  1. tllm2 - what's wrong with the one in your link?

The tumblers had plenty of critics when the pub opened (as well as a few fans who liked the euro-rustic style), but the pub stuck to their guns.
  3. I think it would look like a disgusting old car park with trees sticking out of it. I would much rather it was demolished.
  4. This has been covered in some depth on these pages before. Scott was determined that they were not going to change their policy. Just don't go back if the tumblers upset you. There are plenty of other options nearby.
  5. I can just imagine the "save our playgroud" campaign when the site is finally ready for development
  6. I'd certainly like a train that avoided South Bermondsey... being crushed in a train packed full of lairy Millwall supporters is no fun!
  7. Well when the government actually come out and say that they are less likely to bail out banks in the future... and start taking steps to prevent the need to do so (i.e. all this talk of breaking up the big banks)... a downgrade in rating is understandable. I do take your point about RBS and Lloyds though, in practise we would have no choice but to continue to prop them up.

  9. Mensa is shit. The only Mensa members I've known have been borderline retarded.

Huh... I used to live on CPR. One of my first experiences was getting grief from my neighbour for parking in "her" space! Unbelievable!
  11. Marmora Man, I'm sure we were all sad to hear the news of his death. But some of the tributes appearing on Twitter/Facebook are so over-the-top, I feel some balance is required. That is all.
  12. Saw a great one on FB earlier... "Steve Jobs has transformed our lives"...

Couldn't agree more, Ted. I don't have a problem with people wanting a nice looking phone/computer, and I have absolutely no problem with a succesful business that cashes in on image-conscious consumers. I just don't happen to be image-conscious! I have a macbook - mainly because the software I wanted isn't available for the PC - and it is a good machine. But over-priced.

  15. Mockney has a point, most of their current products are overpriced. You're paying a lot for the aesthetics. Doesn't mean they're not good products though - and often quite innovative.
  16. I would have thought that any basement room would need thorough waterproofing, regardless of geology and water tables. Digging out a cellar to make a proper room is very, very expensive - but just tanking out an existing cellar for storage should be affordable.
  17. If the brief was to find an album which brought mainstream attention following relative obscurity... none of the 9th or 6th albums listed count, and neither do many of the 3rds!!
  18. I don't see what your problem is, camberwell70. Yes they would try to run, but if a security guard is trying to detain a criminal, they will of course fight back, rather than get handed in to the police.
  19. What a bizarre rant, Huguenot! Italy has a realistic rating, it would be inaccurate to suggest that they are just as able to repay their debts as Germany or France. Remember - plenty of people having been citing optimistic ratings as a contributing factor towards the credit crunch in the first place.

You'd expect it from The Sun or Fox News... I was (probably naively) surprised the BBC/Guardian/Telegraph/etc have stooped so low.
  21. None of us know... I was surprised to see mockney basically proclaiming that he thinks she's guilty! I have been a bit shocked by the blanket coverage. It seems that even the reputable media outlets are not immune from a bit of sensationalism.
  22. "Hatred of foreigners"??
  23. Yeah... seriously unnecessary criticism from Kapt.Kopter, who owes the OP an apology in my opinion.
  24. I don't think it's wise to consider making a fast buck when buying a home. There are no guarantees. Choose an area and house you'd like to live in.
