My comment which you are referring to was an obviously (or so I thought) sarcastic response to another poster who was claiming that the protests are politically motivated. As you say, they aren't. It's just kids - most of them too young to even have a job - who think it's fun to smash stuff up and steal beer from Tescos.

Indian restaurant recommendations - London bridge area?
Jeremy replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
London Bridge Tandoori is possibly the least inviting restaurant in London! -

I have it on good authority that many of the rioters were concerned that the new Basel III regulations don't go far enough to ensure that banks hold adequate capital reserves.

I agree that it was predictable. I guess it was only a matter of time before someone tried to link this to "the bankers".

I think it's really irresponsible to start spreading rumours about him being pinned down, shot at point blank, etc. Especially coming from somebody who (I think) works in the legal profession.

Huguenot has quite clearly been on the sauce....

I'm just pointing out that whereas you're obviously concerned by his intentions, I'm only really concerned about the consequences. Which appear to be minimal. > The fact is that some intellectually challenged > arse brain is aiming to take away your choices. > There's no more important fight. I disagree with you there. A more important fight would be one where somebody who actually wielded significant power/influence was aiming to take away our choices.

I'm not too bothered about the "restriction of choice" argument. Any restaurant that removes it from the menu obviously agrees with Thomas' campaign - if they didn't, they'd keep serving it. It's not been on the menu in Franklins whenever I've eaten there, anyway. Beauberry House is a moot point as they don't actually have any customers.

I was assuming that the young hipsters would look for things like bars/clubs, art, live music, interesting places to eat, etc. Although I can see the attraction of drawing on the portakabins, and not to mention the tent on top of the multi-storey serving campari and fish. So now that Peckham is so obviously pass? (even the Americans are in on it), where next? Penge?

I'm not in the least offended/bothered my LadyDeliah's various tales. But I can't help thinking that if a bloke posted something equivalent, people would assume he was a shallow, egotistical twit.

I agree, it does sound great - but I'm curious to find out what these interesting things are...

Chicken satay is lovely on a barbecue... marinade chunks of chicken thigh (not breast) with soy sauce, honey (or peanut butter), garlic, chilli. Make a dip from chopped peanuts, oil, lime juice, honey, soy sauce. Or "tandoori" lamb chops - marinade them in yoghurt, garam masala, chilli, garlic, ginger and lemon juice.

malumbu, why would anyone from Bromley park in Honor Oak to catch a train into London, when there is more free parking than you can shake a stick at in Canada Water? Also, even as a resident of a road, you have no right to tell people not to park there. Congested roads are one of the downsides of living near good transport connections. By all means, campaign for parking restrictions.

Me too. Even with napkins and cutlery.

37 Bus Route - good and bad comments please

37 Bus Route - good and bad comments please
Jeremy replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A couple of people have mentioned countdown timers. I agree this would be great, however, I remember James saying that they weren't planning to install these in the future, as the council are in favour of a cheaper SMS notification system instead (despite the number of phone thefts that already occur at bus stops). -
I think StraferJack is right, the number of low bridges and tunnels would rule out double decker trains. Actually I have been on a couple of double decker trains in Europe - there were no seatbelts, and some passengers still had to stand. As others have said, there are relatively few train accidents compared with car crashes, it is an inherently safer way to travel. And buses usually travel at low speed (but coaches have to have seatbelts fitted).

Mugged on Forest Hill Road on the 25th July at 5pm
Jeremy replied to bjm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There's a HUGE difference between saying "be careful where you use your phone", and "you were asking to be mugged". I would have to question the intelligence of anyone who doesn't understand the difference. You can either accept that there are some nasty people out there looking to steal you phone/bike/car/wallet, and take sensible precautions, or you can carry on as before in an act of defiance. Either way, a victim of theft is still a victim... but I suspect it's more likely to happen to the latter group. Your own choice. -

"the plinky plonky stuff" could encompass your modern jazz, free jazz, avant-garde, styles. I believe the "slap bass/naff synth/wanky utterance" stuff Mockney was referring to would fall into the "fusion" bracket... as peddled by the rather irritating Courtney Pine, or even Miles Davis in his later career.

I think it's too expensive, but plenty of others seem happy to pay it.
