No, Keep Calm and Carry On. You will have successes too. They will balance the tough times. It's not an intellectual thing, DIY. Just some perseverance. Only experience of doing it will teach you.

Don't bang valves unless absolute last resort and you're set-up to deal with leaks that may result (at main pressure). You won't be able to turn off the water from the street unless you have a stopcock key (assuming it's not a modern house which sounds the case given the flat conversion you mentioned) or a ratchet set from a car with long spacer.

Chain Gangs: A Viable Alternative?
KidKruger replied to Scribe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A chain of working prisoners, shackled together would have to work on collective tasks that they can do while all chained in a line, without obstructing passers by or endangering them. The 'gang' would require policing, probably by a number of guards and the risk of snatches by prisoners' ex-colleagues would need to be considered. I think a more rural-based application could work. Digging ditches, repairing fencing and painting walls. What with all the human rights rules and regs it's an unlikely proposition though TBH. -

How do you measure uncertainty?
KidKruger replied to Lying Toad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think that Infinity, by definition, IS a measurement, though not one that has a set numemical value but more a property or behaviour that is defined. ie. never ending and therefore perpetual, a bit like mathematical limits where you don't get an exact number as the answer but a 'tendency' towards a sepcific (range of) number(s). -

Virginmedia broadband issues (in East Dulwich)
KidKruger replied to benjaminty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had intermittent broadband service since starting this thread, no discernible pattern. Luckliny my neighbout has given me his WiFi password and said he won't change it, so switch to his when I need to, but this seems obtuse given that VIRGIN are recieving 100% of my subscription and that neighbour receives nothing for approx 30% of my usage. Neighbour is on Virgin too, which is even more of a wind-up. I'd love an engineer to come round but after 2x appointments where they don't turn-up and I have no comms advising me beforehand, I've lost more money from unpaid days off work than my annual virgin subscription ! Seriously couldn't invent this stuff. -
I think given that beer can be around the ?4 mark it's not cheeky or snobby at all.

alex, a mate of mine runs an experimental music event every few weeks around Shoreditch/Bethnal Green/Stoke Newington, venue varies. if you're interested PM me, his next line-up is 24 feb, he encourages (depends on) people participating and presenting their ideas. it's very interesting to the un-initiated, like me. need a bit of advice about going to India in late feb...
KidKruger replied to Philby's topic in The Lounge
philby i spent 18 months there and a few years before was a commercial photographer, so i always have a photograpic interest when there. I found India extremely easy to 'find' shots in, composition, colour, texture it's all there in spades. Let me know how you get on, I can maybe show you some shots (wait for it, slides since I used emulsion right up until recently). they may not be the best shots but if you have an eye you may be encouraged by how much material is just waiting there to be caught and stashed on your (I presume) memory card... as for getting used to the locals etc and their habits, you'll pick it up as you go along, nice people out there and very caring and generous IMO, spend some time on and with them and you'll be taken under their guidance with nothing asked in return. you'll have a great time !! -
taking the cash from your hubby when face to face and then keeping it would mean a person is identified as the culprit. sounds very odd, however up country would be more reliable as people are saying, ie. Tampere / Jvaskula. A solid bunch,, those Finns.

Parking Fine outside East Dulwich Deli
KidKruger replied to Neve's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No I think the camera is on one of the high posts by the side of the street. The photo of my car which came with my fine was taken from high up, much higher than one of those cars could manage. The angle would suggest the camera is up on a post outside the DIY store or the clothes shop which used to be Walsh's glazing. -

Got stung on same a spot a couple months ago. The fact you have to often get out of the car to read the sign correctly and can be nabbed by the camera while doing so is a bit rich. -
I've tried to deal with it 3 or 4 years ago when my little ones were being woken up mid-late evening every evening as the lads on mopeds were using the speed bump near my house as a ramp for 'jumps'. To be honest, it's difficult to deal with it face to face without them knowing where you live (they will see you outside your house at some point and that may not be in your favour). Once you've dealt with it, if at all, in another year or so there'll be another batch of lads poncing around on their first mopeds too...

oilworker, everyone knows that's famous wormhole exit point, shame on you for not doing your research. -
Sue: " was once verbally abused on a train for wearing a fake leopard fur coat. " Sue you were getting grief for not being bothered to wear REAL fur coat, for wearing a fake nylon 'impression' of the real thing, goddammit why couldn't you just wear REAL dead animals instead of pretend dead ones ? At least real dead animals have real dead souls which can float up to real animal heaven and live for real ever after.
-
I'm sure I read somewhere that it'd been proven that animals don't feel pain. So not a problem.

My Mum bought an old upright piano and having never been taught to play she got a few instruction books and starting banging away for months. Eventually she made up her own tune, using both hands, it was pretty catchy too. One day she'd been playing all afternoon, we were going to the shops and stopped briefly on the drive while she looked through her handbag for something. I heard her tune playing in the spare room at the front of the house, near where we were stood outside, I smiled because it was a good tune. Then I realised with a horrible sense of fear that my Mum was stood by me getting frustrated about not finding her purse or whatever it was. The house was unoccupied. A noisy bus went past and we walked to the shops. I didn't say anything to Mum. A few months later she mentioned the piano playing her tune back then, she said she hadn't remarked in case it scared me. I said I'd heard it too. She said she'd got p!ssed off with the darned piano doing that, it hadn't been the first time. We had a lot of weird stuff happen in that house. All the older relatives, Grandparents and Great Aunts etc, would remark whenever they first arrived, that something was 'up'. -
like I said, it takes no skill or balls to be a faceless insulter on the internet.
