  1. Print the email and show it to your neighbour.
  2. Two pools, two hundred yards from each other, one outdoors with our UK climate, hmmm...
  3. Totally bewildered to hear on the radio that a 9 year old girl was at a firing range with her parents having a gun lesson which ended-up with her killing her firearms instructor with an Uzi by accident. HELLO - 9yr old with an automatic as a day out ? What is going on where kids are being exposed to firearms like that. Will the laws there change now, at least to done extent, as a result of this latest tragedy ?
  4. The number of 'bumps' is directly proportional to the uselessness of the item for sale. As more 'bumps' occur, the item concerned takes on an increasing pointlessness of ownership. Everyone knows that, so even what would have been the most desirable object becomes tainted with the stigma of multi-bumps and so finds it way back into the dark recesses of the cupboard from whence if came, or into a skip.
  5. Given the hoarding and high lighting fixtures behind the bus, could the location be one of the bus stands / stations the bus would have started from or passed through ? If you can get details of routes which the bus served, perhaps you can eliminate the stops/station locations one by one.
  6. That whole area was re-paved not so many years ago, IMO it's crap work. Pavements should last decades, not 5-6 years.
  7. Rugger buggers - maybe that's from watching sports in pubs, which I don't do (apart from boxing usually). Even when pissed though, you can end-up with someone in your face - and maybe be more tempted (due to alcohol) to shut them up !
  8. "There is nothing more boring than being sober when surrounded by people getting pissed." A long time ago I had about 15 months off the beer, mainly because I'd just bought the ED house and was in full renovation mode for ages. Getting wrecked on a Friday, ruined the weekend's plans so rather than trying to do both I just went clean. Funnily enough, at that time (early 90s), there were quite a few pubs doing draught alcohol free - which I mistakenly thought would always be the case. Anyway, what I was trying to say, when I was not drinking for that period of time and i was out with my usual crowd I forgot that I was sober and ended-up acting a drunk along with everyone else (though, in retrospect, I had no excuse !). It was only next day that I sussed why I didn't feel rough and could work on house / get to work on time and graft the full day etc. I didn't have a sense at all of being sober but surrounded by pissed people !
  9. I appreciate how much alcohol is a part of our (UK) socialising culture, but sometimes wish I had another option in pubs than 4 pints of Pepsi/juice/soda if I'm off the sauce. Given that NA beers are actually being manufactured, my ideal situation would be that every pub has an on-draft and bottle option, even if it meant being enforced through licensing legislation. There's a lot of governmental initiatives against drink-driving, binge-drinking etc. so I guess I think they should back it with the most obvious measures to make non-drinking as easy (in our culture) as possible. I know it's a bih ask, but it does seem the obvious way to go IF the authorities mean what they say.
  10. Horsebox - that site looks OK, a tiny bit of this available in every pub would be spot-on. Others - thanks. Don't get me wrong, I got wasted in Franklin's with couple of friends last week so I'm no tee-total, but sometimes I fancy the taste but without the consequences. Also, for me, just a pint can sometimes tire me out if I've had a hard day and that evening I get nothing done (which doesn't suit how nbusy I am lately) so I'm looking for alternatives. I guess I'll need to check the local pubs and ask what they sell in NA. Any further info welcome.
  11. I'm not drinking for a while, mainly to keep a clear head and feel less tired. I hate soft drinks as they're too sweet usually so am wondering what alcohol-free beers are available in the off licences and pubs around here. I know it won't have the same taste as real beer (nor the usually desired 'affect'), but in the past I've had some quite presentable ones. I had a good 0% San Miguel in Spain a couple of years ago, so I know there is better than Kalibur (spewk). I found Becks Blue at Costcutter opposite Stab n Wine last night, which was OK, sort-of, ish. Anyone found something decent, if so where ? BTW I really think pubs should have a NA option on tap, to support drink-driving laws, etc.
  12. It's sub-par work IMO. Unfortunately, that par is unlikely achievable by the crews hired by the council to do this kind of work.
  13. Storm clothing should also change their name because of the 1987 event in UK. Is their a resyaurant chain called earthquake ? Or Asteroid ?
  14. All set then !
  15. Wow I'm picking this football malarkey up pretty quick like.
  16. OK I'll shout ya HMB once I've sussed the schedule. Otta - I assume DH team is the one in pink/purple ?
  17. I've never been to a football match in my life but I'm sort of tempted to pop along one home game to DHFC, seeing as it's so local and may end up being fun. I wonder if there's a website explaining the basic rules, so I'd appreciate better what I'm watching.
  18. Louisa take him to North X Rd for a burger, he can afford it after all (of course, only just).
  19. Yes I agree CS. I think the system should be that you take a ticket when entering the car park then insert it back into the ticket machine just before you depart and it calculated your parking fee. But that would mean they make less revenue from fines - which I'm sure is a lucrative revenue stream for the hospital. Very sad the way hospital car parks are run.
  20. Cheers CS. I think the bomb in question is between Darrel / Crystal Palace Rds. Great map !
  21. Computed - did you know a lady, Evelyn, at 199 Crystal Palace Rd ? It was a clock makers (her Father) at time of, and after, WWII. I believe she has a brother, she's around 82 now. She told me a story about the bomb that landed behind the pub nearby and all the ceilings in her house came down. When she was telling me this I wondered if you'd known her when you lived in ED.
  22. But yellow wasps and black flies go unnoticed ?
  23. CS, good to see you posting. TV/radio/stereo can be a distraction at times, but it's up to YOU to turn the darned thing off !! However, I'd like such a button for cold-callers at my front door, perhaps a trap door to a snake pit or an ejector paving slab which will catapault them a couple of blocks away !
  24. vgrant - as confucius said, "a gentleman always uses the correct terminology". This is one of his fundamental analects, so it's OK to get to the bottom of a term, whether it be 'gastro-pub' or 'local resident with class-issue chip on his shoulder'.
