Your Cockney Translator. Shame the man turned to the dark side recently. BBC News

Like I said before, the road was already narrowed / pavements widened. At the time I was a pedestrian (still am most of the time) and noticed it on my walk to/from ED station. The pavements were widened considerably, easily 2x the original width, this pushed the bus stop OUT in to the traffic and that meant cars could no longer pass the pulled-over buses which had previously had an extra vehicle's width for that purpose. I noticed that congestion started building-up in both directions and this affected the roundabout and side streets' traffic. The only bearing on pedestrian life I noticed was more space than I needed to walk on the pavament (it's not an extremely busy pavement yet it's 2x wider than Lordship Lane pavement) and that the walk became less pleasant due to the build up of obstructed and noisy cars. The only possible winner I could see was Ken and his argument that London was congested and that he would deliver the solution (Congestion Charging). That strip of road, after the narrowing works, certainly was transformed into a 'sample example' of congestion in London's streets. The congestion makes it dangerous to cross the street and obscures everybody's view, cyclist, bus driver, everyone. Regardless of what they 'intended' the works for last time, the outcome was the pointless congestion and blind navigation we have now. And they want to narrow it AGAIN ?

Ethiopa is a beautiful country and the people are real friendly, generous and accomodating. Friend of mine spent 2 months travelling there (4 years ago) on a motorbike and loved it.

On a long long tube ride out to Heathrow a few years ago, I and some friends were sat with our bags. A guy by the door clearly was dying for a pee, presumably he was determined to make it to the airport, maybe he had a plane to catch, I dunno. During conversation my mate's GF nudged me and said look at the guy. The guy had just decided to release and a quickly expanding dark patch appeared at the fornt of his beige cords. the patch widened and spread down both legs to his trainers and then around where he stood in a warm pool, then it slowly filled up those thin wooden slats in the floor around him that the tube trains used to have. He remained stood still, gazing upon some clearly interesting point just above the door opposite him. As the train rocked it's way the last couple of stops to Heathrow, the pee in the slats would slop back and forth across the door area of the train like a hundred little pee-filled Suez canals. When the train stopped at his station, he just squelched out as if nothing had happened.

Looks like Robert Helenius, who I'd mentioned earlier, is soon facing Samuel Peter who has fought (and lost to) both Klitschkos. He dropped Vladimir 3 times in 2005 before losing on points. Samuel was WBC Heavyweight champion until losing to Vitali. This may answer the 'who has he fought ?' question. Peter is a deadly puncher too so could be a barnstormer. Bout is April 12th.

They already widened the pavement when under Ken Livingstone, it meant cars can't get past the buses at bus stop anymore, it was like it was designed to INCREASE congestion, no real reason to do it otherwise, totally pointless. Widening again will be effectively blocking that artery into/out of ED.

All we can 'do' is share information about where/when muggings occur and take individual precautions for ourselves and watch out for others we see out in the evenings who may be potentially vulnerable.

Have you checked general settings to make sure you have not disabled network settings or something like that ? I am not a techie either but the network-related info is pretty easy to find and may show something is switched 'oof' when you need it 'on'. Also try googling your description of the problem.

Yes I knew Mark and he was extremely pro-active in presenting the bar/restaurant well. Surprised to hear that the place may be on the slide :(

Knowing Vlad / the Klistchkos, Chisora was always a fight that held little meaning and it was almost ditched before, IMO it has been an 'option' to use or discard depending on what else could be lined-up elsewhere. Last time the fight was in jeopardy, Chisora said he would not 'allow' Vlad to by-pass him. My hunch is that if Haye is now on the cards, Vlad wants to make sure he is absolutely ready. Wasn't too interested in Hatton, never really seen too much impressive in him but George Groves won his contest which means next for him is James DeGale, which will be a nice domestic bout. Also, Khan has said that he's pencilled in a date for Timothy Bradley on I think July 23rd, this is interesting given that Khan has yet to meet unbeaten McKloskey (the European LWW champ) in the UK, beforehand. Bradley beat Junior Witter and is also unbeaten. If Khan beats Bradley, he'll (in theory, at least) tie-up the LWW division and be recognised the ruler there. He next plans to go up to full WW and attempt to dominate there. I'm all for moving-up a weight division but I don't thnk anyone 'rules' a weight class until they've seen off a few solid contenders, ie. Devon Alexander and Maidana (or someone equally good) again, followed by Prescott (who needs to first resurrect his standing in the division).

As a result of news posted on EDF of various muggings, readers are very possibly being more cautious and aware on the streets at night. There may have already been a mugging prevented by the increased alertness. Which surely could only be a good thing.

"I'd make any private school that wanted to keep its charitable status demonstrate that 10% of it's pupils were from the poorest 10% of the population. " The sentiment is sound, but enforcing it may lead to positive discrimination. The actual line would perhaps be "10% made up from poorest in population who qualify". This would allow for the poorest 10% not being able to field enough candidates for application.

I'd suggest Haye would take Bruno in 4-6, possibly earlier, Bruno was not fast, if he caught Haye he'd hurt him obviously but Haye's a good mover and I think he would out-manoeuvre Bruno. It's all fantasy anyway we'll never know !!

That's exactly it Taper, in TODAY's time TF can maybe go somewhere but the heavyweight division is weak and the best don't fight the best anymore.

Yeah, hardest name to not laugh at.

Funny thing is he doesn't have that 'boxers physique', a bit like Calzaghe, looks like a regular guy wearing shorts. I reiterate I'm not saying he'll change the history of boxing but I like to watch him. I watch the Marco Huck v Denis Lebedev Cruiser contest recently (it actually took place about year ago I think), what daylight robbery, Huck acted like it was obviously his decision when it was announced. In the press conference Lebedev and team were sick. I think Lebedev stitched Macarinelli, that's how I know about him.

Won a court case yesterday so :)-D(tu):)):)):)):)):)):))

Surely a mix of the two ? There will be talent and there will be 'immoral' types, these traits are not mutually exclusive, some maybe be talented AND immoral.

DC/Jeremy - I have watched footage of Helenius, maybe 6-8 contests, he's a tall guy and he seemd to have this way of being very comfortable as the bombs are thrown at him, he sort of leaned away keeping his feet planted and after the bomb comes he goes back to offensive. I am not saying he's great just that I'd like to see him against known fighters. He takes people out with straight body shots and they don't get up for some time, so his power seems solid. Could Chisora or other lead heavyweights (not Haye) take Brewster/Gammer ? Helenius is early days - which heavy weights do we know who in their first 14 fights beat more than Brewster/Gammer ? There may be a few but I'm not comparing I just like his style and want to see more. Not all the best contests are between No 1 and 2 at a specific weight, check out Travis 'Freight Train' Walker v Alex Leapai it's on YouTube.

Tom Tsatas, of the recently re-opened 5th St Gym, said some interesting stuff about Haye v Vladimir.. "?.let me say this on record: guys like Eddie Chambers, who seem to think fighting Haye would be a lot easier than fighting the Klitschkos because he has come up from cruiserweight and doesn?t have all that much experience as a heavyweight - I think they are totally wrong. Haye fought Valuev and he hurt him. He stopped Ruiz when only David Tua had done it before. Haye is faster than the Klitschkos and he?s a guy who tries to knock you out; he?s not like Wladimir, who waits for it to happen. And Vitali couldn?t stop Briggs. These guys like Chambers are mistaken if they think Haye is in any way a cakewalk". I don't mind who wins, if they do meet, I'm just interested to see two quality boxers get it on, after a period relatively weak and predictable heavyweight contests. I wonder how come Valuev never fought the Klitschkos, you'd think that'd be an obvious fight seeing as valuev held the WBA for some time before Haye took it. The Finnish boxer Helenius is one I'd like to see contending, he's got frightening power.

Used to keep them. Do your research as to which kinds you can legally keep and of those which are suited to life in the garden (if that's what you're intending). Some need specific types of light, the lack of which will cripple the growth of the animal and development of the shell, often irreversibly, resulting in 'unsightly' characteristics which then warrant the animal 'undesirable'. There is a main UK organisation which has a website (can't remember it's name but use your savvy) and if I remember correctly there's a great shop up in Barking which has many types legal for this country some suited for external climates. There are powdered vitamins you can purchase to supplement the meals you give the animal which promote healthy bone/shell development. Compared to when I was a kid the whole game of owning and rearing tortoises has completely changed, we were so ignorant then and the rules were so slack. In the garden foxes will try to open the shells of your tortoise and you'll see the teeth marks where a fox has been unsuccessful, assuming the tortoise was too big for the fox to carry-off. So you may want to lock them in the shed at night, perhaps with a heat/light lamp, depending on the type you get and what care it needs. If you're thinking of keeping something in a glass case/vivarium, think carefully about the limit you'll be placing on the animal's ability to wander, which is normally it's habit). Few pets will outlive you, but these animals can do so easily if allowed the appropriate conditions to stay healthy. Final point, slug pellets and other poisons kill them slowly and extremely painfully.

The Chair - I think it's pretty clear what I am asking. Do people think this guy is out of order for talking so 'boldy'? I am not Captain Definitive about my own views and am sensible enough to listen to (read) debate and other people's views in the hope that I can learm or affirm balance in my own views. This doesn't invalidate my opening question nor deny the right to ask the question. Does it ?

Yet Another Crash on Barry Road - Underhill Road Junction
KidKruger replied to trentk69's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Pulling out of Sylvester Rd onto Barry Rd to go South is a potential killer for me, I did it recently a few times at 06.15am and variable found myself in the path of a car, or in one case a no. 12 bendy bus, The issue was that cars park close to the junction making you blind when pulling out. It was literally a game of roulette. After finding myself 30ft in front of a no. 12 I changed my route. The speed of the oncoming vehicle would gave meant a harder impact but the root fault at that spot was lack of VISIBILITY. -
