  1. That'd be good for those chaps in the little coffee stall - glad to see they're still there. That'd be a great area for them to carry on trading and even increase the space they have to work in - they always looks so cramped ! That waiting room needs ventilation though.
  2. I'm sorry, but the last post by Prunella is a bit pathetic. I had a cat killed by a car 3 years ago, it had crossed a road and got mashed-up, the car owner was gutted - when someone pointed out to him that it had happened. This is my point - unless the car driver intentionally went for the cat to hit it (as all leisure centre users do, no doubt - right ?) then there's nothing reckless about it is there ? I hit a pheasant on the A3 a few weeks back. BAM. Dead and gone. Don't think I was being reckless though. It's very sad losing a cat to the road, but it's extremely common and not part of some hatred by drivers, so park the hunt for someone to blame Prunella. There's nothing in the OP that I can see that suggests foul play, so why jump to assumptions ? Peace - it's a real shame, sorry to hear about your cat. You mentioned that lot's of people saw what happened - so what did happen ? Are you saying it was done intentionally or that the car driver knew he'd hit your cat and then drove-off regardless ? If not, what would you say to the driver if you located him ?

  4. I had one of those yesterday in red ink saying something like "Homeowner - CONFIDENTIAL", it was someone saying how they could sell my house in a couple of weeks. Totally unneccessary use of red ink IMO - got me worried for a while..
  5. people with middle names - that's posh.
  6. Any approach such as trying to equal the volume levels of 'Pauline' or telling her to put a sock in it will create tension, so fun to do but ultimately not useful. - Lady D's suggestion is a good one, but has a ?'s outlay if you want the serious ear defenders. - Speaking with 'Pauline' may work if done in private, but I'd do it from a 'I need to concentrate' / 'My work is suffering' angle, rather than just 'Ooh you're too noisy'. Give 'Pauline' a rationale / impact to obtain most reasonable outcome. - Speaking to her manager with same approach is the other option, being clear that you need to escalate asap because you're having to finish work in the evenings to catch-up, but thought you'd check if the manager could do anything to support your concerns before you do escalate. I had this recently while hot-desking at a company, there were a few staff who'd travelled-down from a regional office for the day and were sat on the other 3 (of 4) desks. It was CommunityCentresVille, Tennessee, non-stop chitty-chat about holidays, weather, comparative diets and TV drama. I was trying to concentrate, these guys (2 guys, 1 girl) were taking the mick IMO. So, I held my work phone to my ear and joined a fake audio conference. I said "excuse me, can you repeat that" a couple of times to my imaginary audio colleagues, when that did not work I said "I'm sorry there's a LOT of background noise here today", then I kept saying "pardon? , pardon ?, can you repeat that last bit" whilst sticking a finger in my other ear and holding a wincing trying-to-concentrate-on-the-audio expression. I did all this speaking EXTREMELY loudly, the chatters could definitely hear me no matter how much they'd have liked to pretened otherwise. After 2 mins (I know) one of the chatters elbowed another and nodded towards a break-out area all of 40 feet away and they went there to finish their must-have conversation. "Ah, that's better the background noise seems to have calmed-down, FOR NOW". When they cam back I was off the 'audio' and they were quiet, only making the odd work-related comment. Let us know how you fix this.
  7. speak to her manager again.
  8. Oh. I've always found my trains fairly consistent, I take either trains up through City Thameslink/St. Pancras OR to Victoria, never had to change platforms though - must have been lucky. But yes, changing platforms with old layout, just as a separate train has arrived, I can picture the carnage.
  9. Fair point, I guess that's something they'll have to address as they go forward. But yes, they should have paid attention to how the station / screens are currently used. I think most travellers know exactly what train their platform leaves from though.
  10. yes I saw the mobile phone booth in doorway of a shop opposite Khan's on Rye Lane doing this a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what the outcome was obviously.
  11. Well, passed through new entrance this morning. All seems to work fine - and much more... SPACE !!!

    Syria

So what's betting on what the US is gonna do now they appear confident that chemical weapons were used by Assad on his own people ? If the US say they're in, I find it hard to believe they'll just provide military hints to the opposition.
  13. "Shocking enough, but for a woman to call for that ?" Wow. Puts me in my place. Not equal morally to a woman, because they have a better grasp of what's right and wrong.
  14. I'd have to go with Haye, too. Haye fought the 7ft 2in Valuev and Vlad Klitshcko, so I think he can handle height. I'm not convinced yet that Fury has the speed to trouble Haye. Haye has a knack of getting in close enough to strike very quickly, so I think unless Haye just happens to get caught on the way in/out, or by part of one of Fury's combinations (which aren't bad), then he gets the KO. It's in Haye's interests to close the show early because he's gonna have to move a lot and will be leaned on and elbowd etc. like Cunningham was. Plus Haye does tire mid-rounds. Perhaps Haye works Fury's body ? Found out yesterday that Wilder is about to announce his next opponent, apparently a 'dangerous Russian'. Not sure who that is - Boystov - whoever, it could be Abdusalamov who I like a lot just for his brutal power, he's a KO merchant as is Wilder. If that match-up is made it'll be interesting in some respects, neither are amazing boxers, but both finish their contests early by KO.
  15. Scary thing watching this series at any time is that (and I think this is still the case) these candidates are allegedly in competition for a ?100,000 position. These muppets patently would struggle to achieve ?50,000 by any other means. All the background and experience they boast (and often cannot substantiate) seems to bear no merit in the tasks they undertake. You just would not pay ?100,000 to these chancers, which is why they are on this programme and not already firmly deployed in a position of this level of pay. The only candidate I ever saw with decent skills was very early on in the series, it was the chap I think called Tim who'd IIRC been employed previously at London Underground.
  16. That's extremely weak. You asked questions about fixed-location car cleaning businesses v mobile car cleaning businesses, which I answered for you. Now you switching to comparing mobile car cleaning businesses to fly-tipping ?! I understand the argument you think you want to make, but you're not doing yourself any favours by going off on bizarre tangents.
  17. "businesses should operate where they have permission to" Not sure what laws the guy has broken. Isn't this in the spirit of pop-up ? Seems pathetic to force small time business into overpriced retail premises with extortionate lease costs and disgusting business rates. Surely the car cleaning guy is within the spirits of pop-up. "Why should this guy get away with operating without the overheads of a business premises ?" Again, are you seriously suggesting that anyone trying to run a small-time operation shoul dbe obliged to sink their life savings and more into it - and just so other businesses (who could have had the gumption to do it themselves|) feel better about it !? "How would you feel if you were the owner of the car cleaning business at the end of Chesterfield Grove ?" You would probably feel that you're in the real world where there's real competition and maybe you should have thought through your decision to blow silly money on premises when perhaps you could have done without - although you'd admittedly have less business in all likelihood. I'd feel that I've got a location people can regularly come to, rather than me having to trawl around residential streets trying to win business. Fair point about t-e-d being uptight about skips recently !
  18. "everyone in ED is so trusting that they will believe any company they see " most people in ED are far from stupid, contrary to the picture you're painting ! If YOU need tight governance to prevent yourself making bad judgements, fine, go to an 'authentic' trader for your 'bonafide' service. But most of us can look discern for ourselves !
  19. "So none of you will mind when you're caught out by illegal traders?" I'm a grown-up (well some of the time, definitely when in a deal though). What does 'caught-out' mean ?! If the guy is offering a decent product / service then good luck to him. If he's not, but I don't realise, that's my fault.
  20. My god such detachment from real world by the OP. Must be a really scared person. I think t-e-d's comments are completely appropriate given the inappropriateness of OP.
  21. What the blokes or the girls ?! Whenever I have a veggie day I never noticed any difference.
  22. Thanks Jeremy, will lookout for those.
  23. rahrahrah - costs/timeline aside, as long as it provides improvements the finer details of design etc. don't really matter I'm afraid. There's a recession on and this ain't the ideal homes exhibition. In this climate we should be thankful for the improvements at all, heavn knows the funding isn't really there to pay for it anyway. Louisa - It's an overrun, not an overlap.
  24. Where locally can I get Roundup probiactive (is that the concentrate ?) ?? I'm on a mission this weekend. That and the moths.
  25. these projects always overrun - it's expected. This is UK, not Germany. However, it's main premise I believe is to make the station more usable, by the numbers that now pass through and also to support disabled/pram pushers - not necessarily to create a 'beautiful' world wonder. Do you know for a fact that no-one's head's rolled ?
