  1. I have just checked and they're on different ISPs but we will continue to monitor any reports of downtime.
  2. OK, I believed wrong.
  3. Hi I believe it was because it was too similar to the "offering to do shopping trips for elderly/people unable to go" thread. Also it was not East Dulwich specific, we do get a few other generic public service announcements e.g. Save energy, help the homeless etc and they are in the Lounge. It is a grey area sometimes and apologies if you feel it was an incorrect decision but as I say there was already a thread discussing helping the elderly in East Dulwich in the ED Issues section it was moved to the Lounge.
  4. All fixed. It seems that when we did a backup the other day we accidentally left the (2Gb) file on the server which meant it was virtually full. Unfortunately we don't have the skills in house to create and run a purge script, but we will be upgrading the software soon, the newer version of the software has better space-saving cache-clearing facilities which should stop things like this happening. Thank you for letting us know about this problem by the way, we don't know about some issues until we're told.
  5. Sorry, we don't know what happened there, it seems the 'hide messages' button mysteriously applied itself to a few messages. I may have pressed it whilst hovering under the desk or something like that.
  6. None of the team here are finding it slower but as some of you are we will continue to monitor it. It maybe linked to the updates performed the other day so we will be keeping a beady eye on the server.
  7. I will ask that you didn't expose the details, anyone can read this forum at any time, we can't have a 9 o'clock watershed so please do not go into details. May I suggest you PM the details to those who have asked to hear more.
  8. Most people don't give a damn and so in this case I thought a "performing some routine upgrading work" would suffice as an explaination. But in the spirit of Glasnost there were 261 software packages that needed updating on the server, during the upgrade process the server connection was lost, intermittently. After some some trial and error investigation we had to restart the network daemons on the server and it was able to be seen again. Should you still be awake and interested we had to manually connect to the server and run /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart, that did the trick. We suspect there was run time error or a connection error that caused the problems.
  9. I do tend to tell people usually but most of them don't give a damn, in this case I thought a "performing some routine upgrading work" would suffice. But in the spirit of Glasnost there were 261 software packages that needed updating on the server in order for it to be resilient and efficient. During the upgrade process the server connection was lost, intermittently. Only 120 packages were upgraded last night so we will endeavour to upgrade the rest soon.
  10. Woke up this morning to see the forum was up and running = :-S ::o :) :))
  11. A new rule has been introduced because this has been brought up before and a cafe has been requested not to post too often.
  12. Really sorry about that, I can tell you there was a really scary moment when I though all was lost, I even thought about praying, but there was no need and so all is good now.
  13. Last night from 9pm we were performing some routine upgrading work on the forum's server and it took a bit longer than expected. It should have taken an hour but due to an admittedly nerve-racking glitch it took four hours, so sorry that the forum was unavailable for all that time. Fortunately the issue has been resolved and we're back up as normal. Have a lovely Friday.
  14. There is no sign that this is a fake recommendation, so please be careful about stating that it is. It could of course be a ploy by a worried, competitor Estate Agent.
  15. I have seen it now, I will reply to your PM Sarah
  16. nashoi, we will update the rules post and Help & FAQs soon to include the pointers for doing that. Tarot, we're looking into the veering right issue this week, it would be handy if you could go to http://supportdetails.com/ and submit your details to [email protected] (when using the PC which the EDF veers right upon).

  18. Post removed on request
  19. Yes you could say that Nunhead is on the periphery of East Dulwich however there is a Nunhead forum which covers that area. Sharon, if you live in East Dulwich and want to promote your husband's business please do, just follow the rules but mention you are East Dulwich residents.
  20. Hi Sharon, I would say they are all just on the periphery of East Dulwich. The boundary is a casual affair, it is a fuzzy borderline and there will be some inconsistencies, especially as this is a voluntarily run forum. We don't have the resources to create a defined line and then monitor each and every post to see that they are within those boundaries, oh just think of the workload! Edited to add: Just to help put it in perspective we get 4,000 people a day on the forum and about 600 messages posted per day, there is no way we can monitor each and every one.
  21. Cate, it is the "East Dulwich" forum. It is the Residential Property in "Easy Dulwich" section. We remove posts about Brixton, Herne Hill, Brockley, Kent etc all the time from various parts of the forum (especially the business section) and we do not have time to tell all those people to read the title of the forum/section. The guy believed he was singled out, he was not. When he asked for an explanation he got one. As a frequent user of the forum, would you be willing to volunteer your time to contact every person and company whose post we remove? We would supply you with their username and their message and you could PM each of them on our behalf, we would be very grateful and I think they would be too.
  22. Gary/hadenuff/dulwichflower/pubcrawler I will repeat my request publicly: Do not post on the forum again. Your account has been disabled again. You obviously have issues with the forum and it would be better for you to leave it alone. A red warning light goes off here in the office when dealing with certain users and it's goes off when you're around. Therefore any further postings on, or interaction with, the forum will be see as abuse and you will reported to your internet provider.
  23. As I explained to you "We deal with lots of emails everyday, so we send emails that are succinct and to the point". I am sorry that my explanation was not enough for you. I'm must also apologise that it wasn't soft enough for you. And so, with hindsight, boy do I wish I had been more expansive and a tad softer.
  24. I too would have been sympathetic to his cause, most people just say "sorry, I didn't realise, do you mind.." and I usually say it's fine. But not with this one, he was straight in there with the "you're so precious" this, "I've been singled out" that. Added: Unfortunately I do have to draw a fuzzy line around East Dulwich as the boundary for residential section.
