  2. A nickname coined when one of my friends went through a phase of renaming everyone he knew XXXXers as in Matters, Bradders etc. Although mine seems to be the only one which is still used 8 years on. Son in itself being a diminutive of Sonya. Not too exciting.
  3. And if so, do you know the name of the first of the 7 inch records that was played...? It was fab.
  4. Opposite the police station, end of Melbourne Grove. We have had very tasty duck & pancakes from there and would definitely have it again. Although I have heard rumours that the special ovens used to cook that sort of duck are going to be banned so may not be able to...
  5. They were serving food on Saturday and also served roasts yesterday. We tried the beef and lamb roasts and both were very tasty as was a raspberry-mousse-whisky dessert (not sure what its formal name was) which we had to finish.
  6. We bought some "Get off my garden" on the advice of the Fox Project to try and get rid of the foxes under our decking. After numerous applications they went away for a little bit but are now back (despite more applications) so I'm not sure how useful it is. They have at least stopped digging all of our veg and plants up now although the use of a cold frame and mini-greenhouse have played a big part in this. When they were cubs they dug up all of our seeds but seem to leave bigger plants alone. Or maybe they've just outgrown that particular game. We saw a fox sat on a fence down Pellatt Road last night on our way home. Couldn't work out whether it was ours or not though.
  7. I heard a review of one on the radio last week and the girl said that there aren't chapters on the e-book as in a normal book which would make the practice of "I'll just read to the end of this chapter and then go and do..." impossible which I think is a massive disadvantage. I also agree with those above who love having a house stuffed full of books!

  9. Didn't the pub quiz man from the Mag move to the Herne? I could be wrong but it might be worth checking if you liked it...
  10. The Magus - John Fowles Anything by Ian Banks or Terry Pratchett or in the Artemis Fowl series - it seems that I have some similar tastes to other EDFers...

  12. Having been following the above I was wondering when we would be done and my husband got a call from Lloyds this morning and the Canadians are at it again. Only place we've used the joint card recently is Somerfield although I agree with Wino that if the operation is sophisticated enough it doesn't necessarily mean that that is where the card was cloned.

And you accuse me of stereotyping????? I was quoting from experience - is it stereotyping when it is true?
  14. NatashaD Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Gay bars are about as inclusive as white only or > black only bars. I am not sure that that is entirely true - I have had many a good night in Bar Coda and Fire in Vauxhall with my gay friends and not been made to feel like I'm not welcome by anyone. A much better night out than having drunk, sweaty heteros trying to dive in for an unwanted snog like in a lot of straight clubs IMHO. >Plus I don't want to be looking at men with bulging biceps, extremely tight T-shirts, shaven heads, not to mention the mincing walk, in my neck of the woods. And this is a horrendous stereotype. None of my aforementioned gay friends look anything like this. They are well dressed, with hair, normal walks and are exceedingly beautiful.

  16. But will it be one of those name changes where you just call it by its old name regardless of what its new one is? Our local at work is still referred to its original name (for those of us old enough to remember) and it is now on its third appellation...

  18. Quite a few of the "charity" leaflets which come through our door turn out to be companies when I check them against the Charities Commission database. Straight in the bin with those ones...
  19. I am happy to be corrected on my terminology - my point was that the new people have said that it will be somewhere between a gastropub and what the Mag was.
  20. I heard last night from someone who had spoken to the lady who owns Grace and Favour that:- 1. Yes, they have bought it; 2. The pizzas are 99% certain to remain; 3. It is going to remain a proper pub; not gastro like The Palmerston but less spit and sawdust than the Mag's last incarnation. Hurray for point 3!!

I had initially assumed that it was some sort of e-mail address link but as I use different e-mail addresses for on here and on facebook I am very confused...
  22. The world is full of possibilities.
  23. I much preferred the yellow than any of the boring grey testers they have put on. And it was always handy to be able to say to a cabbie,"left by the yellow pub please". Sigh.
  24. Well we asked when the Mag was shutting and the guy said effectively this weekend. Not sure which day that means but I have now sadly had my last pint in the Mag. :'( Guess I will be moving onto the CPT...
  25. My husband and I were chatting to one of the bar staff in the Mag last night and apparently it is being turned into a wine bar (*shudders*). Although the pizzas are to be kept, which is one plus.
