Cat Epidemic (stop them going in my garden)
Moos replied to Mabel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Happy squirting, bob. Curious about the lemon slice on your lawn tho....have you got alcoholic daisies or was one of your gnomes having a G&T? -
You are most welcome sir, though if I may say so you do a fine job without my help.
-
Don't you young Moos me, you whippersnapper. I remember when you were born.

Maybe RosieH is talking about the devil-may-care I'll-be-coming-back-for-you-later-darling glint in the man's eye? Yeah, those colonials. Don't wear nearly enough tweed, do they d_c? The short suit is a hideous embarrassment, I'm not even sure I like the ones that they started selling for women a couple of years ago.

Hi Lindylou Have you seen Nutty's thread in the Wanted section? He's offering IT skills, not sure if that's any good to you. (Honaloochie B, I appreciate that bringing in the 'Wanted' section after your bank robbery comment is setting 'em up for you to knock down, but I'm trying to give Lindylou at least one helpful reply here...)

In which case "on her high horse" would be interesting.

Childminder is usually a parent, who looks after another baby/child as well as his/her own, in his/her own house. Nanny will come to your house to look after your child(ren), unless you have a nanny share in which case the nanny will look after the kids of more than one family, again in their own houses. Both are semi-regulated: have a look at SureStart for more information. In terms of notice periods, nurseries generally have very long waiting lists so you can't start looking too soon. Childminders and nannies are much more about finding a personality fit, so although really good ones of course get snapped up quickly, most people seem to be able to find the right one in 3 to 5 months. And reference, reference, reference. It's not a silly question at all, there's just a huge amount of information to take on board when you have your first child. Good luck finding the right thing!

Giggling a lot at that, Mr. Administrator - your usual authoritative and stern tone lost a little something with 'and is just silly'. >:D<

Muffintop, you remember when you were at school, and you automatically hated the school down the road, 'cos it was full of stuck-up idiots/thick louts/whatever, and you always/never beat them at football (delete as appropriate)? It's like that with the EDF and Clapham. - Ooh, and sorry, hello and welcome! :-$

Live in East Dulwich and work in .....?????????
Moos replied to ratty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ooh, is it Celebrate Louise On The Forum Day today? Do we get free sausages with every mention? Am looking forward to Celebrate DulwichMum On The Forum Day (free gin) and Celebrate Azul On The Forum Day (free upside-down fish in flowerpots). -
*bursts into tears at thought of cappuccino and pain au choc* Still, am being sustained by self-made cup of tea - and at least it's free! :-)

Thanks littleEDfamily - I think it varies, perhaps the opener has to travel to work? Yesterday got a deliciously tart juice at about 5 past 7, today went past at 7.20 with my tongue hanging out, and it was still shut.

Moos replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The roof line is fascinating! Is that St. John's? I thought it was a later construction. And I think I can see the twin domes of the hospital, which again changes my assumptions on when it was built. Many thanks for these once again, MacRoban. -
When and why did ED become so poncey?
Moos replied to krosfyah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oops, sorry. And a bad man too? Must have been middle class. -

Busted. But he was working class, you know. -
The council consulted with the 'Friends of Goose Green' (self appointed group open to all) who held a couple of meetings recently in the Goose Green centre - if you go to GG regularly, you'll have seen the various notices. Minutes were published, and I believe the secretary posts here and may be able to replicate - if not, I can probably dig them up. I wasn't able to go to the meetings, but the minutes showed a wide variety of opinions - the usual concerns of parents/concerns of dog owners - which came down to a consensus to remove the fence for a trial period.

The trouble with bloody poncey East Dulwich is that there isn't enough Philip Larkin. -

Poor Sean. Sorry. -
I must be one of those 'in the middle', I guess, which means JJF hasn't got long. Just to be clear - I didn't mean to tell anyone what they can and can't find funny but only to say I was surprised that anyone wouldn't find that joke sexist. However, my post did come across as a bit stroppy since I wrote it without re-reading it, and I was just coming back to change it when I saw there was already a reply. Regardless of whether you think it's OK to post stereotype jokes, I don't think it's polite to accuse someone else of being hormonal because you don't share their point of view - and then to ignore a retraction.
-
JFC, now I'm hormonal and old! Think it's time for me to log off...
-
Wow, I was just about to edit my post (having re-read it) to say sorry, didn't mean to come across as arsey, and then read your reply. It isn't a big deal if you want to post sexist jokes and sure, a woman can find a sexist joke funny. But my point was intended to say that whether it's funny or not it's definitely sexist. So - sorry to have put an (unintentionally) stroppy post. But I do take offence at comments about time of the month. And as for 'if you don't find it funny, don't read it' that requires powers of insight I'm afraid I don't possess.
-
JJF and Sean - for what it's worth, I think this ancient joke is incredibly sexist, and not particularly funny. Not sure how you can interpret it as not sexist when our brave heroine is vain, stupid, badly co-ordinated, dizzy, careless and selfish. But humour of course is in the eye of the beholder.

Buses in East Dulwich (Lounged)
Moos replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Actually, it's Her Serene Highness Empress Moos von und zu Moos, but my friends just call me Moos... OK, I guess I started so I'll finish (although fear this thread is providing diminishing returns) Agree finding bus routes is confusing! but I meant bus fares. If you think they're confusing, maybe you should walk! I agree there are bus fare-dodgers too - of course there are - but I don't think they can say they didn't mean to dodge. Don't disagree with your 'got off on a technicality' point, though. Are teams of inspectors incentivized by the number of people they catch? I haven't been caught without fare on a bus, so I can't comment on your last but I have to admit I have twice been caught without on a train, both times through stupidity - yes, I do know the system but forgot my card had run out. Once the guy fined me ?20, and the other time he just made me pay for a single, which I thought was kind of him. -

Hi d_c Did the trader mean permanently pedestrianised or only on market days?

That reminds me, what time do they open? I go past shortly after 7 most mornings but it's still asleep.
