  1. Me too- on a very serious note the influence of the RC church is a massive worry - although the influence of the catholic church is mercifully on the wane in Poland (for a start).
  2. EU law protects the rights of open access operators to operate outside of government control. Example:Grand Central Railway, a subsidiary of Arriva UK trains- owned by Deutsche Bahn since 2010. http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/01/16/chocolate.war/ ffs
  3. tomskip...foreign travel, expensive cars or a second home, etc.....I can't believe you did not get my drift
  4. Mine is different....I think the primary schools may have complained
  5. There are 750 MEPs -it is ridiculous number of unnecessary politicians to maintain- given that in reality, politicians are about as useful as a chocolate teapot imvho Given that EU law would prevent the re-nationalisation of the railways, which, given the finite nature of fossil fuels and the congestion on the roads, (not to mention the pollution generated which the EU fine us for every year,) is the only sensible way forward in transportation- then EU law is a stupid ass and we should get out now
  6. Stephen Timms survived a stabbing by one of his constituents in East Ham, Harriet Harman wearing a stab vest in her own constituency of Peckham...that's why i'm not surprised rd.
  7. I'm not surprised- Remember Anders Brevik?
  8. There is no need to apologise for sending your child to a private school although you may think there is given the tone of some of the people on this forum. You have chosen to spend your money on education, rather than expensive foreign holidays (thereby wasting valuable finite energy resources), or an expensive car, or even a second home in the country (thereby pushing up house prices and contributing to the death of the English village).....sorry for the rant- but you should not apologise. As a teacher myself, in the state sector, I am all too aware of the inverted snobbery surrounding the topic.
  9. I wonder if humans ever had the ability to benefit from this: http://www.calicavycollective.com/2011/11/its-normal-for-guinea-pigs-to-eat-their.html Humans and guinea pigs are similar in that they do not produce their own vitamin C and have to get it from their diet, unlike other animals
  10. Just soak the basil in vodka- but don't get any of that dodgy cheap vodka. You've got too much time on your hands to be sodding about with this sort of thing.
  11. It's not just Alleyn's- it's all the construction work going on. The workmen are turning up at 7.30 ish everywhere- I expect it is because they are trying to miss the rush hour to get on site....I wouldn't think that many of them could afford to live near their place of work. The workmen doing the conversion next door to me turned up at 7am.
  12. I agree with DaveR on this point.. 'Isn't it actually just the Anti-Academies Alliance, by another name? Which in turn is a movement dominated by teaching and other public sector unions,...' And the fact that the NUT is backing your meeting kind of proves the hidden agenda. Anyone who is 'in' education knows that local councils use schools (and other front-line public services controlled by the local council) as political footballs and will use every opportunity to manipulate local 'democratic' powers to denigrate the government's policies, when central government is conservative and local government is not as we all saw during the Thatcher years. During the 1990s I worked in several different types of schools in Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham- all of them seemed to have enough resources at the 'chalkface' - City Technology Colleges, Grant Maintained and Voluntary Aided faith schools but the locally managed schools- i.e. the ones in local Authority control- did not
  13. This is an example of how the EU court overrules our court http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3467569/Judge-lets-Romanian-rapist-Britain-break-EU-law-deport-home-country.html he is a rapist and a drunk driver (i.e. potential murderer). I know all you lefty fascists will scream daily mail...but it was widely reported and this is the first ref on google plenty more where that came from...oh yes and so what if the EU court agrees with the PM on the child benefit thing today- they can reverse ANY of their rulings at anytime....
  14. Latest from Migration Watch http://www.migrationwatchuk.org/press-release/454 root- Brussels created a backdoor entry into the EU for non-EU citizens - and the Pakistanis, Bangladeshis etc in the UK just marry someone from there and Bob is your uncle population doubles! David Cameron could not prevent it so the only way to get any control over this small island is to get out
  15. Usually it's 30-45 minutes for a set....
  16. Before you manicure your garden to within an inch of its life http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/species/stag-beetle
  17. Azira- I think alan medic cracked that one before....
  18. Nigel Farage was probably referring to this type of thing when he said women were at risk of sexual assault: http://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/cologne-is-every-day-europes-rape-epidemic/news-story/e2e618e17ad4400b5ed65045e65e141d http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/12176689/Law-abiding-rapist-let-back-into-Britain-because-it-would-break-EU-law-to-deport-him-to-Romania.html The EU deems that rape is not serious enough to warrant deportation.....so wtf is? At least the 3.9 million votes for UKIP will count this time around
  19. I am sure Southwark will tell you that it is a result of cut backs in government spending.....and since our councillors are not Labour councillors we will be used as political footballs. If you voted labour it is your own fault- and it is also the fault of the ignorant idiots that do the littering.
  20. yes to youtube- everything is there, from changing oven elements, to threading your own eyebrows!
  21. Fantastic....the first time I saw one of those it was flying straight at my front room open window- my wife screamed so loud that my sister fell off her chair...it flew almost vertically
  22. DulwichFox summed it up='Out.. We were never every really part of it anyway..' We are just a cash cow for the rest- and a dumping ground for dodgy types
  23. Traditionally something made of TIN
  24. The fare freeze only affects pay as you go and contactless falls into that category....it looks like he is only helping out visitors- not the people who use 7 day, monthly etc travel cards in London. When he announced this I knew he had no jurisdiction over it- less than honest imho-lying by omission I think it's called...but then who believes a politician anyway?
  25. Louisa was right in her earlier post about the poor- the Archbishop of Canterbury stated a couple of weeks ago that when there is large scale immigration it is the poor that bear the brunt of it. I doubt very much that most ED residents have much contact with the truly poor people in the UK. I'm still trying to understand why children from children's homes in Kent were dispersed around the country to make way for unaccompanied illegals some weeks ago- so much for their human rights
