Ahhhhh okay, so not really what we're after. Thanks for the info!

Hi there, Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm getting quite confused :) My child is almost 3 and at a private nursery, 5 days a week. So what is a "Nursery School"? The primary closest to us (Edmund Waller) seems to have a "nursery school" which I'm guessing is for kids under 5, but I can't find much information about it online. I'm just wondering if it is an option for the year before he starts school? It would be much closer to home, and maybe cheaper?

Future Thameslink service from Peckham Rye
antantant replied to jj2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I work in Farringdon and now get the 63 bus from Peckham rather than the Thameslink Train. I just can't guarantee that I'll get on the train, even though it is faster when works properly. I still get the train home though - it's pretty empty at Farringdon and runs fairly close to schedule at the start. As I have a child to pick up at nursery I can't rely on the bus as it takes longer and the timings are too tight. -

How do people manage financially...
antantant replied to sophie_e_down's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Firstly, congratulations! However, my thoughts are that you're going to be shattered if you condense your hours to 4 days a week. It would probably also mean that you wouldn't be able to help with any drop offs or pick ups for which ever child care option you choose (assuming it would mean at least 4X10 hour days plus travel). Could it make more sense for your partner to commit to 2 or 3 days of childcare per week? This could reduce your childcare costs considerably. We're in a similar boat - all our family is overseas, and we manage with kiddo in nursery which is about ?220 a week, and really looking forward to when he turns 3 and we get the free 15 hours. (Only during term time, if I remember correctly). -

Maybe the new "policy" about the 2m yellow lines either side is actually a way to ensure that dropped kerb applications will not be successful? The argument against them becomes a lot more powerful.

What are people's experiences with using zipcar locally ?
antantant replied to clare's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Massive Zipcar fan. As mentioned above, check out a separate annual insurance excess reduction policy like icarinsurance.com or similar and look for the car club cover option. -
Sounds fantastic!

Interesting. Queens Road Peckham to get gates too.

Child friendly pub/restaurant near Borough?
antantant replied to ACBP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I know I'm late, but we often go to the Roebuck with kids for Sunday lunch, if you're looking for something a bit more pubby around there. http://www.theroebuck.net/ -
Ideas for stop-over on way to Aus?
antantant replied to Bonfire2010's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You could fly Asiana or Korean air and spend some time in Seoul / Korea. Flights are usually good value too - and the make a big deal of the kids. Been to Dubai a few times on the way home to Aus and it's totally not my thing, so now avoid it. -
I forgot to say... I know it sounds like the wrong reason on which to base a decision on, but a big factor for us was nursery opening time. Many of the nurseries only open at 8 which is simply too late for me to get to work after drop off. Depending on your circumstances it may be something you need to consider too.

Hi there, I found the most useful thing the complete list of nurseries available on the southwark website, here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/3272/nurseries Then you can compare locations with ratings with opening times, see what works best for you and go check them out in person. Good luck!

They have plain clothed cops on the platforms / top of stairs watching for people who turn around. -

Ahhh brilliant, because we all know that those big time in the drug game catch trains to get around. -
I walk through there every day and while I totally agree that the tumbleweave and mess is awful, I really don't mind the kids at all. I quite like the sound of kids having fun after a hard day. They always seem to move out of the way a bit for me. Anyway, they're kids! I still remember being one. Doesn't mean I can't wait for the station area to be re-developed though.

You're right, I'm a muppet. For some reason I've always thought they weren't. I've always thought it a complete tfl con that buses don't contribute to the daily oyster cap. It looks like this is changing for Sept 16 which is good
