Dave the Butcher's was a classic visit during any weekend's shopping. That alone is reason enough to hate the hell out of Sainsbury's, which decimated Lordship Lane and the side streets'. Sainsbury's opening meant that within a year or so you HAD to go there to get all your shopping in one visit because the fishmongers/butchers/grocers were deleted from ED.

Yeah I read about him yesterday on EastSideBoxing. He was one of only 3 men ever to have won 3x consecutive Olympic Gold (Felix Savon being one of the others an dhe's Cuban too !!). Stevenson famously said something like "Why have a million dollars when I can have the love of 4 million Cubans ?" !!

Chillaxed: My trees were as big if not bigger than the trees you're describing. I did it entirely by hand (I was between jobs and fancied the exercise, which it most definitely is if youcomplete the job yourself). - Get a ladder up the tree or climb up it and trim all the branches off with a bush saw (you'll need to think about where all this material is gonna be piled if you have a small garden) - Trim off top of tree as far up as posible - Cut lengths of remaining trunk, tryin to minimise the no. of times you have to do this (assuming you want less work) - Dig a hole at least 4 feet diameter around the tree trunk, I went 3 ft deep. As you get 18" down you'll start knocking into the roots with your spade. Generally you'll get 8-12 big roots and end up with a big pit with a network of an upsid-down tree. - Cut the roots away from main trunk and as far along their length form trunk as possible, effectively removing a section of each root. - Sever the tap root (main one straight under the trunk) as far down as possible (I dug anextra foot for this Mother) - remove trunk stump - lace all remaining root stumps with systemic poison (I then sealed each root end with a plastic bag and tape to seal in the poison and protect the soil. For me the Sycamore is a weed and it's unfair to grow in a built up area with load of back-to-back terraces because everyone gets the seeds and has to deal with the problem.
-
I think Alex is correct, the roots willnot extend OUTWARDS and further than the branches do, so if the edge of the tree is yards and tards away you can infer the roots are also that far away. Sycamore is a bastad tree and will generate many tree-lets very quickly. I let the ones in my garden grow to 30 feet before realising this, then dug them out by hand.

Another burglary - Copelston Road - Sash window safety

I have a massive hedge but I have nailed my front sashes shut (3x sashes, it's a bay window). But yes generally large hedge is good cover for break-ins. -
Yeah I reckon so, short of hitting himself real hard he couldn't have been more obliging ;)

Yeah I agree - I'd favour Mayweather IF he ever meets Manny. I'm not convinced Pacquiao's power has diminished though, Hatton was also KO'd by Mayweather who is not a legendary power puncher by any stretch. Better boxers can be harder to KO because they can reduce the occasions where their head is sat there waiting to receive a full impact punch. Almost every solid straight left Manny landed was whilst Bradley was on the move.
-
Caught the last 1/4 of the Pacquiao v Timothy Bradley fight to witness the most bizarre decision by the judges. Even Bradley, having been awarded the fight by split decision, conceded he'd have to go back and look at the tapes to see if he really did win the contest ! He actually said this twice in the post-fight chats, while stood right next to Manny. Pacquiao graciously said he'd done his best and would welcome a rematch. Manny landed 34% against Bradley's 19% !! Rematch likely in the autumn, both fighters up for it. Which probably squashes any chance of a Mayweather v Manny contest.

The Royal Oak on I think Tabard St does sort of trad pub food, ale drinkers pub, not a flashy bar.

Why people always say stop looking for love and let find you?

There's no guarantees and trying too hard will not do you or prospective partners any good. If it doesn't flow let it go. -
El Pibe, that's exactly it, and probably why BemusED is trying the monthly deal. I think when changing networks that's a sensible idea for a couple of months.
-
BemusED, which part of ED do you live in ? My partner switched to Three last week (I'm watching closely..) and has had no connection issues so far. We're next to Great Exhibition.

Yeah Golden Lionput good stuff on. Kingy puts nights on there too I think.

Ah, I only take my foot out of my mouth to speak

I got set up by a mate in my village when I was just of drinking age: Mate: "KK, go and ask Carl if his sister is any good at ballet, he's a right laugh when you ask him that!". KK: "Huh ?! what's that all about then ?" Mate: "Seriously, he seems a bit of a loner but check him when he tells you ALL about his sister !" KK(stupidly): "Hey Carl, is your sister any good at ballet then ?". Carl: "You taking the piss KK ?" KK: "No mate, is she good or what ?" Carl(literally while KK hangs from the wall held up by the throat, choking slowly): "My sister has little stumpy legs because she was born with Thalidamide, so no she's shit at ballet. And now you're going pay for that". KK: "No, no, you got it all wrong ask my mates they told me to ask you... uuuuurrrghhhhhh..." ..mates eventually talk Carl down but I was truly throttled, Carl would have near-killed me. Touchy bastard. -
I think leaving trash around after a BBQ (or any food outing) in th park is out of order. It's a public location so try to keep it tidy for everyone. Leaving burn marks in the ground or on concrete is a bit worse because it can't be swept/picked up.

You could try Tim at the Windmill, Brixton, he's the man who sorts the night there. He does various types of night. Just make sure everything you agree with him is double-agreed, then ratified just to make extra sure.

Froch takes Bute in 5 !! If you were Bute would you seriously hold Froch to the contracted re-match ?!
-
Chisora should try to make headway in America I think they'd like his aggression over there. Froch is a big step up for Bute, regardless of his speed and skill.
-
What about 'Oh minge' ?
-
No, because without wooden clubs, massive sticks and nail-encrusted swords the bouts last longer.

David Price is now establishing his reputation as one of the best domestic heavyweights, probably in the top four. Encouragingly he's keen to fight the other, which, as Tyson demonstrated when he gave up his belts, may not be a reciprocal motivation. Beating Sam Sexton at the weekend in style and dominating the entire time, he set out his stall as a player in potentially European-level boxing. From fight to fight Price is looking leaner and increasingly in shape, as big as a Klitschko but years away (like 40 fights) in experience. Who he fights next I think will be really significant, I'd prefer if he cleared-up locally but it's unlikely Haye/Chisora will want it as theyre chasing World honours and Tyson Fury is making a big clucking sound although I wonder if he can be forced to fight by repeatedly being exposed as a runner. Other stuff: Malignaggi was amazing at WW, Kessler did a real job on Greene at LH. Froch / Bute is surely the next big domestic match-up ? Who do you fancy for that ? For me Froch in R11.

iPhone 3 upgrade to iPhone 4 - Good Experience ?
KidKruger replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
So i found the backup option as advised, when I selected it the phone said it was Synching. Once it's all done I don't see anywhere for looking at the Contacts and Texts to check the back-up worked. Am I assuming too much (ie. perhaps the back-up happens but you just have no vision of it's contents, it's just a mechanism for assuring the content and enabling upgrading to new phone) ? -
Oh, and another bit of demographic, that I personally have witnessed (so you can't say is unrepresentative) - the only racism I have ever witnessed in SE22/SE15 has been black on white/asian. It's an observation. I've never seen white on asian or white on black. By that I mean people picking on other people and using terminology that identifies the target solely by their ethnicity as the chief topic during the interaction. Why doesn't someone post the term 'white man' on this thread and really push the boat out !?
-
The funny thing here is people (on many threads of this nature) attack OPs and other posters for use of words like 'black', the inference being that the tip of some racist iceberg has been uncovered. It's pathetic. East Dulwich and it's environs, and the people within that post on here and I meet out and about, are mainly fine people. It's tiresome to continually see posters hauled-up for, basically, f*ck-all. Racism, and anything that touches anywhere near it, is a pretty big accusation, so if you think it just come out and accuse someone of it, rather than posturing 'hmm sounds like you're being...', '..could be construed as...' bullsh!t. No-one's being racist OK ?
