    Great Gigs

uncleglen - you piqued my curiosity, and I googled the event you mentioned. I had not previously heard of "Prostitute Disfigurement", do they get played on Capital Radio at all?
  2. We live a 5 min walk away from Bellenden Rd, and it has become a really good little area. For a long time I felt that the area was struggling to regenerate in terms of footfall and the mix/longevity of businesses, but now it really seems to be taking off. The Victoria Inn seems to have given the place the "nerve centre" it needed. All we need now is for a decent restaurant to open in the old Peckham Experiment/Bellenden Brasserie/Pizzeria site...
  3. RosieH/Otta - yeah, I don't understand why anyone would go for the burger either. They did look good coming out, but not that good! Marmora Man - we arrived at 12:10 on a Friday lunchtime, and had a 45 min wait. I hear that early dinner (i.e. 5:30pm) is a good time to go.

  5. Clapham isn't really much closer than central London (and harder to get to on public transport). I would describe "the area" as East Dulwich and the immediately adjoining areas (West Dulwich, Dulwich Village, Peckham Rye, Nunhead, Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Herne Hill, Camberwell/Denmark Hill).
  6. GBK may not be the best burger ever, but it seems to be just about the only nomination we have which is actually "in the area"...
  7. You can't blame an individual for parking on a street, when their employer (which is not in central London) does not provide parking. If the residents are so concerned, they should be asking their councillors for residents parking.
  8. I used to regularly catch early flights from Heathrow. I started off getting a taxi to Paddington followed by Heathrow Express, but soon worked out that a taxi all the way was quicker and only slightly more expensive.
  9. I'm struggling a bit with snowy's suggestion that it is somehow more dangerous for private minicabs to drive in bus lanes than it is for black taxis.
  10. Use the "Attach a file or photo ..." link!!
  11. It's a good company... prices are reasonable (at least for journeys to/from central London), and the app is very useful - as are the SMS updates. John Griffin's comments may seem insensitive, but the fact is that there ARE lots of irresponsible cyclists on the roads riding dangerously.
  12. Maybe, I think it depends on your system. Typically the BIOS will have an option to enable/disable support for USB keyboards, but if it isn't already activated, then you will need an old PS2 keyboard to get into it in the first place.
  13. I can imagine it could be a headache sorting out the mortgage... I guess you'd really need to own one of the flats outright before doing something like this?
  14. My wife used to live in Surrey Quays, I remember standing on Redriff Road watching it one year... there really weren't many spectators at all, you won't have any trouble seeing everyone who runs past.

  16. MrBen, see my earlier post - I think the roast duck and roast pork are decent at Four Seasons, probably the closest in London we've had to the real deal. For authentic Peking duck (not roast duck), I hear Min Jiang is the place to go. Not tried it personally, but intend to soon. High end prices, though.
  17. We did something similar last year, we stayed in Lazise on Lake Garda. We hired a car from Venice, and I'd recommend doing the same if you're interested in seeing a few of the towns around the lake. We dropped it off at Verona airport for a small extra fee.

Running on a treadmill is a lot easier on the joints. And you can mix it up with other low impact stuff, e.g. cross trainer. I usually end up injuring my knees running on the pavement or in the park.
  19. Perhaps some fine sandpaper? The surface of the tiles should be tough enough to avoid serious damage.

  22. Sounds like about 4 days work, prices seems fine to me.
  23. It's a shame, we'll never really know how good these guys are, because there's no yardstick... literally no decent opposition. Vitali arguably proved himself against Lewis, but many would argue that Lewis was past his peak and unmotivated.
  24. Not sure I would agree that Paris is more "interesting" than London, but it's subjective... depends what you're into. But Paris is certainly more picturesque.
  25. Pretty sure they'll refuse to give it to you, unless you have ID with that name on it. Even proof of address is not usually good enough.
