  1. Interesting what uncleglen says actually. For me it's just about the smell and what I'm able/unable to live with. If fags were odourless I'd spend more time outside pubs with friends who smoke. I have no issue with 'smokers' (live and let live etc.) and don't regard them as a different kind of people. It's not a personalised issue for me, just a comfort issue. The comments about designated ares for smoking don't make sense to me, when the proposal is that they're adjacant to non-smoking areas (the smoke isn't clever, so it doesn't know where it should/not go). I used to drink in a Wetherspooons in Ilford, there was a non-smoking section in that bar (for eating I think), but so what, it was surrounded by an entire smoking pub !
  2. yes it was a big very busy greengrocers, you could hardly get by on the pavement on a Saturday.
  3. Cheers too DB
  4. Cheers MM, if I get one it won't be an 'own-brand' version, when you say you lashed it down do you mean stowage-type straps (the mini version sof what hauliers use) ? They seem to go up to ?600 or even more ! With full car of chums my mini estate just can't fit the baggage plus tents and other gear. dbboy - I'd hope it's minimal, due to streamline of the boxes' shape.
  5. Well I ain't gonna buy a bigger car. So if I need more stowage I gotta get one of them there roof boxes. I've checked a couple of sites like Halfords etc. and it seems basically you're gonna pay a couple of hundred quid upwards for a chunk of plastic that happens to have beem moulded into a sort of streamlined coffin shape. Any tips as to decent makes / models and stores that sell 'em ? My fears are contents getting soaked through rain seepage, theft (I understand they are quick to attach, which implies quick to detach). Any advice at all appreciated. Cheers KK
  6. Calm down JL, I respect everyone's choices and I'm not having a pop at anyone ! But please don't patronise me, saying there's something I need to deal with is really condescending - also please don't put words in my mouth, my post had no element of accusation against anyone. I just said it as it is for me as a non-smoker, what ? Am I mistaken ? you know better than me ? - please don't lay your agenda on me !
  7. What even weekday rush hour ? I take it some weekdays and it's a 9 min journey.
  8. While I would never want to restrict anyone's choices, I'm sitting indoors at pubs on lovely summer evenings, rather than choke outside. If I want a beer outside, tough.
  9. Hope that deal works out for you Otta. I've just agreed in principle to pay my next door neighbour ?20 per month to access their broadband wifi. So no phone line charges, also the basic Virgin TV is nothing special - I can catch-up via broadband what I 'need' to see. Losing BoxNation cable channel will be tough, but not life-threatening.
  10. In my experience if the developer is unscrupulous he'll walk all over the planning department at Southwark, run rings around them, if you point out works not applied for have been carried-out Southwark will be too spineless to do anything about it. Forget the theory. Good luck. You'll need your wits about you.
  11. Well this company should make a statement and explain why they think the streets of ED double as a dump. 'Company'. Ha, lol.
  12. Roundabout I doubt if it's ?50k a year, I'd have though that's the lease cost, you then pay monthly rental plus business rates. I may be wrong - I'm sure someone wil point out if so.
  13. I think you're obliged to pay it otherwise everyone in the block would be able to find a way out of paying. It's probably a condition of the lease. Ex council flats can explode the theory that external upkeep of a flat is cheaper than a house. If you've a residents association they may be able to challenge the cost / selection of works.
  14. Yeah like I say, clipboard f*cks.
  15. Peerage is a poor second best to simply having the investigation into her son's murder conducted without prejudice. Stephen is dead and only a couple of those responsible are behind bars, even that took well over a decade to achieve while the others still pollute our streets.
  16. wow that's dangerous - stood there many times recently myself.
  17. It's more fun watching 'em die, slowly.. Mwaaaa haa haah har har haaaaa
  18. not you edcam, you can butt right out, this is me and char1i3, she's taking over the identity not you. If she's a he, then you're in (if you're a she) instead.
  19. Laura's my girlfriend, Great Exhibition at 7.30pm ?
  20. Good advice from RD, LL and JB.
  21. apparently the ex-chopsticks/indian mischief place on LL.
  22. well it's down to Laura to sort it out, via anybody she hired or otherwise. she didn't pass-on ownership of the crap. what Willjac described happened to me once, a guy knocked on my door having seen the trash in my front yard (which was steadily building-up, waiting for a neighbour who'd offered space in a skip he was gonna get anyway). the guy offered to load it into his van round the corner for ?15 and could he borrow a couple of my wheelie bins with his mate to cart the trash around there. seemed a good deal. he came for money, when I asked about all the mess strewn across the pavement he said the mate had gone to get a broom and everything will be left tidy shortly. later when I realised ti shadn't been done, I ended-up sweeping the mess up along pavement and round corner - where I found evidence that my stuff had been dumped over someone back wall at the end of the block (they'd used a chair I'd got rid of to do this). open-bracket unts.
