Very cheap comments on here branding UB a racist though, or 'implying' such. So easy to hurl that one isn't it, even when totally unsubstantiated. Pure slander.

Nutters who do 3 point turns on Champion Park

3 point turns on busy roads are selfish and lazy. drive around the block FFS, or back into a drive/side road then pull-out to go the other way. -
Train fatality at east dulwich station

Anybody know how the lady who was subject of the incident at ED station is doing ? Was she local ? Is there anything locally that could be done going forwrad to support her ? -
I only caught the Chisora v Scott fight from R4 onwards. From what I saw, Chisora was being outboxed and out pointed by Scott, but Scott (as his record shows) didn't have the power to stop Chisora. Scott's punch selection and movement was great, his combinations were well-delivered. However, Chisora keeps coming forward, walking Scott down, then as Scott ducks and leans back to avoid a Chisora looping downward right hand he gets caught and cowers, giving Chisora the chance to land a big right body shot. Scott takes a knee and the ref counts, it actually looks like Scott is fine but just taking the opportunity for a break as a tactic, seeing as he's down anyway. As the ref counts 9, Scott springs-up, definitely beating the 10 count, but the ref waves it off. Certainly looks like dodgy reff'ing from the angle the camera showed it (looking from behind Scott). Uproar from crowd and one or two of Scott's corner men have fits. I couldn't see Scott's face at the time the ref stopped it, so I'll give ref the benefit of the doubt and not overtly condemn him Does seem an unfair stoppage though. If Scott punched harder, hd may well have stopped Chisora early.

All those angst-ridden early teen years, trying to get a girlfriend, it never occurred to me to just threaten/demand another boy's girlfriend. If only I'd known !! -
oh yeah, an ice-cream oyster please, with 2x 'extra sprinkles'.

If Chisora wins I'd actually like to see him fight Fury again. Heaven knows why Chisora was unprepared last time, but given Cunningham floored Fury (and Chisora himself had Fury wobbled a couple of times) I'd give Chisora a very good chance. Of course, Fury's on his own 'path' and is unlikely to want Chisora. I watched the Kell Brook v Carson Jones 2 contest on youtube earlier this week. Kell hit Jones with everything, had him wobbled/legs gone, something about Jones though meant he just takes punches and keeps coming. In the end the ref stopped the fight because Jones was being caught too cleanly and too frequently. Kell needs to ensure he doesn't lower the class of his opponents now, he missed his title shot against Devon Alexander through injury and is keen to get back into contention. I'd rate Kell's chances against Adrian Broner (therefore Broner wouldn't be interested).

David Chisora's on this weekend, against Malik Scott, an unbeaten (35-ish wins) US fighter. Malik has not faced the same level of opposition as Chisora (barring Chisora's last opponent !), has a low KO % but is being touted by some boxing 'writers' as the next big think, along with Deontay Wilder. Unless Malik is going to outbox Chisora for the entire fight I can't see him winning. Chisora will come and find him and test his chin. Chisora has actually trained for this contest, so it should be entertaining no matter the outcome.

If this is serious, and the guy has literally shipped his speakers into the garden, it's totally out of order. Just keep asking him to turn it down, he'll soon get fed-up. Catalog your requests and also the times/duration he plays, in case you have to take it further / things escalate.

Actually Fox, it's also racist to suggest that a person's creed makes them superior, too. It's the distinguishing bt race / creed, you see.
-
Creed had sort of already been established by the context of the thread, Indian sub-continent/Bangladeshi.

The big mistake that people with some training often make is that they can fight, so they try and fight and get hurt. It's never like in the gym, so to assume every Thursday down the gym for a year brings the skills, is reckless. -

No you're reading into it what you want to. I've said what I'm saying, you don't need to translate it into something else ! Many benefits from training - that's obvious. Just don't assume that automatically being able to fight is one of the benefits, it's a possibility you'd be better equipped but everything changes when your nose is bust and you can't see or you've just hit the ground with your teeth and you're wondering where those nice padded mats you practice on have dissappeared to. There, I've repeated myself. You seem very confident in your son's abilities, good luck, let's hope he never has to use them. I think your response has sort of proved my point anyway. -
When I was in Northern Burma many years ago, hill tribe children had a peculiar game they played with butterflies. Catch one, tie a thread of cotton around it's thorax so it's effectively on a lead, then pull it's legs off and watch it wizz round and round until it's exhausted and simply just hangs from the thread. Then they'd drop it and stamp it into the mud.

It's extremely dangerous to assume any increased ability in being able handle oneself 'better' on account of a few months training in any martial art or self defence, such a conclusion after even 2-3 years of training is arguably still tenuous. It depends on what the training has been, how comfortable it was, the aptitude of the student, the situation when it arises, the ability of the opponent to endure pain, etc. etc. Self defence classes are like classes in how to fly, almost entirely theoretical, apart from techniques to defuse / get out of the situation. If you can take fitness, well-being and confidence from the classes, great. But don't assume any more than that unless you've been through altercations that validated your skills. As *Bob* said earlier above, or on another thread, unfortunately the only way to get experienced at fighting is to be in fights. -
bob - does that include phone line charge ?

Appeal for local support: Aquarius Festival 2013
KidKruger replied to Brian Tee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
UncleBen, you pay a quid or two quid to get in and see great music all day, beer is cheaper than local pubs and it's a great venue with super view. There's no event like it, or with as good quality music, in the locality. If your ?1-2 entrance fee goes towards the private members, but you get to see bands that would usually cost hundreds of ?'s to see otherwise, are you really bothered ? If you spend a day at the festival you may find that, as a member of 'Joe Public', you're grateful for having had the opportunity !! -

I get to WR at 0750 on a Saturday, in time for the 0800 opening, if I do need to go there, never more than 2-3 folks waiting at that time. Bloke at Plough - stroll in ANY time for whatever he sells. Good ribs, great chicken, and some interesting sausages too.
