  1. The popcorn stand at the market still sells bags priced at ?2.50 and ?3.50.
  2. Assad
  3. Build the extension at bloody last.
  4. The sniping tools are good for when you just won't be free to bid (and keep increasing your bids) at times such when you're working, sleeping, driving, etc. I like that it kinda forces you to be cold about what you're prepared to pay - which, for any auction whether on-line or not, you should decide in front anyway. I haven't done it for a couple years but the one I used was AuctionStealer, I don't know whether it's still around these days. Never occurred to me at all that there could even be an 'ethical' question over using this tool - everyone uses eBay, everyone has access to bidding tools, everyone has times when they just cannot sit there watching a bid...
  5. Who needs proof of whether the guy was casing ? How ridiculous ! "Here is a photo of a man who was glaring into our lounge on dunstans road Tuesday 15th. If you know who he is or what he was doing there please email to explain. If you have also seen him doing this please let us know as it may help us understand why he caused my wife to be startled and why he ran off when he realised someone was in the house". FFS. What law has has been broken doing this !? It's exactly the silly comments about 'proof', 'suing' and 'rights' which cripple the future victims and prevent them heading issues off at the pass. Guess why there is so much criminality ? Because of the neuter-minded views expressed earlier in this thread the innocent become unsure they have the right to question behaviour that concerns them. 'Community' doesn't just mean opening you and your people to abuse.
  6. AM, the century began on 01/01/2000. Hence all the end-of-millenium parties the night before.
  7. Sounds a tricky one that - is she bipolar by any chance ?
  8. Following on from Aquarius Moon's points yesterday at 9.23pm, all vegetarians should think twice about putting slug pellets down in the garden, because they might poison your tortoises or birds which pass through the garden.
  9. It's just SOOO easy to jump to worst examples, there's no need - there's no proposal to name and shame on a general basis. It's one instance. One guy. One photo. Reminds me of the argument that if you pay people for being unemployed what'll happen next ? The whole country will go on the dole ?!
  10. The 'whole world' is not interested in someone glaring through a window suspiciously on Dunstans Rd, or wherever. The photos can be removed when/if necessary. If there's a mental health issue (yet another attempt to stretch this very specific instance of trespass into something it's not) then the photo will help others to let the guy know you can't just wander around people's properties behaving like you're casing the joint, because it upsets residents. Mental health or not, it's not OK.
  11. I heard the GE is charging too - was gonna pop over early doors for a beer, guess not. Wonder how much they're charging, shudder at the thought of paying to get into a local bar on NYE !
  12. Malumbu: "But if you choose to justify eating meat, as some of you seem to want to do, kill it, and eat everything edible. Sweetmeats, brains, tripe, the whole lot." If you're making a distinction between meat eaters and 'vegetarians', shouldn't that rule be applied equally ? When you eat a potato or other root vegetable do you eat the leaves, shoots and fibrous tendrils - ideally not peeling them so you don't waste ANY part (which, I presume, is your entire point) ? Sweet corn would be an interesting one, that's a lot of plant to chew through to get to the little nubs of corn at the top ! And of course, there's never anything left on your plate, you devour EVERY morsel, scraping nothing into the bin, right ? And don't eat your veg unless you're prepared to pull on some wellies, trudge across acres of muddy field and uproot the lucky spud all by yourself. Is that what you really meant to say Malumbu ?
  13. Yeah but if you'd seen somebody in the house when you glared through their lounge window you wouldn't have then run off would you ?! The OP fight didn't have a house alarm issue, the guy wasn't checking why her sirens had kicked-off.
  14. I think it's a huge assumption and, in my experience, not accurate. It's precisely this holier-than-thou standpoint which will alienate you. This "meat eaters need moral guidance from vegetarians" (on areas OTHER than diet !) really is top drawer BS.
  15. Can vegetarians can also help in these 'other ways' too ? I don't see caring about mice, bees and snails as being something automatically done by vegetarians, but off the radar of meat eaters. In fact those 'other things' are irrelevant to whatever a person eats, they are just little moral decisions that anyone can choose to acknowledge. And it's entirely off the wall to assert that only meat eaters need this 'guidance'. Aquarius, it does sound like you're still lecturing to meat eaters, in the hope they'll elevate themselves to a level of worthiness approaching your own.
  16. Well that's just ignorance isn't it ?? Just as you can get silly comments if you say you don't drink (why? What's wrong?), play guitar. (Ooh when will you be on x-factor ?), or listen to Leo Sayer (what you listen to that crap for ?). though the last one is maybe not that ignorant..
  17. BNG - Huge isn't saying that being a veggie is automatically high profile. He is saying that if a veggie takes a "high profile morally conflicted position " then he's naturally gonna get stick / questions. Whereas someone who takes Cassius' position obviously won't.
  18. Bond you should send this feedback to the police who sent you the letter, they are the ones that need to hear it, and it would be useful in the future to evidence that you'd told them this. Especially if anything subsequent occurs in the woods... Because if I were you I'd feel that there's no point relying on the police if you're attacked again - tried that and tried doing the right thing, to no avail. I agree if you'd been the one with dog biting old lady it'd be handled differently !
  19. Would it be worth getting a decent solid shed then having it altered by a chippy to your specifications ?
  20. When they discover that veg feel pain just like animals, then what !!??
  21. The Jains (some of them) believe uprooting vegetables from the ground may harm creatures living in the soil, so they abstain from root veg.
  22. No AM, I'm not saying you lecture anyone, or claim to be right or wrong. I do say that you've made choices and good for you and I hope you don't take the same tone as others have on other threads where it descends into moral-chucking. Please read what I wrote I took care to try and avoid inferences like that. If I thought you were interfering with people's views I would have said so, not saying that at all.
  23. Fair point bob, what are the REST of the geezers wearing around here - pretty dire 'dress code' from what I see in the bars / on the street !
  24. I know some 'vegetarians' (their phrase, not mine, and they really believe it) who very occasionally taste free-range chicken or have a bacon roll, maybe once every couple of years, just for the taste. I presume THESE people are regarded as 'purer' than full-time meat-eaters, but not as pure as 'real vegetarians', in the pecking order of who's morally better than who ?
  25. I think if OP is going to use terms like 'pure vegetarian' or 'vegetarian ' they need to define THEIR meaning in front. Otherwise any discussion is going to inevitably fall apart because of people's differing beliefs in meaning / use of these terms. Jains are I believe not a valid description of 'honest vegetarians'. Vegetables are not necessarily their thing, they eat nuts and fallen stuff - from my experience of working and eating with a Jain couple I've known. I think it depends how seriously they want to follow the precepts of their ism. The labelling thing is a bit of a pitfall when discussing consumption habits of foods (veg or meat), it's mainly come about in conversations on EDF lately because one person accuses another of not being a true XXXXXXX (insert your label here) as a reaction to whoever has thrown an accusation at them for being cruel / selfish / etc. People eat what they want to, yet some people want to influence and (seemingly, in some cases, control) exactly what you eat. They will attack you in EDF for what you eat or how its manufactured but their concern does not extend to knocking on doors to have proper and real face to face conversation with you about it, in the same way that other interferers seem to have the gumption to do, such as born again Christians, Mormons and political parties. AM you don't need a label as you well understand, you just eat what you want for whatever reasons you have, all your choice. And hopefully you're happy with that (and healthy !) and don't have this perverse need to lecture others on how you're right and they're wrong !
