  1. Does anyone know how you can check if a property has a tree with a preservation order on it? I've tried looking at Southwark's website but can't seem to find a list. Does anyone know if a list exists? Maybe I need to contact Southwark directly to ask? Any help gratefully received.
  2. I loved our borrowed bed nest, wish I'd used it from the start rather than after my daughter outgrew her Moses basket!
  3. Another Connecta lover here, particularily my solarweave. It is also very easy to switch between two wearers with no fiddling about which is good if baby's dad will be up for carrying too. I think that ergos, manducas and connectas are all brilliant carriers but fit different body shapes better so definitely get to the sling library if you can and hire one or two.
  4. My 18 month old has loved her Wow toys since she was about 8 months. She loves putting the people in and out of the various toys we have (campervan, tractor, cars etc), and especially the roundabout from the playground set. Visiting children up to about aged 10 seem to love playing with it too so I think it has good staying power over the years! We have a train set and Duplo but so far she just likes wrecking the track if I put it down or emptying out the Duplo from its box still and not doing much more with it!
  5. Ali you could try looking at Ariadna Sole's courses. She is a midwife who runs independant antenatal classes. We really enjoyed our classes and are still very good friends with our classmates (the kids are now 16 months). www.ariadnasole.com If you search her name on here lots of good testamonials will come up. And definitely go to the EDF summer babies meet ups - our Winter Babies 2012/13 group is still going strong!
  6. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice hotel within easy access of London Bridge? I'm planning a childless night away with a couple of girlfriends. Nice bed and bath a must. Otherwise we're easy on countryside or town. Just needs to be a good restaurant on site or within walking distance.
  7. I'd say Taz too, we ate there when my daughter was a few months old and I fed in there no problems. Very tasty food. Although I didn't have to change her... Pizza Express is always very baby friendly too!
  8. Just to add ours was also posterior. Good luck.
  9. We had Ann Dobson snip my daughter's at home. It took about 2 seconds on our sofa! I would use Ann again in an instant. Her tongue tie was diagnosed quite late (during our consultation with Ann), about 10 weeks, so I think it would be even easier on a newborn. We swaddled her and I held her. We got an appointment 2 days after calling and having it at home was a great bonus for me. My only regret is not calling Ann sooner as I knew something was not right with feeding despite being told otherwise by quite a few medical professionals.
  10. Sani in Greece is great. No need for a car. On the beach and a lovely Marina. Stuffed full of families when we went!
  11. There is also a Brighton line train into City Thameslink which stops at Balcombe, Haywards Heath etc I think. We will probably end up in Sussex eventually. My husband and I are both from there. Top of our lists to commute in from would probably be Haywards Heath or Horsham. I think Horsham's probably a nicer town than HH (although admittably I've not been to the later in many years). I went to school nearby. Lindfield's always been a pretty village but you probably get more for your money elsewhere. If you're not going to be commuting in then I'd live nearer Petworth which I think is lovely.
  12. We started using PAYE for nannies a couple of months ago after recommendations on here and I'm happy with their service so far.
  13. A sling is the best thing we take travelling. My 10 month old slept for nearly the whole flight on an 7pm 4 hour flight last autumn. Saves your arms getting sore and means you can read/eat/have a drink (or even a wee if desparate!) without disturbing them too much if they do nod off!
  14. I love my Bee. V light compared to other buggies \i've tried. I've always lifted it via the frame on and off trains and buses (even now my daughter is 14 months) so that's an option if you're worried about the wheels slipping. I'm 5 7 and don't have any problems with the height as the handle extends quite far up. Likewise my husband who's nearly 6 foot. I love that the handles easily shorten when you're trying to save space on the bus/in restaurants/when storing at home.
  15. I grew up in Crawley and Tilgate Park was great even back when I was a child so I imagine it's still pretty good now. Lots of woods and animals and a lake with ducks I think. Lovely day for it!
  16. I agree with Pickle that there definitely needs to be more training as well as checking the babies for tongue tie - I was told by three different midwives at King's that my daughter didn't have a tongue tie (which was eventually diagnosed at 8 weeks).
  17. A friend recommended PoxClin Cool Mousse to me when my daughter had chicken pox recently. http://www.boots.com/en/PoxClin-CoolMousse_120395/ She wasn't very itchy but I found this was absorbed very quickly and was WAY easier to apply than calamine! You should be fine going away, your toddler is no longer infectious after the last blister has scabbed over and that's usually 5-7 days after the spots first appear.
  18. Penguin, that story is true (my late step-father-in-law wrote George Brown's Biography and had the story on good authority!).
  19. We went to Sani as our pre-baby last holiday not realising how popular with families it was! But it was lovely and we will definitely go back when our little one is older. Very child friendly. There is a "dine around" option so you can eat in any of the restaurants at the 4 hotels for a good variety. There is a beach club and all the hotels are near the beach. The only thing I don't know is whether it's near a town or not. Certainly not in walking distance I don't think (although I could be wrong, we didn't look into walking far as I was 5 months pregnant!).
  20. The playroom in The Victoria yesterday was pretty roasting!
  21. 8 or 388 from Shoreditch to Bethnal Green tube statiob stop. It's about 5-10 mins.
  22. Can anyone recommend a good company for a Nanny to use to take out insurance (as employee rather than employer)? If anyone could also give me a rough indication of annual cost then that would be very helpful. Thank you in advance for any responses.
  23. Thanks all for your posts. I've actually left this a while and my daughter is 11 months! My wish/need for a debrief is more to understand the problems that I had in case they affect/would recur in a future pregnancy as I ended up with an EMCS at 37 weeks due to as yet (to me) heavy unexplained bleeding one evening. At the time the doctor said they would explain after the birth but it never happened...
  24. Has anyone had a labour debrief at King's? If so, could you please tell me who you called to arrange it? I had heard the maternity helpline was the number to call but wanted to double check before bothering them. Thanks for any input.
  25. We love Baby Sensory too! We've been going for about 4 months and it's a great class. The babies LOVE Chee who runs it. Something about her entirely captivates them. It was the only pay class we went to for ages but I think it is worth the money.
