"Ok I'm near Honor Oak" and then yet another person says they have mobile/broadband/landlines issues. so I moved it.

Trip Advisor has a team of 300 people and an algorithm which track fake posts, complaints, blackmailing etc and we don't have that manpower. Tell the trader to send me a PM, I'll ban the user, remove all their posts, shame them and help the trader if they need to push charges. The forum is not to be used as a blackmailing negotiation tool. It's the odd 1 or 2 people (out of the 52,000 registered users) who try it on and threatening local businesses with derogatory forum posts to get freebies is not on.

You're ok to post in the Lounge, please don't over do it by repeatedly posting and your old one has been reinstated: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1387770,1387770#msg-1387770

dds29 - sorted Hi Jenny, what does that mean?

Hi lilly123 Yes I did get a message from you but I also got a message from someone else accusing you of bullying. Sorry I didn't get back to you but I'll handle it from here. And you are correct, businesses are not allowed to advertise in the for sale section so please flag them up to me, a PM will do.

If you cycle in London, this should be of interest
Administrator replied to Medley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know this isn't strictly East Dulwich but there's a lot of cyclists on the forum so this will stay in the General ED issues section. And if it turns into a "bloody cyclists think they own the pavements" vs "damn car drivers pay for this with their road taxes" type argument again I'm going to Lounge it promptly. -
Whilst logged in go the main page http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?4 and click on "reset new posts" against each section. This will reset the count of how many messages are new to you. The reason: Every time you visit the forum it looks to see if there are new messages for you. There are about 1.4 million messages and it has to look at the new ones, count them and show you the number or put 'new' next to the messages. There's about 50,000 users on the forum and so this takes time and effort, for the geeks out there there's 16 millions rows in the new_messages_table. We've also cleaned out lots of old messages and managed to reduce the database from 15Gb to 6 Gb which should speed it up a bit too, which is nice.

Jeli Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Let me ask you - did you advise Xeres that his > posts had breached the rules before deleting his > entire posting history? You still don't get it do you? The rules say "- Do not continually post messages to get your item for sale back to the top of the list blah, blah, blah, Excessive still-for-sale posters will have all their messages deleted without warning. " That means that no, I did not warn Xeres. There's about 53,000 users on this forum and about 2,000 posts a day. We do not have time to tell people off for breaking the rules that they should have read. Yes I can be a bit harsh sometimes but we've better things to do than go around warning people. Put it in perspective; lots of old for sale posts have been deleted and a few new one were deleted. Xeres is going to have to go to a bit more effort to make some cash, and it seems they've put some adverts back up already. And it's not about the FS in the title, catch up. And when you've finished your rant about power please grow up. We've run this forum for 8 years now; seen births and marriages caused by the forum, had run ins with police, racists and angry mums. We've had numerous legal threats, some current, helped authorities catch criminals and supplied evidence to courts. There's been about 1.5 million posts, had the server collapse under the strain and we have volunteers moderating it. We run it fairly and successfully, yes we make mistakes and are open to admit them but I do get annoyed when someone who has purely made money from the forum by selling things, and has never contributed to the community side of things, says they hope I feel good for causing upset to someone whose posts I deleted. Grrr. And the fact Jeli and Xeres are posting from the same computer does make this seem like some sort of "oh darling they mustn't treat you like that, let me have a go at the nasty Administrator while you go and make yourself feel better by shouting abuse at some volunteers in a charity shop".

Actually it was the Bahamas ;-)

Really, why start another post about it? I deleted your posts and most i.e. 309 of them, were for sale posts and over 2 months old. There was also two recommendation requests and a recommendation from Jan 2013. You bumped your posts up with up with the reply comment of "to the top", there is a rule that says: "Do not continually post messages to get your item for sale back to the top of the list ... Excessive "still for sale" posters will have all their messages deleted without warning." You bumped your messages "to the top" excessively, therefore you had all your messages deleted without warning.

More discussion on this point here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1383994 Anyway, my wife just left me and headed off to the Caribbean.

Hey, I did not delete your messages because you put FS in the title. I deleted your messages because you were bumping up your messages, continuously. I just get annoyed that people break the simple rules. Does it really matter that all your old for sale posts have been deleted? There were a couple of requests for recommendations but all the rest were you selling things, it's not like I deleted swathes of "community actively engaging with you". You'll not be banned, and this thread will stay up, it makes good discussion and I learn from them, as can others. And Jeli,if you were someone who followed the rules then I would take your comments on board, but I notice you're a prolific bumper upper of your posts http://bit.ly/1qRkvNt and you like writing for sale in capitals. Please stop it of go and sell your stuff somewhere else.
-
Why do you put "FS:" in front of your new posts? It's the For Sale section and it's meant to be a fair and level playing field but again you're trying to promote yours above other peoples'. Stop it. I'm going to amend the titles.
-
Sorry but they've all been deleted.
-
You posted masses of "to the top", bumping up messages. I deleted them all.

Hi Yes we have but there's not enough call for it in the East Dulwich area, businesses tend to place job ads in the business section.
-
Go to the business section http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/list.php?30 and search for the contractor. If there's a post about him add a message to it, if not then please start one. If this person's a decent web site designer who could really benefit the forum then please PM me.

House prices start to fall
Administrator replied to eastdulwichproperty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Obviously I'm removing libelous comments when I'm made aware of them. Apologies if it breaks the flow of the thread. -
I wish we could, it was a bit of custom code and after we installed a software upgrade it broke the site, all the pages were blank. I made the call that people would rather see the site and put up with some people rather than not see the site at all. Apologies, I know it is a missed function but I can't see it coming back in the near future.

"my commentry[sic] in regards to the strikes recently is prehaps[sic] what has caused this" Nope. It's your posts about Dulwich Village.
