Let's face it, this thread was a ticking timebomb from the very first post. -
Does anybody have any examples of a converted multi-storey carpark which could serve as inspiration? It would be nice to see it converted into a useful and pleasant space, although I imagine it would be a huge project. Franks is good, the exhibition is interesting in it's own way (although I have not visited this year). But the building is just about the most uninviting place I've ever been to.

If only they'd consulted the East Dulwich Forum. With all the experts on here, we can have avoided this whole mess. -

I think you have to get 3 courses (it's a fixed price menu). Maybe around ?170 with a cheaper wine, if you want aperitifs and coffees. Definitely a "special occasion" place, but possibly the best food in south London.

If a bank has total deposits of ?10, it can lend out a total of ?9. If that ?9 is paid into another bank, then the second bank can lend out ?8.10. etc. -

I think it would have been rather patronising for them to use wheelchairs. In no way does sitting in a wheelchair for 5 minutes let you experience what it is really like. I think it's good that they're trying to raise the profile of paralympic sports, disappointing that people are putting a negative spin on it because you don't like them as politicians.

rahrah, I don't think a Northern Line branch to SE London was ever on the cards at all, so I don't get where you're coming from. It's a mistake to think that the new Battersea service is being built instead of an SE London route. It's simply not the case. Now a Bakerloo line extension... I don't think it will happen any time soon, but at least the discussion has some basis in reality. Even a Victoria Line extension would seem more likely than the Northern Line coming to SE London. Medley Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's there for Crossrail, Thameslink, new trains > on the H&C, Met, Victoria, Circle, District lines, > resignalling the Jubilee line, the Overground > extensions - it's there alright, it's just that no > one's got the ducks in a row to get it into > Southwark! Crossrail is of vital importance to the Olympics (and links Heathrow the the City) so again, has an economic incentive - and is for the greater good of London. The other projects you mention are all surely a lot cheaper than a Bakerloo extension (even the Overground uses mainly existing track, no new tunnels AFAIK). I'd personally love a tube line down here, but being objective, there's no economic incentive, no private investment in the area, limited public funds, and there's no current (or forecast) issue of capacity. -

What can I say? Building underground railways is an expensive business. The money just isn't there at the moment. -

It was a low blow, I admit. But I do personally know people who have moved to Singapore or Hong Kong specifically to avoid tax. If you had other reasons, then I apologise. But your statement "who can I rob to fill it again" to me strongly implies a dislike of taxation in principle. It riled me. And it is natural to make assumptions about people based on what they post on here. Being abusive to underline a point is a popular tactic amongst some posters on here, but I do not consider myself to be one of them, so I will try to refrain from doing so in the future. -

You're frustrated that new areas trump established ones? That's just not logical! Without the necessary transport, there will be no redevelopment at Battersea Power Station. Besides, TfL didn't decide to do this as an alternative to a Bakerloo line extension to SE London. The two things are not related. There is private funding for the Northern Line extension. There isn't any for a Bakerloo extension. -

Who know's what's right for the community? You'd hope the government would have a reasonable idea. Avoiding tax certainly isn't a good start, but alas it is the norm. It really is a shame that you think of taxation as robbery. And it's a shame there are people who don't value the welfare state, to the extent that they choose to opt out by moving to an authoritarian state thousands of miles away. We're never going to agree on this one... -

Singing talent, maybe (I don't watch the show). Songwriting talent? Who knows, but even if he did then the X Factor certainly won't showcase that.

Battersea has no tube. East Dulwich has no tube. Battersea is having a huge mutli-billion pound development including shops, offices, housing. East Dulwich is not. Pointless discussion.
