  1. Quite! Maybe Mayweather will fancy the Pacquiao fight now?
  2. Lunch/afternoon, fair game for families/kids. Evenings should be for adults only. Doesn't that pretty much sum it up?
  3. I don't think it's a cash point scam. It could be a place where you used your card a few weeks ago.

Well... you got some serious answers at the beginning, before the thread went down the inevitable route of pointless bickering.

Ooh, I love it when people refer to musicians by their surname! It makes you sound like such an expert... in a Patrick Bateman meets Harry Enfield sort of way. Anyway, nobody is denying that "Wonder" had some great moments, but not everybody likes all of his songs! Deal with it!

And I would suggest that Celine Dion and Joan Osbourne are probably more your sort of scene! All the soppy nonsense you can handle - knock yourself out. Now shut it! (actually... I don't mind The Smiths as it goes...)

I don't think I've ever been flown by a female pilot.

Maybe it's because I have a short attention span, maybe because I look for quite specific qualities in music... but I rarely listen to an album in its entirety. Even when I was growing up with vinyl and tapes, I wouldn't sit through a song which I wasn't keen on. And this is particularly true of Stevie Wonder - no matter what heights he reaches, you know there's a dull ballad or some nonsense about god coming up in a few minutes.

That's probably the worst place to start, and in no way guarantees schmaltz-free listening. Some of his best songs were album tracks... You Met Your Match, Do Yourself a Favour, All Day Sucker, etc. But I don't think I could listen to any of his albums all the way through without having to skip at least a couple of tracks.
  14. Quickest way to Vauxhall is along Loughborough Road.
  15. Driving to the station - I suspect that the people who do this mainly live a 20min walk or so to the nearest station... potentially Underhill Rd sort of area. You may think it's lazy, but people are going to do it anyway. It's the downside you have to factor in, when you have unrestricted parking. I would probably do it too if I didn't live near the station. I don't think people would drive in from out of town to use ED station, they'd be more likely to go somewhere like Surrey Quays, with a tube and plenty of parking. Love the suggestions to call the Police - but are you sure it's not a matter for MI5? Should the military get involved?

I do like Stevie Wonder... but honestly, I can't listen to any of the albums all the way through, because I just can't stand the schmaltzy songs. The idea of an album as a complete body of work that should be listened to as a whole, has always struck me as rather silly and pretentious. Even before CDs, I never listened to music in that way.
  17. Maybe it's time to hijack the Mixed Football, or Inequality In Britain threads!! Unfortunately I don't think this fight is winnable for JMM, the main point of interest is to see whether Pacquiao can beat him more emphatically than Mayweather did.
  18. Not every weekend, but a significant proportion of them, and over a period of several years. I am 100% sure it is not just a matter of routine maintenance to keep people safe, I've never experienced another line with the same level of outages. I actually suspect it's related to the new London Overground extension, which will require connecting a new spur to the line somewhere around the Queens Rd Peckham area. Obviously a big job. But that doesn't explain 7 years (or whatever) of intermittent weekend service.
  19. Hasn't it been in there for ages?
  20. It sounds as though you did nothing wrong - if you appeal, it should be overturned. If you still have the ticket you bought, you should be fine. Even better if you have a photo of the ticket displayed in your window! If the appeal is rejected, do not worry. They will give you a date for a hearing, but the council don't usually bother contesting it, so you win by default without even having to turn up.
  21. Ladygooner - I expect maintenance to be carried out overnight, and on occasional weekends! Not regular outages for the whole weekend, spanning several years!! It's unacceptable that many of us have paid in advance for a service which we are not receiving.
  22. Good. Maybe I'll be able to buy a house then.

  24. Governments don't trust "the market" either, which is why we don't have a pure market economy. Silverfox, I'm afraid you are being rather naive... allowing people not to pay off their debts would cause havoc in the economy which would far outweigh any peripheral release of cash.
  25. I've lived in ED for around 9 years, train closures on the weekend have been regular for at least 7 of those years, and has been particularly bad for the last 4 years or so. And people stil wonder why local residents feel they need to own cars... It looks like Denmark Hill to London Bridge is also out of action, although Denmark Hill to Victoria will be running.
