  1. >>Someone mentioned a good bakers in Herne hill,if its the Kindred bakery<< It was I who mentioned the good Herne Hill bakery and yes I did mean Kindred! I hope they bring some baguettes along....and flapjacks...:))
  2. An old git writes:- Simon & Garfunkel at Manchester Odeon in 1968...but years before that my mother and grandmother took us to see Adam Faith and Emile Ford & The Checkmates (google them! years ahead of their time!) in Stockton-on-Tees (don't ask..) Many many years later I used to see Adam Faith in "Tea-Time" near Clapham Common and marvelled how short he was off-stage and sans mohair suit...
  3. >>Gotta be Fabio Capello hasn't it?<< Nah....'Arry Rednapp innit? Would I wet up your leg?!
  4. >>I know it's supposed to be satire, but not sure I can tell if this is or not<< Had me hooting with laughter anyway - I especially loved the "Reg Hollis" reference..
  5. So England will now play Croatia twice again in the World Cup qualifiers...I bet they win both games too! :))
  6. >>By the way, there used to be 3 or 4 bakeries - Place Bakeries - up the Lane, and one by one they shut, largely the >>Sainsbury's factor I think.<< Mr Place retired - if I recall correctly he lived in a house at the junction of Mount Adon Park and Lordship Lane. His actual bakery was behind the row of shops oppostite the Harvester and he had about 5 shops in all, including one in Dulwich Village and the one that is now Hirsts. When he retired the shops I think were sold off separately - I am not sure there was a "Sainsburys' factor" - or not much of one anyway. It's just thee quality dipped...
  7. Well there's an excellent baker in Herne Hill.....and *lots* of outlets on LL allegedly selling either organic or "quality" bread - EDD, the Patisserie, the Cheeseblock, Chandelier, Budgens, Somerfields, Badger Bakery etc etc
  8. >>I love having Tuesdays off work so I can do my Duchess of East Dulwich act when everyone else is at work....<< I did wonder who that bird in the tiara was promenading up and down LL...:))
  9. >>And Leeds got knocked out of the Cup by Hereford on Tuesday night<< I was so tempted to commisserate with you for being knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy a couple of weeks back too...

    >>Tsk, the standard of tying in ED is obviously in decline, unless the area has recently developed its own dialect.<< Had the wrong glasses on dammit....:-$
  11. >>Oh well, only a game of footie. Nobody died<< Tsk! Go and wash your mouth out. :)) As the venerable and wise sage St William of Anfield famously decreed..."Football is not a matter of life and death - it is far more important than that". I had high hopes of us winning the whole thing had we scraped through last night, on the ground that mediocre teams can win the Euro....see Greece last time out for example. Croatia played better than us in both games. The only bit of real class last night from England was Beckham's cross and Crouch's finish... Anyway, spilt milk etc...

It is almost certainly option (a) - I suspect thar there are far more people who would agree with this point of view than there are grumpy naysayers :)) Anyway, what one might term the "Osborune Stewart Technique", if such does not amount to libel, seems to be based wholly on knocking copy... B)
  13. >>Could Joni Mitchell be the songwriter that you are looking for?<< Or possibly this chappy? :)) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RqdYBT-b2aI
  14. Who's going to be brave enough to ask a guy in a bloodied apron with a cleaver in his hand if they have been following this thread though? :))
  15. Wonder what the odds are of Eduardo getting the first goal...?
  16. >>Don't know if this was at all aimed at me,<< Absolutely not!
  17. >>Every time I walk past there appears to be a mass of them on their computers and no actual customers... now it could >>> Nope. Same when I pass them too...empty chairs at the front, chaps at keyboards looking listless at the back. It's nice to catch up with the latest news on Sky though....:))
  18. >>Cards don't take any more time than cash with chip and pin machines<< C & P machines would not really be practical in WR because, on Saturdays at least, they have 9 (or more?) people serving and, in order to keep the queue moving at its usual swift pace, you'd need at least 9 machines - which would clutter up the place no end. Cash transactions are traditional with bucthers' shops I think - and the vast majority of WR customers know it's a cash place and prepare themselves accordingly beforehand. And if the lovely guys and women at WR really were habitually abusive then there must an awful lot of people around ED well into that kind of thing..... I've nothing against the guy with the van on NCR - he was of course there before WR opened their shop - but I'd be amazed if he could make that pay 6 days a week....

    Guinness Red

Do they still sell "BDG"*? I remember buying it in 6 packs in Ireland to being home with me, complete with the little plastic syringe which you made the "head" I think the only way Guinness can be improved is to be drinking it in a dockside pun in Dingle, accompanied by a plate of locally smoked salmon and slices of buttered home-made soda bread.... SimonM * ^Bottled Draught Gunnesss"
  21. >>Littlest hobo<< You mean the "New" series from the 70's.80's I presume rather than the orignal 60's one? I was intrpgued to find that collections of both are available on DVD abd have been sorely tempted...
  22. >>sorry, that was mean.<< Yes....but ask yourself what the Scots would have been like if Russia had beaten Israel and Scotland had beaten Italy..:))
  23. >>And who remembers Keith the barber on NCR?)<< I do! (& his sign spelt it "Kieth") SimonM
  24. I'll second that - and presumably they're having to work that much harder now with people having to collect all these phantom deliveries?
  25. Agreed! That "foul" from which Italy got their winner was an appaling decision...
