  1. Maybe move it inside after midnight. Then perhaps turn the music down/off at 2am. You need a bit of consideration on one side, and a bit of tolerance (within reason) on the other.
  2. I'd be tempted to just fix the mechanics, and sell it with the dents and scrapes. You might get something like ?300 for it, and it should still last a few years yet (it's not that old... I have a T reg car which is still perfectly roadworthy).
  3. They're a nasty, violent bunch of right-wing extremists. If you don't think that's a problem, you're either stupid, or your own views are abhorrent.
  4. What about someone who's home has increased in value several times over? They didn't ask for it, and they may possibly never benefit from it. They may be forced out of their home because of the crippling and unfair tax. I think the concept is so flawed, and would prove so profoundly unpopular, that thankfully we will never need to debate this seriously!
  5. James, that would be great if that is the case.

Not smug in the slightest, maybe somebody will read this and learn from it. Good to hear that you're OK.

  8. Absolutely daft. How many combinations of coffee/water/milk to people need?
  9. I have reservations. It would be OK if we had this in addition to countdown displays at bus stops, but I believe that this is being pushed as a cheaper alternative. Muggers looking to steal phones already target bus stops, this is hardly going to help the problem. And of course, not everybody has a web-enabled phone.
  10. If they only do it once/twice a year I'd be inclined to let it drop (although 4:30am does seem rather selfish).
  11. *Bob* is indeed a one-man economic think tank of the Marxism?Leninism persuasion. He is currently penning a rock-opera on the very subject. (rock-op-umentary?)
  12. Do you have a normal aerial going into the lounge? If so, you could just connect a freeview box to that, and then use an AV sender to transmit the output to the other room. You'd have to go back into the lounge to change channel though (unless you could hook up an infa-red blaster... getting a big complicated though). The slingbox is an interesting suggestion, but is really designed for watching over the internet on a computer. Honestly, your best bet is to do it properly and get a new aerial socket installed in the other room. You should be able to find someone who will do a neat job for a reasonable price (maybe ?100 or so).

  14. ED probably peaked in my estimation a few years ago, but the demise of Inside 72 and the arrival of Adventure Bar was something of a tipping point. (I still quite like it here though).
  15. Bob's a regular fountain of economic knowledge.
  16. In my old office, the canteen used to do a half roast chicken, in some sort of barbecue marinade. It was an enjoyable lunchtime treat - until someone said it looked like a dead baby dragged from a fire.
  17. I wasn't really talking about individual people, literally changing the area singlehandedly. More the kind of mentality behind posts like "why can't we replace Iceland with a Waitrose", or "why can't we knock down the ugly flats on ... road".
  18. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And let's not forget that the prompt corrective > action law was passed in large part to prevent > such a subsidy!! Indeed - let us not. It is remarkable that the system, the phrase, and the law have disappeared from the coverage of the banking crises.
  19. I think you're the first person I've ever encountered who identifies themself as a yuppie! While I don't share DF's overtly negative opinion of the gentrification of ED, I do have reservations. I don't like the idea of people moving here and hoping/trying to change it, and I certainly don't like the suggestion that people should move away if they don't like what the area has become.
  20. I was going to suggest a TV, a VCR, and a pack of video tapes. All available from freecycle!
  21. Isn't there a YouTube app? (I don't use iphone/ipad, but assume there must be?)
  22. Yes, Snorky is/was huncamunca. I always thought he seemed something of a paradox, given that he appeared to be an art dealer and property investor. He's probably normal in real-life, but liked to come on here to vent his supressed distaste of modern society.

    PIZZA

Gowlett pizzas are very nice, but the base is so light/thin... they don't actually fill me up. Maybe I just need to get two of them.

And glad you turned the spelling scrambler down a notch.
