  1. LadyDeliah, are you suggesting something which will just give the kids a good understanding of the legal system, or a formal education leading to qualifications? It sounds like an excellent idea, but you may hit a brick wall if they don't already have a good level of basic literacy.

Any species without strong instincts for survival and procreation wouldn't last long! It's pure natural selection. The lack of a higher purpose or afterlife doesn't mean that your actions don't matter, it just helps you to focus on the things that matter to you during your short time. Perhaps in this age of environmental concern (amongst other things), our legacy is more important than ever?
  3. Not exactly a riot. Sounds like the guy is in genuine need of help.
  4. No trains again. At least we can still get from PR/DH to Victoria. God knows what we'll do after that route is closed - sitting on a bus for an hour isn't an attractive option.

I disagree, there are always plenty of apple products in there - they usually seem to have 10+ ciders on draught alone.
  6. I already said - not all ED residents shop on LL. Many of the shops on LL cater to a narrow demographic in terms of products and pricing.

Damian, not everyone in SE22 is white, middle class, and shops in Lordship Lane boutiques. There are large council blocks at either end of the main road. My neighbours (in both my current and previous addresses) have been of varying ethnicities and had varied occupations. I think you have an inaccurate impression of the local area.
  8. edresi10 - I stand by my belief that we should be tough on criminals. I just think the arguments against the centre moving to East Dulwich are motivated purely by self interest. Craig83 - Thanks for removing your homophobic "joke", it could have offended someone. And I can assure you that SJ doesn't have a "thing" for me, his views are often quite different to mine... but at least he's thought them through.

  10. I think I should avoid the forum for a few days. The riots seem to have attracted a bunch of fuckwits.

  13. Surely the emissions thing is a red herring, there won't be any extra buses or trains laid on just for this.
  14. As Otta said, nobody wants it as such. In an ideal world, such facilities would not have to exist at all. But it has to go somewhere, and it just seems self centred to campaign against it. It also seems strange to suggest that after reporting in, the youths will stick around to harass mums and young kids at the swings over the road.
  15. What exactly was the aim of this "petition"?
  16. sfhyouthforum - would you care to elaborate?
  17. There are all sorts of people living in East Dulwich and the surrounding areas.

It's good to have a mixture of opinions, but some people who have materialised recently just make me want to bang my head against the wall.
  20. Is he making a gun shape with his right hand... and pointing it at the bag of rice??
  21. david - my thoughts exactly. Let's not pretend he was an innocent victim.
  22. It is pretty shocking that the early info from the police was so inaccurate, have they not learned anything from the past? It would probably be better if they just shut up, and released the facts when they become clear. Early reports from the officers present could be unreliable for all sorts of reasons.
  23. > If 100,000 sign it it will be discussed in Parliament. Then we're just wasting the politician's time, and diverting their attention away from genuine answers. > It would probably have a bit more cred if the author used his spell check. No, it wouldn't. We shouldn't even be discussing this on here... it's just silly.
  24. I certainly don't agree with everything the OP says, but I do agree that (relative) poverty is used as an excuse too often, when the bigger issues are poor parenting and complete lack of aspirations.
  25. benmorg Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't think so. While there was an element of that (I've heard reports of kids dropped off by BMW SUVs and going after high-value electircal goods), I'm sure this was the minority. Most of the pictures I've seen have been of kids taking trainers, clothes, booze, games... obviously for personal consumption. It was quiet last night because they knew police numbers were increasing, and they probably wouldn't get away with it this time.
