Not decided yet, I was going to wait for UDT to suggest something.

Miking an orchestra for a PA will be totally different to miking it for broadcast. Many close-up mics vs a few ambient mics. Although thinking about it, it is probably more likely to be a syncronisation issue if it has to fit in with video and other visual effects.

I still stand by this. While I have (thankfully) been proved wrong, I still find it incredible that a stranger would offer a lift to a child. He should have known that it would freak out the poor boy.

Update on 549 lordship lane (Concrete House)
Jeremy replied to bob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not sure what you mean meduza, it's not being demolished. -
Regarding the pre-recorded orchestral piece - this could perhaps have something to do with the logistical, technical, and acoustic difficulties of miking up a full symphony orchestra in a difficult environment. I don't think it will have any bearing at all on the future of live orchestral music, because in concert halls - with specifically designed acoustics and much closer proximity to the audience - it would be blatantly obvious if the orcehstra was miming to a pre-recorded track.

I think 5mph is impossible without riding the clutch. However, I think speed bumps are a good idea in this instance.

Therefore 38.4% of statistics are made up on the spot by moronic trolls who are unable to pronounce the word 'statistic'.

I've not been running for a couple of months (knees can't take the punishment), but my usual route is/was around Peckham Rye on a combination of grass, paths, and pavement. Lots of people running and jogging on the weekends, and in the evenings too during the lighter months.

ED house prices: sanity check please
Jeremy replied to Wanhope's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good houses in ED seem to go pretty quickly, I think the 600K+ asking prices for 3 beds seem quite realistic - unfortunately. Houses which need a lot of work seem to stay on the market a lot longer, which is of course understandable. There are reasonable buys to be had if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and invest some hard work. As has been discussed on other threads, East Dulwich is still cheaper than other fairly nice areas within zone 2, I don't think these sorts of prices are crazy. -

I'm sure the child has been fully questioned by school staff and police. They have heard the child's side of the story, and have deduced that it was an attempted abduction. So why doubt it? What information do you have that they don't?

I don't really understand why anyone would be interested in racial distribution of welfare payments. But statements like "recipients are 37.2 percent Black and 46.2 percent White" are quite meaningless when not accompanied by the ethnic breakdown of the population.

Surely there's a strong correlation with poverty. Even though the poorest areas are concentrated in East London, Peckham and Nunhead are still on average fairly poor areas.

Penguin - while you are technically correct in terms of syntax and semantics, sometimes you have to read between the lines. I find it hard to believe that any adult would be naive enough to offer an innocent lift to a child they'd never met before.

Strange bottles full of orange liquid
Jeremy replied to tarafitness's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So 30 litres or so of urine appears all of a sudden, arranged neatly along the curb? Surely this blows the taxi driver theory out of the water. I think it's just coloured water - someone is reading this forum, and is having a great time winding everyone up. -
Brixton - direct train to Bromley, change at Green Park for tube to Kilburn. Pimlico sounds good too, if money is no object.

As Townleygreen says, half-houses share a single street door into a shared hallway, off which there is a separate door into each property. As for the the properties with two front doors in what looks like a normal entrance... the only ones I can think of are in/around Copleston Rd. These are purpose built maisonettes.

I thought it was a terrible performance, they couldn't even keep the ball for 10 seconds. It looked like a premiership side against a division one side. If you look at the semis, there's no way England belong in that sort of company. They were lucky to get put in such a weak group, and even then, they looked very ordinary against weak opposition. Overall - a very poor tournament.

I think it's a good place. Not sure it's the best place for a 22yr old graduate, but there are plenty of bars which can be quite lively, and it's not that far from central London. However, the transport is poor (the trains often don't run on weekends), and commuting by bus from Eltham in the small hours sounds horrific. You'd really have to get a car or motorbike. Greenwich/Blackheath would sound like a much better bet, and is probably a better area to live in (albeit more expensive).

I also thought that the half houses were purpose built, because the layouts (particularly entrances) are all seem pretty much the same. And I'm not sure it would even be feasible to split a house down the middle like that. You'd need to practically rebuild it.

Is Jimmy Carr "Morally Repugnant?
Jeremy replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Marmora Man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What I was trying to suggest is that our "duty" > toward society encompasses more than just the tax > we pay. And I would agree with that, of course. But I would be uncomfortable with the idea of adjusting tax levels depending on how 'worthy' your job is. It's an abstract concept, and measurement would be rather arbitrary. And however you devised the scale, I'm pretty sure that "annoying smug comedian" wouldn't be all that high on it. -
In the real world, where we have fluctuating temperatures and humidity, and we don't have a professional piano tuner on hand whenever you want to play, a good digital piano can actually sound better than a conventional piano. Certainly if your budget is modest, the digital piano will be a better buy. But practical purposes aside, an electronic keyboard will never have the soul (for want of a better word) of a real instrument. And a real piano looks a lot nicer in your lounge.

Is Jimmy Carr "Morally Repugnant?
Jeremy replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I suspect that is more to do with lack of > opportunity than any higher moral standing. Yep, of course it is. But MM seemed to be suggesting that entertainers might somehow be entitled to pay less tax because of their perceived contribution to society. I'm saying that they're not. -

He was blatantly trying to wriggle out of paying his fair share of tax. To be honest I was disappointed to read the OP which is apparently condoning this. The fact that he is a high earner is no excuse, quite the opposite in fact. And the argument that he contributes to society through entertainment is particularly puzzling, it is entirely subjective and impossible to measure. Besides, I don't see teachers and emergency services fiddling their taxes. But I do believe that the ultimate problem lies with the law - as BrandNewGuy says, if we cannot rely on people to voluntarily do the right thing for society (we can't), then it has to be enforced. -
Yamaha and Roland are considered to be very good. The individual model depends on your budget, what features you need, and whether you have any aesthetic requirements. You could get a basic ?500 job and it would probably be absolutely fine. A higher end one would give you nicer key action, more accurate samples, better speakers, wider selection of sounds (e.g. strings and orchestral as well as the basic piano1/piano2/harpsichord/etc), multi-track recording, and will probably look a bit more piano-like.
