  1. Sorry titch, I seem to have beaten you to it. But you have the entire NOFX back catalogue to choose from, so why not give it another go?

  5. Thanks for the info on the concrete house. It seems as though the process has not moved along as far as some of us would have hoped, but at least it sounds like Southwark are trying. An update on the block at the far south-east of the dog kennel hill estate would be useful, if you can find that out. Also the derelict council flats on the corner of Pytchley Rd and Bromar Rd (this is technically Camberwell, but I was told that it falls under the same project as the DKH estate renovations).

I would agree with this in principle... and the graph is quite interesting, it shows that even when there's growth it is often followed by further contraction. Do you think it's a coincidence that the two obvious "double dips" are the earlier recessions, while the more recent ones don't really follow the same pattern?

No no... not arsey at all. Most people feel the same way. Nobody likes the idea of their tax being used to prop up a struggling company, with no perceived benefit to the public. I just hope that the banking stocks (and the economy in general) rebound enough to justify the huge debts we've taken on. Anyway... we're treading old ground here... over and out.

The recent recession could (should?) have been totally avoidable IMO. But to say the banking industry is pointless is not accurate. Loans/mortages, banks accounts, savings, pensions, insurance... enabling companies (and governments) to raise funds, invest, manage risk... quite important stuff, really.

Something to do with a fire by the track somewhere... or something like that...

There is - I take it every morning! But to be honest it only takes a couple of minutes less than other trains, so in the context of a typical journey... not really significant.
  17. Spent quite a while negotiating a series of lifts, staircases, pitch black corridors, and ramps. That place is a veritable labyrinth... just as you think you're making progress towards your goal, you find that the lift isn't operational - entrails hanging from the vacant control panels - or the door at the end of the corridor is locked. We frequently had to retrace our steps and try something different. It was made all the more exciting with the knowledge that if we were murdered, nobody would hear our screams (actually, there's a good chance nobody would have found our bodies either). We eventually found our way up to the bar, only to find that it was a "private party", so we had to leave. But we did get a chance to briefly check out the dubious art.
  18. Corridor? We dreamed of having a corridor!

Isn't that what they all do? Diving and play-acting at every opportunity? Not very dignified, is it?
  24. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So? Why can?t a men?s team have a female coach? I don't see any problem with a female coach either, but they'd need to prove themselves at the top level of men's football before becoming national coach. I don't watch much football, but from what I have seen, there is still a significant difference in quality - not to mention the pace of the game - between mens and womens football.
  25. I think that's pretty much spot-on... there's as much nonsense in the guardian as there is in any other paper. But while I often get a pissed off with some of the articles in there, it's nowhere near as infuriating as the biased reports on immigration/housing/benefits you sometimes see - particularly in the tabloids. The article is a bit daft really, and rather sensationalist. I'm sure the journalist responsible for it doesn't for a second think that it will ever happen. But I guess it's always healthy to question accepted wisdom.
