What road are you in? -

There was a bee nest/swarm outside Melbourne Grove Surgery the other day, on top of a bin, in a box, with a sign saying that someone was coming to deal with it. Can't imagine how it got there.

Why would you do that?

Southwark Council's Environmental Health dept. and the Fire Department deal with these. Call EH first. It it is causing a nuisance they can tell you to put it out and they also have the power to fine miscreants.

Thanks for replying Veejay. Have been researching the coastal parts of Southern England round that way. Chichester, Arundel, Worthing etc. What made you choose Ferring?

It's the ex-Kerry Katona factor that coloured Iceland's reputation. Then they had Jason Donovan and a few slebs recreating a party. I admit I never went in to Iceland until about 12 years ago when I accompanied a friend. Then when I moved closer to one I kept wandering in and discovered some very reasonable purchases. I am very picky about what I buy though. In an ideal world there would be room for everyone.

Wondered if there was just one person writing their blurb or if it's an in-house style. That alone would put me off using them.

The owner of that house posts on here.

What happened to Buen Provecho? They were around the previous two years. The queues were so bad for food that we too did not wait around.

Bigger shopping area means more streets and space, not sure what you think I meant. East Dulwich has one main rather narrow street - Lordship Lane. Not the same with Crouch End. The approach into Crouch End from Highgate (where M&S is is also much wider. At the Clock Tower the road splits......... so if you moved to ED from Crouch End it sounds like you want some sort of mini replica area? First Mate sums it up, as usual, very well.

Simple, whatever the store. You > act like M&S and those who want to shop there > aren't entitled to do business in the local area! Nowhere did I say M&S don't have the 'right' to open on LL. I am pointing out drawback to losing the carpark, asking why people feel the need to have an M&S and querying why Iceland is perceived by many to be a bad store. Just because a company has money to pay for an expensive lease doesn't mean it benefits the whole community. I do not live round the corner from Iceland so the loss of the carpark will not affect me on a daily basis - either due to noise or extra cars on the streets. It is a great and unusual amenity to have in the area though.

This is business and > consumers, nothing else. "the right to shop for what they want locally?" - which is what - any kind of produce M&S produces? who is they? I want a WholeFoods here, and a Trader Joe's store - so do I have a right to those?

East Finchley fought plans to have a Waitrose located there and were successful.

So if they work in the city why not go to the numerous M&S stores there and at train stations?

AlexC, ED has done fine without an M&S here so far. They are at motorway service stations so hardly exclusive. I am curious as to why some people are so desperate to have one here. That is all. For the record, in the past, when living/working near one I have shopped there and found myself being really disappointed by most of the food. Even if one comes here it won't have a full range of everything you might want, like the ones in Oxford Street.
