rarely has there been a dafter band - yet they've stood the test of time and have penned a fair few classics. Duran Duran... easily dismissed at the time at teen-pop pretty boys, but really good quality songwriting. I would stop short of calling them pioneering, but definitely influential.
  20. If it's just bath/shower/basin, you might be able to route the waste pipes in the gap between the bedroom floor and the ground floor ceiling. Or maybe with just a little bit of boxing on the downstairs ceiling.
  21. The thing is, ?175 for a second hand sofa isn't even particularly cheeky!
  22. As salsaboy hints at, I don't think you'll be able to put a loo there without a macerator. A shower room and basin might be doable though.

Neither could I find anything about the original routemaster being sold overseas. But it is early days, time will tell.
