I watched some of the live show on gold a couple of nights ago and am very very glad i dodn't go to see it. It was all so cosy, and knowing and sycophantic. Everything that as far as I was concerned was the antithesis of python, of why i was mesmerised by the anarchy of it as a kid when I hired all those series on betamax. It was Python, along with Orwell, Douglas Adams, Dave Allen, who got me questioning everything i was being spoon fed. Oddbins was great when it was still an independent chain prior to the Seagrams purchase. It had a genuine ethos and passion for wine, and every new employee had to do a 3 month stint as a shop assistant regardless of the position so that wine knowledge and appreciation of the the coal face of the business percolated throughout. It did suffer as a result of the buyout and a lot of the core talent, enthuiasm and knowledge moved on to pastures new. But I always liked the brand and concept, I hope the new owners make a good stab of it.

Has any one caught Enlightened at all, a strange little Laura Dern vehicle by HBO. About a big pharma/chem exec who has a breakdown then turns a new leaf after a rather new age treatment retreat, but her new priniples don't help much when you can't escape yourself or your life. I'm actually really enjoying it, almost british style bleak comedy done with californian (nebraskan? I dunno) glow.
