It's not just Southwark- I know personally of one other who is just as bad and I daresay others- I would not be surprised if the leaseholders pay the lion's share. You can of course contest the cost and get info about how to do that - the council should enclose this info when they inform you of the works and the cost. If there is a stitch up deal with the contractor as steveo says then you will be wasting your time following it up. There should be leaseholders' meetings also....I wouldn't trust any of them either- I'm selling asap

after the riots looted stuff was found in branches of cash converters which surprised me because they have ID checks

Maybe they know something about the Green Belt that we don't! -
Nail polish is never a good idea whilst travelling. I saw a girl applying some and she tipped the bottle up and got a lovely shade of pink all over her nice (interview?) suit.....

No-one disputes that the Widgery Report was a whitewash, but the Saville Inquiry was not and ironically set up the same year of the Omagh bombing, 1998....talking of tit for tat....

Man knocking on our window at 2.30am asking for money

This happened at our house a couple of years ago....the man wanted a tenner for a cab because his father was in hospital...we did not cough up at 3am -
I'm sure one of my relatives used to swear by liquid paraffin as a laxative. Anyway given the pressure on people to be in their workplace for as many hours as possible , this kind of behaviour is inevitable

Attempted child kidnapping by Goose Green Primary
uncleglen replied to LD929's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am an utter cynic and therefore I believe that the reason these incidents are not widely reported is because they do not want the general public taking the law into their own hands. Most crims- even if they are caught red handed, are released on bail and disappear.... -
Pressure needs to be put on local councils- especially Labour ones- to stop using our children's education as a political football. The councils get the money and it is up to them what they do with it (local democracy and you voted for them)...and they are renowned for depriving front-line services of essential funds whilst maintaining saturation levels of admin staff.

Attempted child kidnapping by Goose Green Primary

I don't see how the police could stop this type of thing at the time it happens. Even when the cops catch people, using precious time and at great expense, the crims are released on bail and abscond..... These people are chancers, and they have no way of knowing if there are plain clothes police and unmarked cars around so they take a chance- we can only teach our children and keep an eye on them -

I was in Ruskin park the other day and squirrels were eating the heads of crocuses and an adult was watching her dog digging up plants in the flower beds (even though dogs are supposed to be on a leash in that area).....there are morons everywhere -
I used to listen to Radio 4 Afternoon Drama every day until 9/11 when it was giving an eye witness account, which I thought was part of the drama except when the bloke's voice went all falsetto as the second plane hit.....got home and put tv on and saw it. I can understand how the USA thought War of the Worlds was real though. Never listened in since.

Typical- using up the budget, creating havoc for the working public

I think I saw some kind of plug in aromatherapy thing for cats on the tv recently to improve behaviour?

Southwark council tax bill hitting the door mat for 2017 - 2018

What you need to remember jaywalker is that Local Councils are political animals and will operate as such. In my experience down the years front line services are used as a political football because of local democracy- i.e. you voted for the council, suck it up....and every time there is a clash of politics- i.e. central government is Tory and local government is Labour, then watch out....for example, money allocated to education can be used ANYWHERE in the education department, not necessarily at the chalk face- which goes to explain why schools want to opt out of LA control. -
My gran, who was a cook, made toad in the hole with lamb chops and years later she made an inferior version with sausages which she called 'sausage toad' you would ask for 2 portions of toad in the hole

Yes, unfortunately Nigello, it did happen to me -even though on both occasions (2 separate incidents) the council representatives caught the people in the act. It was a few years ago but it has resulted in the whole family never considering complaining about anything ever again Thank you James for your offer.

If you are near a 'building site' (i.e. a development of any size where there are construction workers coming in and out rather than DIY projects) then there are strict rules that apply as regards dust and pollution which is why some of them have mesh up. However in my experience many of the houses being redeveloped around here do not comply. You can inform the council who will send people round- but be aware that the council will tell the builders who complained and you may get harassed.....

I probably had just read the thread where someone had been violently attacked in Goodrich road by perps on mopeds....

JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > By "Typical" I meant I thought most boys had gone > past this now. > > Ego's :( There are large swathes of people out there who have not gone past this- and never will if it is not addressed more seriously. If it's happening in London what on earth is it like elsewhere.....

Not surprising really since faith schools are not required to address LGBT+ issues and in my experience they do not and homophobia is rife to the extent that teens will freely be abusive about teachers they perceive as 'gay' - it's like stepping back 20 years in time to hear them- because their views have been engendered and unchallenged since birth. In this article it appears that Labour, when in government, amended the equality act to enable faith schools to avoid the issues.....and by 'christ' they do with a smile on their faces like they are proud of allowing 18 year olds out into the big wide secular world with total ignorance of sexual equality. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/andy-burnham/11699408/Faith-schools-must-be-forced-to-teach-about-homosexuality-Andy-Burnham.html he is right of course
