  1. I think that they are fab, especially the monkey in the tree. Good luck!! And keep us posted on developments. I am sure that lots of people would be interested.
  2. I second some of those above: Damages - the best we think! Dexter The Good Wife (very easy viewing) Game of Thrones Also Band of Brothers was amazing and Battlestar Galactica - don't be put off my the war/sci fi themes!
  3. Has he tried reading Allan Carr's book on giving up smoking? I found it a bit patronising but it definitely helped me go from 20 a day for 10 years to having none without any bad side effects/mood swings or replacement therapies. It was like a shift in thinking, which was pretty peculiar but also effective. Worth a go!
  4. I did this owl cake a few years ago (for my husband's 37th!) http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/630255 It was the first cake I'd ever made and came out pretty well so I am assuming it's foolproof!
  5. I had the Battersea Dog collectors as well and and soon as I declined on the basis that I give to the Dog's Trust they said no problem, to have a look at the website if I ever changed my mind who to support and various similar things so they came across as fairly genuine to me, if a bit pushy initially, but then i find all doorstep chuggers like that!
  6. We're on Pellatt Road. Have been here 4 years and absolutely love it. Far enough away from the main part of Lordship Lane to never have any parking issues and close enough to be there in a few minutes. It's also an easy walk to Herne Hill station which is good if you fancy an alternative route into town. And the Mag is great!
  7. Alan Carr worked for me. 14 months and counting.
  8. If so, someone has put him on top of a car outside the Mag. He looks a bit forlorn, I hope his owner finds him soon!
  9. And now on Walworth Road. Choose another way home folks, not sure any buses will get down there for a while.
  10. My husband was just on a bus on the walworth road which got caught with the police on one side of it and looters on the other. The bus kicked everyone off and the looters kindly let the passangers walk back towards elephant. Choose another way home folks, not sure any buses will get down there for a while.
  11. I had a refresher lesson with Michael having not driving for 10 years. He was very calm and lovely and gave me lots of confidence as I was pretty nervous after such a long break. I think he'd be good with beginners too!
  12. I intend to e-mail KFH tomorrow having come home to find one of their leaflets half way through my letter box. There's an address on the covering letter so I will be suggesting that they brief their leafletters on safety measures if they insist on such employing such annoying marketing techniques. Perhaps if they're indundated by complaints they might at least address this part of the issue...
  13. I have just come back from chamonix for the first time, not much snow, lessons are essential and do do not go up the mountain slopes via cable car until you are a proficient skier and you are absolutley sure you do not have a fear of heights......which i discovered.....
  14. Change the channel. America's Next Top Model is on...
  15. There is a room upstairs at the Mag that gets hired out for a lot of functions.
  16. Savvygirl, it's not just Saga - we had our renewal quote from Halifax a few weeks ago which was for about the same as your new quote and last year we paid about ?700 too. I thought it might have been because we had claimed on the insurance but still thought it was taking the piss. I looked at Go Compare and ended up with exactly the same coverage from Esure for ?300 for buildings and contents!! So Halifax did me a favour really. I am sure the insurance companies are trying to benefit from the fact that some people will not read the renewal notices and then get tied in at a higher premium. Try E-sure for a quote!
  17. All seem to be doing fine. I am on a 40 heading into town and a 176 and 185 stopped at the police station stop whilst I was waiting.
  18. we're going to beauty and the beast in catford.
  19. My husband walked past and saw a cyclist and an elderly person lying in the road but it wasn't clear what had happened. I hope they are both okay. They were being attended to so fingers crossed things aren't as bad as they looked.

That's not something that had even crossed my mind! But very important so thanks for flagging. Now, if anyone has any suggestions of a good small 4 door car, do say...!
  21. Many thanks for all of your comments ladies and gents. I think it sounds best to be investing in a 4 door!
  22. I would be grateful for any views people have on whether 2 door cars are a massive pain with a baby and a car seat. I'm looking to buy a new car and would prefer a small 2 door (as I've not driven for 10 years!) but the liklihood is that I might need to fit a baby seat in the next year or so, in which case would I be better off getting a four door? Grateful for any replies. If 2 doors are not a pain then I'd also be really grateful for car make suggestions as I have no preference really (although I have always had a thing for Minis...) Thanks!
  23. Ah, I hadn't realised that was what you meant, sorry. Then true, there is only one lot of SDLT paid when the company first buys the property.
  24. Fliss, I share your pain - I was also on a long and tedious bus journey from High Holborn to ED about the same time as you although got to the Mag at 7pm so it sounds like I was lucky!

That really makes me mad as the stamp > duty requried to move in London often eats up the > savings people have put aside to use towards the > move! I am not sure that this is correct - it is my understanding that Stamp Duty Land Tax applies to all UK property, regardless of the residence of the purchaser so it is payable by offshore companies, trusts and individuals just like any other purchaser. And of course the rate is going up to 5% for residential properties over ?1m from 6 April 2011. It may be true that some purchasers try to avoid it via SDLT schemes although the majority of these are ineffective nowadays due to the increased anti-avoidance legislation.
