  1. There's a good article on EastSideBoxing about why this contest is a sham. Mayweather knows exactly what Ortiz's strengths are and why they've succeeded against other boxers (ie. Andre Berto, who he beat to win the WBC belt recently). Thing is, Ortiz's strengths wouldn't be achievable against Mayweather which is why he's lined-up the fight, he's just not open to those moves. Will create a lot of interest, earn loads of money, but not really be tested. The only real fight out there for Mayweather is Manny, anything else is a sham. I think he'd beat Manny though.

  3. There's a Chinese down Borough High St from London Bridge, about 200-300 yards, just walk past the George and keep on until you see the restaurant on your left. It's 'good' in the sense of food, not 'good' in the sense of being flash.
  4. This guy I may have mentioned a while back in this thread as a possible opponent for Nathan Cleverly. Now it appearss he wants Cleverly: Shumenov wants Cleverly Shumenov is very good IMO. He a won world title after 9 fights. I don't think Cleverly will take-up the offer and if he does I believe he will suffer a loss. Braemer also backed-out of fighting Shumenov I believe - I think he literally didn't turn-up on the day or left on the day citing an ear ache or something !!
  5. Well Froch ground-out a win, well done to him, Johnson is a tough guy to beat. Scary thing (and paradoxic thing too) is that Froch seems to display obvious flaws when he's in most contests, he was open to big rights last night, all night long. Yes, he could take them, but wouldn't it be better not to ? i mean cumulatively they will take their toll during a fight sometime. Andre ward must be really looking forward to the final in the Super Six, he knows Froch can be got to. Ward is unorthodox, dirty (head/elbows/shoulder) and is a great mover - hard to tag. I want Froch to win of course but if I had to bet money it'd be on Ward winning by points. Froch is strong enough to take Ward's shots I think and he could KO Ward, but he has to hit him to do that. Ward made Kessler look amateur and, with his dirty tricks, split Kessler's face up, causing a stoppage. If Froch starts to labour into all out war with Ward, his openess may lead to Ward winning rounds by scoring points or marking Froch with the head. Good win for Froch last night, a hell of a lot to do yet.
  6. Well Doc's health is reasonable, given his age, he's playing on Sunday I think in a neighbour State. Unfortunately, Doc's wife, Rosa Lee, has been suffering effects of advanced years and is now living in a care home. This is a real challenge for Doc, who, blind since shortly after birth, married Rosa Lee when he was 23 and she was 15, sixty six years ago. Of all the artists I know this is one genius who should be coveted in an official / authorised biography. Just got back this morning and thought I'd follow this thread up, to close it out, like.
  7. Helenius to beat Fury most likely if they ever meet. I fancy Derek Chisora to beat Fury too - I heard they have a contest lined-up soon. Froch v Johnson should be a cracker but I wouldn't like to call that fight. If Haye fight is on at CPT I may stroll over - will be a good crowd there I expect like last time.
  8. Look up Thames tide times on google, there's a page showing times for entire year, it shows the high/lows each day. Use Lobdon Bridge time ad your reference, it's not far from SQ.
  9. The fireman's alley I know follows the field perimiter on the left and top edges of the field which snake's lane crosses diagonally. I think snake's lane is history (no pun intended obviously).
  10. I don't accept that golliwogs are manufactured for racist reasons, purchased for racist reasons and played with adored by children for racist reasons. You may be able to argue a level of insensitivity to a point for manufacture and sales but that's about it, for me. Same goes for white caricatured dolls/toys sold in countries populated by black societies, I would not regard those either as cocking a snoot to the days when Europeans were stolen from their countries and forced to slavery and death as a result of it. I think everyone's said what they believe and now it's got (as things typically do) to an I'm right and your wrong loop, no-one's saying oh yeah i didn't think of that thanks for pointing it out so it's Stalematesville, Tennessee. Interesting points raised though.
  11. Alec John Moore, I think the only contentious thing was the inconsistency in OPs claims of origin, across various threads, causing doubt in the motive of the OP, perhaps this raised the temperature of the discussion somewhat. No-one is racist or pro-slave here, I'm sure of that. My guess is the stall-holder is not ignorant and genuinely thought no offence would be caused. The stall-holder was incorrect but that doesn't mean ED is a KKK enclave. As someone else commented earlier, causing division by complaining about division is perpetuating the perceived issue. Also, your sentiments do smart a bit of "You can't call the bingo hall 'Mecca'". binary_star, clearly not, if you read the thread.
  12. Do you have red Sauvignon Cabernet ? So nice to have other cultures living in our area. Yes, East Dulwich is the Sante Fe of London. Cyclists interfere with traffic a lot in East Dulwich, always getting in the way, pesky and unnecessary. 3 years eh ? Well I'VE live here for 8 years, before 'it all changed', you know. People around here are right up their own @rses about east Dulwich aren't they ?
  13. Dully I think you're trying to pick an argument somehow, anyhow. If you're of mixed race or any race or white you don't have more knowledge than anybody else just by virtue of that. It's churlish to imply that you do. There's no-one here in favour of slavery or anything like it, dig as deep as you might you won't find it IMO. It's easy to imply people are racist (which is what you're doing, and you are insulting people by doing so) but there is zero evidence. I don't believe you. I had a golliwog until I was 10 or so, it was only recently, as an adult, that I even realised there was allegedly any connection with folks of African descent. It never played 'the slave' to my white action men on a meccano gallows, the thought is ridiculous and, as somebody has outlined earlier, out of context. *Rushes off to quickly patent the term 'Gollyhonky' *
  14. I wonder if there is a market for / would be a protest against a Gollyhonky. Obviously the slave dimension wouldn't be relevant, but as a new toy market line.
  15. Agree with MP, he came across as very genuine and decent moral base.
  16. DJKQ I think it was beyond the Govts abilities to finance a complete restructure of Industries across the North, so "get on your bike", though harsh, had an element of reality about it. I experienced a similar journey as you to London from home, though from IOW, after losing work 3 times in a year. In the unemployed folks' hostel I lived before leaving IOW which I shared with skins and punks who HATED Thatcher/Tory, there was vehement anger at the state of things, but I knew and didn't expect jobs to be brought to me so I went to where they were. That's real life isn't it - surely ?
  17. DJKQ - I don't have a view as to how many people bought cheap council property as tenants, I just know it was a 'lot', so you can't say my term is incorrect because I haven't quantified it ! The policy was obviously rubbish, that's not my point. My point is there are a lot of people who made decent money directly as a result of 'Thatcher' (her Govt's policies), having never earned and saved for it. I speak as someone, previously slightly bitter about it, who has worked his balls off since day 1 with no handouts, watching many relatives with zero drive and ambition fill-up due to such policies, while I worked 3 years 40 hours a week while at Uni. I'm glad I did what I did, but if I'd benefitted to the tune of 10's of ?1000's I would not be resenting Lady Thatcher's demise. So, I'm saying a lot of people benefitted and shouldn't have cause to celebrate her death ! One thing about Thatcher I admired though - you could never say to her 'grow a pair' (both metaphorically and literally), which is more than can be said for PM's since.
  18. Didn't a lot of 'poorer' people benefit greatly under Thatcher by being able to purchase their Council flats well below market rates then sold them making huge profits or retained them and now sit on huge equity ?
  19. Yeah the UK politicians of recent times really put her to shame don't they, show her how it's done, like.
  20. For my dinner, the guests mentioned after Stephen are greeted and seated first, then Stephen arrives unnanounced. He will see the shock in the face of his killers across the table and see in their eyes the guilt for his murder. I'd like to hear his questions and their replies. I'd like to see their disposition and hear any attempts at justification they utter, before all falls silent under the stare of Stephen.
  21. Stephen Lawrence (unannounced), David Norris, Jamie Acourt, Neil Acourt, Gary Dobson, Luke Knight.
  22. Katie, that'll be the aliens which abducted you and scrubbed your mind clean. That's why you can't remember any of the whole terrible and traumatic experience. Which is probably a good thing in the long run.
  23. Any gibbet should be at Dawson's Heights, up a hill, a good view to die for, won't cause traffic congestion. Any heads on spikes / quarters of those executed can be exhibited along the roadside to/from Dawsons'.
  24. God is fake.
  25. Two Sisters Tandoori, Nunhead. Doubt you'll be dissapointed.
