You'll need some solid curtain rails.

Wow !! It was "15 to 20 quid on a take out pizza" ...even in 2009 ? Prices must have come down since then, cos there's nothing available locally for that much. Consistent (use of over-inflated price quotes) at least.
-
Well it was sounding like she's been caning the acid. Literally no pertinent points being raised, just distraction.

taking your hotdog example, the ?6 is top-end on NorthCross Rd, there are NO dogs on sale for > ?7. So your phrasing on cost is plain wrong. Where 'down the road' can a hotdog be got from a van for ?3 - where do I walk from NorthCross to get it ? Wherever the mystery working-class hotdog van is, it won't import it's wieners, cook/reduce it's relishes, offer anything near the selection of dogs. Your challenges seem unfounded and inflated to support an argument that doesn't need to be had !!

I still don't get how an enquiry about tasty street food stalls has morphed into (at best) a class-struggle monologue. Are you seriously saying that working class people cannot afford a hotdog or pork roast bun from the market ?! Is that because after buying the week's ciggies and booze, the pot's empty ? There's no class-struggle relevance to street food or it's history. The poorest people would never have eaten food from a street stall or a shop if they could make it, or something else, cheaper themselves.

Barnabus: "Thanks for the advice penguin68. I think my dad is going to try to do this, though the pins are built into the wall so it will be quite tricky!" Get someone to weld a couple of heavy steel washers to the hinge pins so the gate cannot be lifted off. This is what I did to prevent my gate getting knicked a while back (after it had been nicked and propped up in someone's front door frame, up the road). You can paint over the workin same colour as gate.

Louisa, Manzes is not street food so the comparison is weak. You're claiming that in the good old days only working class folks ate street food, this is innacurate - the world over, all classes eat street food where it's available, for the simple reason that its some of the best food available (of the type of dishes being served). Most upmarket street food beats the shite burger van-type 'working class' food hands-down and I for one am grateful for it. It's not like the 'middle class' people eat 24/7 at the street stalls, I'm sure it's a treat for them and anyone else. BTW - what are your credentials for being so non-'middle class' ?!

I am offering a services from today going forward where I will organise tickets for the ED Folk Club (Goose) for a mere ?20 per ticket. This includes all services/costs and entrance to the gig itself. NOTE: I am not the official Goose ticket outlet. Prices may vary according to the mark-up I fancy making / who's playing. Please PM me for bookings. (..BTW Sue, I found it !)

Jeremy - I worked for a while near Whitecross St, loved the choice of stalls, esp. the Carribean. (Are you at Regents House ?). SJ - I'm right on Ludgate Circus. Haven't been to Leather Lane, will check it out - having said that I just looked-up where Leather lane is and realised that I worked at Waterhouse Sq (the old Pru gothic-style building) and never even knew it was there (must have been busy then as I never took lunch once).

Will do EP, just checked location, I'm on other side of St P but worth a stroll later in week I reckon. Respek to Chill.

El Pibe: "anything near st paul's? The choice around here is truly awful." I'm there this week and it's dire IMO. Best I've found near St. Paul's is a Korean cafe off Ludgate Circus, they do a tray of different stuff for like ?6.50, not gonna change your life but better than the 'Earl of Sandwich' which charges ?5 per sandwich. It's not 'street' though. Incidentally, street food - one of the attractions for me is there's no admin (waiting to be seated/acknowledged, ordering from menu, over-priced drinks, breads, side-dishes, asking for this/that, requesting bill, waiting for bill, waiting for waiter to come collect/return your card). In Asia though, I eat almost entirely at night / food markets or street stalls - like the rest of the populace.

No. But I know some great match-ups by friends who've met someone via internet dating and had long-term relationships / married. Not sure it's as sad as blurting out your lines to someone in a bar after 10 pints.
-
Loz, That's a bit disrespectful, yes I do have a pulse, but at that time I wasn't so flush.

Oh that's great Ondine !! Well let's hope he continues in cheery mode.

I shop a couple of times a week Rye Lane, weekends and evenings. However, based on EDF posts you cannot have any idea how many/what proportion of shoppers at Rye lane are from ED ! I actually like Rye Lane the way it is, I could go with the station forecourt being brought back to it's alleged former glory, but am happy with (and use) the grocers, butchers, fishmongers. If Rye lane reverted to some vanilla high st I'd have to shop elsewhere because it'd probably mean my usual 'etno stores' would be closing.

I did consider that angle Ted, however (and probably unfairly) I think a decent suit deserves more protection than a cheap crappy suit - that somehow, it's more 'worthy'.
-
EP, ha ! No, you cheeky chap, but i would suggest a pecking order whereby if you're gonna screw-up someone's hard-earned suit with your greasy coat then choose a cheap suit to inflict it on !! Wax coats can't improve ANY suit or other clothing by being rubbed against them. That's why they're country wear, where you aren't cramped on a train but are wading through a gorse bush.
-
I also spotted a cat that looked a bit forlorn last night - can anyone claim ownership of the cat ?
-
Just don't stand next to anyone on the train who's got a decent suit on, the wax marks other people's clothes !
-
Guilty. Pay the fine and don't do it again. Next.

Warning re rubbish clearance scam at front door.

Won't happen again though, will it ?! -
I probably started the questioning, by asking for confirmation whether there was any discourse between jogger / alleged attackers. Reason being that silent attacks, with no build up, are unusual and by their vary nature (no clear motive) are difficult to avoid. My guess would have been there were words exchanged before the assault, perhaps along the lines of "hey watch out, your dog almost tripped me up". No-one here can say either way - you weren't there. The OP can't have been expected to remember every atom of the story she/he was told by their partner gi en how traumatised they must have been, so it's natural that readers will make observations and ask questions, as a result. Cut Rianoo some slack - easy to pick on reasonable questions meant with no malice.
-
One thing I don't get here that doesn't seem right. The dog ran up to a bloke who was jogging, so the owners of the dog approached the bloke and beat him up ? Or did the dog owners roll-up after words were exchanged ? I'm trying to imagine the silent scenario escalating to a sudden assault. Assault is not OK at all, but rarely happens with no words exchanged.

"People who sit on the inside seat on buses and silently DARE you to ask them to move over so you can sit next to the window." Could I take that seat please I think I'm about to vomit = both seats for yourself instead.

My laptop runs like a dog. Might have just file explorer open and CPU performance shows on Task Manager as 80-100%. The busiest process shows as 'idle process'. Like its telling me that being idle is an overhead on my computer !! FFS Have done defrag etc.
