  1. Just to be clear, am I a usual suspect? Does that make my Keyser Zose or one of the Baldwin brothers...i forget which?
  2. But that's not strictly true either is it. Egypt is an ally, Jordan doesn't care, Syria had grudging accommodation but wanted the Golan back (which incidentally is now being drilled for oil), but I reckon would gladly become an ally for Israeli help. Lebanon never had a problem, but Hezbollah sprung up as a resistance movement following an Israeli invasion and occupation. black and white is ALWAYS a bit grey isn't it
  3. and just in case those civilians become mere statistics.... obviously the graphic is already out of date.
  4. Not to mention there are now several thousand more people with a burning hatred, utterly traumatised, orphaned, lost sisters mothers daughters brothers and sons, who may have been moderate or simply trying to survive their shitty existence, filled with a desire for revenge. Given that this is the third cycle of violence and cease fire followed by status quo in 7 years, where is there hope for progress?
  5. "Hence my point about school massacres in the US the price people are willing to pay for gun ownership." thinking about it the oft proposed solutions curiously parallel each other, more guns being the dissonant cry.
  6. what's wrong with grasp the nettle?
  7. "They were, as far as I can see, pointing out that Hamas was as much culpable in this as Israel" Which is false, theyre not. There needs to be movement towards giving palestinians dignity and freedom. Since Oslo things have got streadily worse for the Palestinians, not better, since 2001 dramatically so, the seige of Gaza has now gone on for 7 years whilst more settlements go up, more villages buldozed, more water taken. I sincerely believe Israel has settled for managed conflict as the price it pays for the long term goal of a greater israel. Hence my point about school massacres in the US the price people are willing to pay for gun ownership. So what would you do in that situation, genuine question, go 'fair enough, wouldn't want to upset them or they'll rape my sister and it'll be my fault as everyone keeps pointing out, best accept life in an open prison and indefinite statelessness". I can only see a single state being the answer, but Israel won't go for it because it'll either have to accept that likud won't be winning any more elections (a la end of apartheid in S Africa) or it'll have to drop the pretence that its a democracy.
  8. Life of Brian is a genuine masterpiece. Holy Grail's appeal has ebbed as i grew up, though it certainly has its moments. Time Bandits was a formative moment when it came out too!!
  9. I arrived a bit late for that. By the time i was aware enough punk had already fractured into a million things though I was quite diggin P.I.L. by now, at a pinch I'd say this was around '83 when I devoured those MPFC videos. Weirdly enough just writing a best man speech for a mate who i totally bonded with during those, along with kung fu, 80s horror and of course George A Romero! That's not going in the speech though....
  10. "the sable rattling on both sides" I love the idea of sable rattling, they're so cute! http://kingsofwar.org.uk/2014/06/the-end-of-iraq-as-we-know-it/
  11. should it be 'saddoes', like tomato and potato?
  12. thank god we went to a uni that didn't have a clue about that (back then!!!!)
  13. I watched some of the live show on gold a couple of nights ago and am very very glad i dodn't go to see it. It was all so cosy, and knowing and sycophantic. Everything that as far as I was concerned was the antithesis of python, of why i was mesmerised by the anarchy of it as a kid when I hired all those series on betamax. It was Python, along with Orwell, Douglas Adams, Dave Allen, who got me questioning everything i was being spoon fed. This article has nicely summed up much of what I felt and says it better than me. http://thequietus.com/articles/15649-monty-python Those sketches in isolation, the discomfort with which Palin was delivering it, the luvvieness of the supporting singers and dancers, the whoops of the crowd, just yeauch.
  14. "East Dulwich the place for irratating full time mums taking up space in the caf?s talking about little Oscars swimming lessons. yes or no?" This is the Hello World of east dulwich trolling. Of course Hello World is never actually supposed to be used in real life, its just an intentionally purposeless example to illustrate a point. Is that it, you were metatrolling?

I'd happily see Mark Noble bossing them around.
  16. Oddbins was great when it was still an independent chain prior to the Seagrams purchase. It had a genuine ethos and passion for wine, and every new employee had to do a 3 month stint as a shop assistant regardless of the position so that wine knowledge and appreciation of the the coal face of the business percolated throughout. It did suffer as a result of the buyout and a lot of the core talent, enthuiasm and knowledge moved on to pastures new. But I always liked the brand and concept, I hope the new owners make a good stab of it.
  17. as long as they draw the line somewhere before eating children......
  18. first account was deactivated, but she has seemingly persuaded admin that she'll be a good girl from now on and has been reinstated. Let's hope she was earnest, or will at least drastically improve trolling skills.
  19. Has any one caught Enlightened at all, a strange little Laura Dern vehicle by HBO. About a big pharma/chem exec who has a breakdown then turns a new leaf after a rather new age treatment retreat, but her new priniples don't help much when you can't escape yourself or your life. I'm actually really enjoying it, almost british style bleak comedy done with californian (nebraskan? I dunno) glow.
  20. The Pixies reunion tour rockumentary was opssibly the most boring thing ever committed to celluloid (or flash memory these days)
  21. The world is a better place for people giving detailed thought to things like how many pants should you take on holiday
  22. ah, and i see she's gone....if she loked like that i'll miss her :(
  23. i think infer probably fits best, which incidentally is how i see dvl, somthing like this infact[sic]?
