Never mind, little bear. I saved you some marmelade. Better check who's sleeping in your bed though. If it's Michael 'Ruddylocks' Palaeologus, just chuck him to the big bad wolf.
  2. Oh, come on boneyard, it was a fine effort! I particularly liked the touch of making the pedestrian swear in front of her children, that was very elegant.
  3. Camber is well trendy and was ready about a decade ago; it will by now have moved onto the Next Big Thing. Or two.

*winks at SeanMac* Oh dear, has TLS been in here?
  5. It's near Ted's house, PGC's house and my house, do keep up *Bob*. Do you need some coffee, or something? I think there may be some left in the Quiet Room, although God knows what Muley will have done to it by now.
  6. Our cat only ever brings in dead frogs, which is less of a problem. Those of you that don't live within cat-hunting distance of the wildlife garden won't have this problem, of course.

My marmelade is very good for you; not only nutritious and life-enhancing (best not to enquire too closely as to whose life, though) but the calories can be offset against the healthy exercise of running around the room to pin it down and get it onto your spoon.
  8. Hurray, hurray, the kingfisher's back! I have seen it a couple of times (but not in the last year or so) by the small pond in the Japanese garden, is that the one you mean? Keep us informed, PGC.

*offers the roll de bog with raised eyebrow and haughty sniff* Fancy some marmelade? That Michael Pale'n'porous doesn't know a good thing when he sees it - it's organic and hand-knitted, you know.
  10. Hi Kate Best of luck with your new job. I went back to work (part-time) when my son was 10 months old, and at 6 months I wondered how I would ever be able to leave him with someone else, as he seemed so young and small. But between 6 and 10 months, he changed hugely, becoming more independent, more mobile, more robust, and seeing him happy each day allayed my fears considerably. Perhaps you could ask whether you could 'ease in' to your new job by taking 1 day of holiday each week for the first few weeks?

Pah. My hardened 3rd-generation-Colonial gin-soaked constitution laughs at your laxative, and gives bowel uncontrol the cut direct. I continue in my customary robust health, and thank you for your good wishes.

*unrolls self from hank of carpet* *Presents tray with pot of steaming aromatic coffee, ripe nectarine, glass of chilled blood-orange juice, crunchy toast, fresh butter, home-made marmelade, single yellow rose and a small bowl of peeled almonds* Monseigner ED's breakfast is ready!
  13. How does one shame a phone? Presumably by showing it a more recent model.

    *washes almonds* *scoffs almonds* Thanks!
  15. Ooh, ooh, me too. I'm a trollop for anything almond-flavoured.

  17. Hey Quids - the Mooziz are going to check whether our houseguests fancy it / fancy buggering off and leaving us alone for an afternoon and come if either of the above is true. I'd say 50:50 at best. But I do want to come along!
  18. In this thread, we are hating Chrissy Iley.

I guess that one's for me, and yes of course there's no basis for any argument that in the future the Athenian Museum would not be as good or better than the British Museum. Plus it would also be an awful lot more convenient and satisfying for visitors to the Parthenon to be able to see the Marbles in a visit to a nearby museum. But there's no denying that to date the care of the marbles in the British Museum has been better, nor that the state of the pollution in Athens is literally melting the temples on the Akropolis.
  20. Xackly. And nor is Stonehenge British.
  21. Leave PGC alone, she'll be back with us when she's ready. So the Bilbo thing is to do with barrel-makers - maybe we can work it out between us?
  22. Hugo was pointing out that Plato was a citizen of the city-state of Athens, which was frequently at war with neighbouring city-states such as Sparta or Thebes which much later went on to become part of the Greek nation.

  24. What giggirl said. Twice.
  25. Clearly you have a trustworthy face! Poor kids.
