His actual bakery was behind the row of shops oppostite the Harvester and he had about 5 shops in all, including one in Dulwich Village and the one that is now Hirsts. When he retired the shops I think were sold off separately - I am not sure there was a "Sainsburys' factor" - or not much of one anyway. It's just thee quality dipped...

Well there's an excellent baker in Herne Hill.....and *lots* of outlets on LL allegedly selling either organic or "quality" bread - EDD, the Patisserie, the Cheeseblock, Chandelier, Budgens, Somerfields, Badger Bakery etc etc

Cash transactions are traditional with bucthers' shops I think - and the vast majority of WR customers know it's a cash place and prepare themselves accordingly beforehand. And if the lovely guys and women at WR really were habitually abusive then there must an awful lot of people around ED well into that kind of thing..... I've nothing against the guy with the van on NCR - he was of course there before WR opened their shop - but I'd be amazed if he could make that pay 6 days a week....
