  1. Quite, Nette. Legs or boobs, Tulisa. Craig's through? Hmm.
  2. Here we go with the sob fest! I'm quite relaxed about who goes, there were so many yesterday who were a bit ordinary, karaoke-stylee. I like Marcusthehairdresser and Misha B (Misha to win?). The Risk and the girl group were quite good too. I don't think Jonny will go, don't they fix it so the comedy crap acts stay in for a few rounds? Edited for rubbishosity.
  3. 16. Packing a sleeping bag. I'd be interested to know whether the Guardian were making a point by picking the most obscure questions they could or whether they're genuinely representative of the test. If they are representative, it's an outrageous cheat on the people made to take it. Knowing roughly what % of the population is Muslim is relevant but knowing whether it's 4.2% or 1.6% is irrelevant. Ditto between 13 and 16 million young people, the first year a woman could divorce her husband... rubbish. Bah.
  4. Have your cake and eat it would probably be better expressed as keep your cake and eat it, because that's what you can't do. I like the idea of a voluntary register of "good landlords", kind of along the eBay model where you get ratings from your counterparties. There could be a code of conduct around for example consideration re: inspections, time to conduct repairs and so on. I don't remember anyone expressing an irrational hatred of tenants, though.
  5. Yee-ha for single parents - you're amazing, and you don't get told nearly often enough. Great thread, nicolemodesti.
  6. And to make it comparable, you'd need to incorporate costs for service charge, insurances and repairs.
  7. Definitely 31st, but we've had callers from about 5pm to about 10, gradually gettig larger and bloodier.
  8. That is very true, and the books don't really need to be read in chronological order. I did like the Colour of Magic though, when I read it back in the day-think he's written 6 or so at that time.
  9. I posted a response this morning which was as inappropriate in language as I find lilly's postings in sentiment. So I am removing it, but I still say that it is extremely offensive to wish someone to be in trouble and for no-one to help. That is, at best, a huge misunderstanding of what karma means, and I would refer the poster to some of the responses Buddhist scholars made to Sharon Stone when she made her unfortunate remarks about China's earthquake. I would be very happy to see the remark withdrawn.
  10. I wouldn't mind the tumblers as such if one didn't suspect they use them for the same reason I use tumblers for wine at home - a whole load easier to wash up.
  11. I think The Colour Of Magic was the first Discworld book.
  12. Salsaboy, isn't that a woman wearing the Davy Jones look? I think it has to be disallowed on that count.
  13. Bang goes any sympathy I may ever have had for lilly and her cause. Didn't take long for a pretty nasty side to emerge. lilly123 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > red evil i dont think that is at all > funny, obviousley you do? i hope you and marmora > man come back as a animal in your next life, it is > sad a animal can not speak for them self, and i > guess you both think this is a joke, animals have > feelings, unlike some humans, and i just pray that > one day that either of you do not need the help of > the public, because you will certainly not get my > help, yes i do have a dog not marnie and she > saved my daughter life when she was fitting, still > i guess you will find this funny as well. You both > need to get a life and as i say i just hope that > one day you both do need help and there is no one > to assist either of you. KARMAAAAA.
  14. I'm firmly in the 'what a shame, great man' camp. Perhaps I was just lucky in that I don't use Twitter and all I saw on Facebook were simple comments expressing sadness. But in spite of myself my lips twitched at the Mash headline: 'Can We Get Flash Now, Ask Apple Owners'
  15. Well said, Marmora Man.
  16. Astonished that anyone thinks they enhance a landscape. Really?? They are starkly beautiful in themselves, but entirely dominate any countryside they appear on and swamp the view. I'd call them a necessary evil.
  17. For those of you that are miffed with me for sniping at them, let me clarify. The American comment was a response to maxxi's post on p1. The guilty by virtue of pretty was perhaps inflated by Bob's comedy posts but there were enough posts that simultaneously dribbled and condemned to make me uncomfortable. Good to hear that it was all in irony though, that makes it all OK. Marvy.
  18. Good to see the mood on the thread changing - the first few posts seemed to be convicting Knox on the grounds of being a saucepot (sexy female - stamp!) and an American (evil Westerner), which was bizarre. The evidence against her was shaky to say the least. I agree very much with Simon M.
  19. I guess that's what eyelids are for.
  20. See, now I remember why I get annoyed by this programme, now that it's sucked me in, and it's too late. The stoopid decisions, chucking good singers in favour of telegenic tosswipes. And the fact that I find myself caring either way. Oh, and Louis' sunglasses.
  21. silverfox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you have to postulate 11 dimensions in order to > explain the possibilbily of multiple universes you > have a serious problem. I think the difficulty may simply be that you don't understand, so you think it must be nonsense.
  22. What is it with boys and pork pie hats? I'd like to know too.
  23. I did too, and I know a few people who've moved there in the last few years, with kids. Apparently an incredibly family-friendly place. It's also absolutely tiny so you'll see your other half pdq after he leaves work. If you are thinking of working too, it's a great place for professional women - very meritocratic. Happy to discuss.
  24. Otta, laughter!! This is rather embarrassing, but mine's a Christmas carol, ahem. In Once In Royal David's City, there's a verse that goes:- Day by day, like us, he grew; He was little, weak, and helpless, Tears and smiles, like us he knew;
  25. Post of the year, vesti. Thank you.
